  • The Lucky Horseshoe is something that everyone has seen at some point and somewhere. It has got to be our most prolific Pagan Amulet. In fact we hardly notice it these days. So what are the Origins of the Lucky Horseshoe? What customs and traditions are associated with them? And how and why is Magic connected to Horses, Horse Brasses, and Horseshoes?

    Beautiful and simple spell. My family has always seen the horse as a lunar creature. In our tradition we use both the moon bowl (legs up) and moon gate (legs down) positions, but for different reasons. The moon bowl position is for fortune/luck and is hung over doorways. Traditionally this would've been the vōrdö (caravan) door, but now it's in the home. Also we used to only hang one cause there used to only be one door going in and out, but now with homes one is hung over every door leading outside to make sure you always receive the blessings. The moon gate position is strictly used in marking spiritual spaces. Traditionally this would've only been the Hrām (a woodland or forest temple), but in these modern times has also been used to mark a sacred space/altar room/etc.

    This was a really interesting video, thanks for showing this spell. I have many horseshoes around my house, and one over the front door. I remember we had horse brasses by the side of the fireplace when I was a child, but I don’t know where they went after my mum died - I really wish I had kept them now. The more I think about my mum’s sayings and superstitions, I feel she (or maybe her mother) followed the old ways. I look forward to your next video! 😊

      That's sweet. Maybe she was just one of those natural witches.. I call them weather witches... just women in tune with the natural, even supernatural world. Then again it could be ancestry, heredity.. I like that thought too.. means it can be generations back but you may still have inherited something. Aye my grandma and Grandad had lots of horse brasses.. maybe that's where I picked up the liking for them. I started really when I had a Van called Horse.. my home made camper.. it needed some brasses to protect it.. so after that I carried on collecting them. They are so cheap, and whenever I see some I have a rummage.

      @@TheWitchInTheWoods yes, she definitely had strange intuition … she said she very often would smell soot in the house when someone had died - this happened when my grandad (on my dad’s side) passed away. He wasn’t living near us at the time - and shortly after she smelled the soot, she received a phone call to say he’d died. Have you ever heard of this type of thing before?

    • @TheWitchInTheWoods
      @TheWitchInTheWoods  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@willowgrove631 Smelling soot? wow, not that particular quirk, no. But yes similar kind of things that are psychic and intuitive, like sensing when someone had just died. The scots called people seers if they had that kind of ability. Women were often strong seers.

    Hi, Interesting one again, what do you do with the ingredients in the bag, just save them? i guess if you can get the original nails from the or a horseshoe it would be better for the spell or am I being pedantic 😁, my Gran all ways had one above her back door with 3 original nails I remember her telling me, but she wasn't into the old ways as far as I know, probably superstition passed down to her from her family😁 and why 3 do you know

    • @Gosidnhan
      @Gosidnhan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      just only 1 original nail.... and only one. She's done wrong!!!!

    • @TheWitchInTheWoods
      @TheWitchInTheWoods  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had some sent when I bought my horseshoe, and they were proper blacksmith's nails for shoeing horses.. but I only got sent two. I think those are the iron nails you are lucky to use.. but nothing is set in stone is it.. and it's more the intention you do something with. Yeah, a lot of people wouldn't consider it a pagan protection charm.. but old country folk often do it as it's just been tradition for them

    • @TheWitchInTheWoods

      Oh yeah.. the bag is just a keepsake.. a lucky charm to symbolically help with finances or plenty and prosperity. Mine is currently on the Hearth.. a magical spot in the home.. but it might not stay there as it'll get quite sooty

      @@TheWitchInTheWoods I have 42 horseshoes with original nails in them trying to get the strongest spells for them. You did what you wanted; I do what I've learned from the States.... I meant no harm ok...but the right way is just only one nail to kill the devil by St. Dunstan!!!
