  • Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic disease that causes progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass. In muscular dystrophies, abnormal genes (mutations) lead to muscle degeneration. One's number of genetic repeats are often used as an indicator of symptoms they will be challenged with and the severity levels of those symptoms.

Hi! Thanks for sharing this, I have Muscular Dystrophy for 15 years, my first symptoms started at the age of 21. Today I have difficulties walking, climbing stairs and little strength in my arms. I thought it was amazing to see a video like yours focusing on these types of exercises, I do physical therapy and pilates but I would like to work out more, but with a PT that knows how to work with people with this disease, but it's very difficult. I'll follow your job, to absorb what I can do best for my body. Keep going🤛 and thank you!

I have fshd in my family and repeats matter to0. Usually 1-3 are very bad and congenital, 4-7 are moderate and 8-10 you have non penetrance to more mild. My grandpa has an 8-10 repeats and we have a lot of asymptomatic in my family and/or more moderate affected. my grandpa only got really bad in his 70s..and he could walk with canes for long time even tho he was like you a small boy when he got symptoms. so it depends. Technically, my mom should be heading towards a chair and/or me if you read the literature and me and her are non affected mostly..my aunt is also non affected. theyre 50 and 60. im 30 and classic onset is usually before age 20. So alot of similarities between myotonic and FSHD! only difference is we dont have anticipation with fsh so repeat size is very stable and everyone inherits same size. FSH is also dominant and affects both genders.

Congenital MD doctors use to describe as severe. The symptoms are severe right from birth. Their development is delayed or has abnormalities. Myotonic dystrophy depending on repeats usually not always but usually symptoms come up as we age and sometimes if low enough there aren’t see if your are lucky!

Myotonia congenita is considered non-dystrophic and is not multi systematic impacting other parts of body. Myotonia congenita is what fainting goats have.
