Some of us are too hip for white salt. 😁 Also, can we see our chromosomes through a light microscope with this method? I'm trying to search out my X chromosomes to confirm or rule out fragile-X.

    DNA is in those strands 🤔 HOWEVER, it is my understanding that a double helix strand of dna, which lives inside the nucleus of a cell, is ONLY 2 nanometers in diameter and the actual dna strand bundled up inside the Chromosomes could NEVER be seen with the naked eye! It cannot even be seen under very powerful electron microscopes! And even then, the closest we've gotten is to see a very fuzzy pic of an atom! The nucleus is just simply out of our reach at this point in time!! But what we do have is some very smart machine learning that will be able to come up with accurate predictions and make us some very pretty pictures to look at that are genuinely accurate in their description of what they are showing us!! 👍🏼😎👏🏼

    • @Sarnahanfi
      @Sarnahanfi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      dna can be seen with microscopes. and dna is made up uf molecules, aka multiple atoms, so its bigger than a single atom

    • @kamilia4802
      @kamilia4802 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Well As a biologist and a Chemisrty Engineer i can tell you that your reasoning is Wrong. and there is a lot of facts that you have been stating that are wrong too, First, the DNA that makes up chromosomes becomes more tightly packed during cell division (mitosis) and is then visible under a microscope, The DNA is not an atom in fact it's a very very big and complex molecule, composed of a lot of Nitrogenous base sequences (ATGC), DNA can be easily seen with the naked eye when collected from thousands of cells and this is what could appear in the video, i'm not sure wether the experience was correct but i have witnessed this before.

    1.What time is good to take the sample? Early morning, empty stomach. Hope so.
    2. How many hours of fasting is required before taking the sample so that the food doesn't interfere with the test?
    3. What is your measure of a cup? Is it 250 ml if i am not wrong?
    4. Does the detergent colour and blue colour in the rubbing alcohol pollute the dna molecules
    5. Can we pick this strand with a forcep and wash it further or will it disintegrate
    6. How to wash and preserve this dna further.
    7. If it is possible to take out this strand, can i store it in glycerine or pure alcohol or dispensing alcohol is better?

      You can use a pipette/dropper to suck up the clumped up DNA(along with the alcohol solution), and store it in an airtight, leakproof vial indefinitely. Due note, however, the actual DNA will most definitely degrade on a molecular level over time, but aesthetically it will be fine. I still have mine I extracted back in high school in a vial made into a necklace from years ago, and it’s still a white clump of DNA.
