    CAn a rural hitch can be used for a front mount pump on a fire truck

      Yes. Pump setup, whether front mount, side mount, top mount or rear mount, doesn't matter so long as you can get the hose connected to the pump.

    I reaaly like the idea ... However we are too rural, second due tender is half an hour out and we lack large diameter discharges.

    • @ffjsb
      @ffjsb 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      All you need for a LDH discharge is an adapter from 2 1/2" to either 4 or 5". The topmost discharge on the officer's side pump panel typically has the shortest and straightest discharge piping, and there is minimal friction loss when pumping large volumes of water. There should be no problem pumping into LDH from this outlet.
      I prefer using the first pumper as a "nurse" tanker, that way one engine controls the flow and pressure. But there are several different ways you can run this as the needs dictate.

    Just a comment , I see your Tender has a fold-a-tank mounted to it. So instead of nurse feeding the first due and putting a tender out of service, drop the Fold-a-tank at the intersection, dump your water load into the fold-a tank and get that tender going for more water . Your second due engine has a preconnected front suction ready to deploy into the Fold-a-tank. That pumper makes the supply 4 inch to the first due and starts a draft to feed first due. ( assuming this apparatus is what you except on each fire) unless when you arrive at the fire building and the fire flow calculation is small Nursing an engine is O.K. But I would not nurse a engine with a tender. I been on a fire where three engines where fed by three tenders and those tenders became land locked by late responding vehicles. Basement is still standing..... also this all can be done with 2 1/2 hose if you lack LDH , BUT, I am happy to see you do have a preplan!

      Yes I know what you talking about been on scene where we have done that 5in to the tanker were they drop the tank and have the next due drop water as that tank is nurse feed the engine

    • @jaymesc.moreland9265
      @jaymesc.moreland9265 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It also depends on apparatus availability and situation. There may not be a second engine immediately available to draft from a dump tank and supply the attack engine. It may just be the attack engine and tender. The tender and second engine may be both in the tender role. Its kind of situational. With the 2nd engine drafting the dump tank plus the tender shuttling you have more on-scene storage capacity but with the tender and 2nd engine both shuttling you can move water quicker. Terrain also plays a factor. We often do not have the room for dump tanks due to narrow roads and extended driveways. But, we've also dropped the tank at the attack engine and nursed the dump tank from supply lines ran back to the tenders as a kind of half and half setup.

    We do this using a clapper valve, not a gated wye, preconnected.

    • @ffjsb
      @ffjsb 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That works too, but I don't see many clapper valves in use around the midwest.

      keep in mind a truck companie is already doing search and there is probably an engine begining fire attack on tank water.

      This was a training exercise meant to show the proper procedure on doing so, some departments are slow, watch some fire videos and you will see a engine take 8 minutes to get there, get a line out and get it charged, but some departments are incredibly quick, our departments train to have a charged line ready to attack at exactly 2 minutes

      @@jakemccain9825 a training exercise I’ve watched over 100 videos of us fire service attending a house fire or structure fire for one you don’t even use a hose wheel for your ba crew and one your service stands there for a min looking at it then Finlay when the firefighters stop say dreaming they realise that the full house has been lost so actually for one 2mins is even a joke give it 5-10mins they will do something
