I know not everyone can have multiple dogs, but I find having a pack helps ease separation anxiety. I've never had an issue with it due to having 2-3 dogs at all times.

When greyhounds retire that is most likely the first time they are actually alone without any other dogs and some are cool with it and some are not. We've had a few fosters that we determined must be in a house with another dog. Many times a mini pack can be all that is necessary, but as you said, not everyone can have multiples.

Thank you for all of your great videos. We have watched them all. We struggled with our retired racer who had very strong resource guarding/sleep aggression issues. We have stuck by her side for half a year and she is slowly improving. Your videos give us the confidence and strength to believe in her.... so thank you! And keep them coming!

I loved the dial tone clip! Our greyhound rescue also advised us to not fuss our grey before leaving or when we first get back. I think the aim is not to make a spectacle about leaving or returning, which hopefully makes it less of an "event" for your dog to be alone!

That is a fantastic idea about not making it such an event when leaving and returning, thank you for sharing!

More than one dog can often make a difference . When we lost Star in January, I just had Maggie (who BTW thinks dinner time is all day, since I was home 24/7 for treats).
With moving possible, I didn't want to get another dog right away. So I "borrowed" my neighbor's dog. They were both returning to work and school so Pepper would be home all day too. The have always gotten along.
I am able to come home at noon to let them out . Win/win. Pepper's a Corgi, so she "herds" Maggie, even tho Maggie out-weighs her by 50 pounds. We are all trying to lose our Covid pounds.😁

I know what you mean there! Heather and I are finding we really got out of shape over the winter.
Glad you are able to get regular play dates with the neighbor dog so Maggie won't be so lonely now that Star is gone.

Greyt to see you back. Appreciate your thoughtful video about separation issues. Although I have a Whippet, she does have separation issues. What I have been doing is regular separation sessions extending each one day by day. I also leave the radio on in the background for the company. So far, it's working really well. I did chuckle at the food stares from your greys. My dog does this also.

Glad you've found some remedies that work well for your whippet!
And yes, the food stare can be...intense.

Thank you very much! Our senior Great Dane has loved having us home 24/7 for the last year, and these tips were helpful for getting her back into our old pre-COVID routine.

With my pup I’ve had the best luck with keeping her muzzle on but otherwise giving her free roam. Thankfully no stress peeing (I couldn’t help but laugh each time you showed Wilson stress peeing 😂😅) - so far she’s only once had an accident while home alone, and that was due to a change in diet.

Thank you, I work from home normally, and my gray (Randall) is my assistant dog so as his trainer said we have ingrained a codependents in him.
I am having major surgery in 3 weeks and though as a registered Assistant Dog he is able to come in and see me I will be unable to care for him in the hospital. I have organised care for him wth people he knows well and how know him well, there is still those issues with separation anxiety.
Thank you for some ideas on lowering his stress.

I hope some of these ideas work for your grey while you are away, and I also hope everything goes well for you too during your surgery.

Have you gone back to office work? How long do you leave your dogs alone during the day? Do you need someone to come in during your working hours to give the dogs a pee break, or are they ok for 8 hrs without? Thank you! 7 months later...would still like to know.

What kind of dog beds do you have? I’m looking for a nice sturdy one.

Costco has these really good memory foam beds that our dogs love.

Can retired greyhound stay as an alone dog

    • @GreytShow
      @GreytShow  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, some are fine in their own, and some would prefer a friend. Adoption organizations would be able to determine that personality trait ahead of time before they adopt out.
