    Thanks for taking us along great video!! I really am going to up my game on bulbs this year since I will have new beds that aren't quite ready for perennials with the new sidewalks being done

      Have fun! Remember that you always move bulbs and replant in the future once you figure out where your perennials will go.

    We learned a great lesson and you did alll the footwork. All bulbs brought in by the same importer but priced at varying prices. I'm guessing that they were grown by various growers but farming and importing live plants are two different skill sets.

      I’d love to know more about the bulb industry. I’ve watched a documentary on the origination of tulip bulbs in the Netherlands which was cool.

    Thanks for the comparisons and varieties review. Will definitely pick up the same irises you did. I don’t have those!

    Daffodils are my favorite bulb! They’re my birth flower too. There’s so many gorgeous colors of them!

    Hello just wanted to inform you on my experience with your question about full tide iris about the color. This spring I had bought 3 different kinds of irises to symbolize, my daughter, mother, and myself and what was grown was not what was shown on the picture of the package.
    The full tide came out purple with a little bit of white where the beard is . And the dangerous mood I had also bought it is purple on the bottom not black and white on top not purple.
    On the boxes were all the bulbs are in your video I’m watching It actually shows the true colors of them in the background flowers I guess that was my sign I just didn’t look beyond the big picture … lol …. This is my first time leaving a comment and I was going to add a picture, but I am not sure if I can. Thank you for your inspirational videos. Keep up the good work.

    I bulb shopped yesterday. However, after seeing your video, I no longer feel like I'm done shopping😂.
    I had tulips that I forced inside last year and loved it, so that's a definite repeat. I've also decided to do hyacinths inside, mostly for the fragrance. I also like forcing Quince and forsythia branches inside which brings spring in faster. So far luckily my hyacinths do come back outside. I didn't find any purple sensation alliums, so I'll be on the lookout. I did find some Persian blue alliums though.
    Tulips are hit and miss but I may do the container thing. That's a better idea.
    Your bulb plan looks so cheerful, I can't wait to see how it comes together.

    My granny was my gardening flower hero. Appledorn must be an antique variety as she always grew them and she would have been over 100 years old. They grow best in a northern climate. I'm laughing so hard at the $5 per iris price. I threw away buckets of iris that I had thinned out. My iris are all from a local farmer. My favorite are the pinks but I do have a deep jet purplish black that are stunning. When purchasing new plants I love trying a new variety. Happy planting🌷

    Forgot to add/ask whether you have ever tried Colorblends? I bought some last year. Those were the largest/healthiest bulbs that I ever purchased from any retailer. Totally worth the price. Next year, I plan to buy some for gifts to my gardening friends & family.

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! I have ordered from them and been pretty happy with the exception of the hyacinth and tulips but I believe that was user error on my part.

    HD $0.63 per bulb in bulk. L $0.65 per bulb in smaller bulk. W $0.65 per bulb in small packs. TS $1.12 per bulb in small packs. TS bulk $0.57 per bulb. I’m sure W used to have a bulk pack as well but didn’t see it in the videos. Same company selling bulbs at different retailers. There maybe an impression of competition but it’s a monopoly and it seems just pick what you like the look of variety wise from either store. If buying bulk and not picky about colors then this month TS comes out a bit better on the budget. If wanting to select a bunch of variety of small packs then W seems the place.

      My math came out differently, but I agree that it is not a huge difference in price unless you are buying large quantities.

    I enjoyed the video. I bought daffodil bulbs at Costco last week $13.99 for 50 bulbs. Tulips were 25(?) for $13.99. They hade the Tahiti variety, which looked very cheerful.
    I had NO luck with crocus last year. I also had NO luck with purple sensation alliums--total bust Argh! The daffodils did well as did the Dutch iris. I tried a variety called Minnow, short and cute, in two of my smaller beds. I bought hyacinths in a pot at Lowe's. They came up, blooms opened and they flopped. When I bought a mixed container of daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths, the hyacinths also flopped. The bulb varieties bloomed at different times, which made for a disappointing show. Such is gardening life.

    Question.. I would like to fill pots with all types of bulbs.. then after blooming.. leave in pots for the next year. After bulbs bloom.. trim back.. then throw zinnia / cosmos seeds on top of soil in the pots.. How does that work when you have to water the zinnias.. don't want bulbs below to ROT. Live in Zone 8b .. Texas Hill Country.

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just make sure your pots are very well draining so that there is no standing water in the soil.

    I’m hoping to get some tulips to force inside. I cannot plant them outside because the squirrels decimate them. I’m hoping someone on this farm can give me some pointers for forcing tulips indoors. For example, do I put them in direct sunlight?

    Daffodils reliably repeated for me in New Orleans and Austin, and I expect the same performance in South Carolina. It’s great to have plants to depend on. I have less patience with fussy plants every year.
