IMO even if someone for sake of some experiment wants to try he does not need aquarium water or green water to grow algae nor algae starter is required. He just needs glass jar or plastic jar through which sunlight can pass, sunlight, water and some nutrients which we can add by way of vegetable and fruit peels for them to decay or they can simply add cow manure or some compost. That's it.

Or you need a screen on top... where the mosquitoes will choose another place... (I do not know, if they ever drop eggs thru a screen, have not heard that it's a problem.)

You may never know, without a magnifying glass... in a clear glass or jar, you can see them. you will grow bacteria and Paramecium from aquarium water... a good thing in your Green Water. -Cyclops can eat tiny fish eggs or possibly micro fry.

Bro, very good information. I am in the same position where u was in 3 years back. This green water is all matter for Daphnia culture. Without Daphnia culture there is no Betta fish 😜
Now my question is it is possible to see daphnia appearing in your bucket without having a starter culture? I am trying for that by taking few buckets filling with aged water, adding dried leaves to them and adding yeast to them. Now waiting game has begin. Set up of these is on my terrace under shade net. Please advice

Normally daphnia evolve from chicken/bird poop. Its only base on my experience
