    Every time I hike and camp somewhere here and outside of Flagstaff Arizona.. most people are freaking slobs on trash and foul language... As a avid nudist hiker and off grid tent camper... Harriman State Park would be on my bucket list... Happy trails to both of you

    The Red trail is wide originally a horse trail but go early in the winter you don't want to get hung up in the dark and trip over a rock or fall of a cliff the Yellow trail is narrower and you have to climb up on ledges and there was a rattle snake in it before you get to the Orange trail that goes up Diamond Mountain

    FYI, camping is allowed only at shelters in Harriman/Bear Mt. parks.

      Not totally correct, if you're an AT through hiker you can camp anywhere along the AT in NY.

      @@JenNYC263 If you stealth or find a nice place it's much better. I don't usually have a problem being somewhere in there and when it's nice. you don't need a tent. Just cowboy camp

    I hiked this trail 3 weeks in a row, much less trash now. NYNJ Trail conference and others are making a real effort to keep it clean. Shame the people leaving the trash wouldn't do the same. Also did you pass the ruins with the 8 or so columns with rocks stacks on top? Trying to find out what that is/was? Love your videos btw.;)

    I found it's not worth trying to stay in overrun areas. I go up the trail and spend the night in the bushes.

    That mess you discovered didn't used to occurr when I used to go there in the early-mid 70's. It did become a popular place in the late 70's into the 80's and trash, sadly, was a problem back then. I have even seen people pour gasoline on the ice and light it on fire on occasion. I agree-the place is no longer as deserted as it used to be. if you take the trail down to 7 lakes parkway to the Ranger Station by the parking lot, that was built because that area was so heavily used that there were gang-fights on occasion between the locals and folks from jersey. Also, be careful stepping into the lake barefooted. There are LOTS of broken beer bottles in there, and that's not new.

    If you run into any of the real old time park folks, ask them if they ever heard of the gage Gang.
    I have camped at Pine meadow hundreds of times over the year. There are many more sites away from the lake that are gorgeous.

    The problem with harriman state park is the at most of the people who visit it are tourists that are not locals and they bring their trash in and party.

    Harriman Park is a great for a day hike, but i would never stay in an overnight. I often go to Woodstock NY to Overlook. Great video. Thanks for cleaning up after the pigs.

      Rafael Lopez Thanks for checking it out! Why would you never stay there overnight?

    • @rafaellopez2480
      @rafaellopez2480 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well in my experience with Harriman area is that its a large population nearby and with that you will find the younger crowd showing up to drink and raise hell. I have way better experiences the farther out and desolate.

    • @OutWithMyGear
      @OutWithMyGear  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that can be an issue but there a few far out trails that aren't too popular that will give complete serenity. Our main reason not to bother with Catskills is because sometimes it takes over an hour just to get out of NYC and then 2 hour drive up. Same goes coming back with traffic in Manhattan or Staten Island.

      Which far out trails do you recommend to avoid the crowds? Where would you set up camp for an overnight?

    Savages.
    Thank you for being there, taking the time to share the wrong behavior and righting the wrong.
    I myself have had to clean up after the dregs of society in the same manner.
    So unfortunate
