    Thanks for the tutorial, I'm in the process of setting the valve clearance on my '79 750 and have been researching the process. You might want to do some more research as it's my understanding that you shouldn't turn over the crank from that side of the engine as there's a pin that can sheer off and mess up the timing. At least you didn't have the plugs in so you didn't have to overcome the compression. Another thing to be aware of is to NEVER rotate the engine while the shims are out of the buckets as this can damage the buckets and make for a lot more work to rectify. I understand that inserting a quarter (25 cent piece) will do well as a space holder if one should need to rotate the engine without the shims in place.
