Sam's moveset is the best short moveset ever. While it has a short amount of moves, it's functions are endless. Compared to Raiden's vast moveset, i wish we could play with Sam's more.
I have never seen a guide that delves as deeply into the combat mechanic of MGR as this. And I thought dodge cancelling to buffer, preserve and advance Raiden's combo string with the Bloodlust was the deepest there was lmao. Good job.

I replayed the game like 10 times since release but only now i found out Sam can perform blade mode charge attack? What the hell? Also are you planning on making tutorial about bladewolf? Maybe there's also some kind of hidden mechanics.
I am not sure if I am going to create a guide for Blade Wolf because I don't play as him that often and he is much more Stealth focused than Raiden. But even then I learned this: Press the left stick on your controller to manually lie down. This will not only makes you hide better but it will also regenerate your health over time. Kind of like in MGS Series.

Considering Sam has less mechanical advantages than Raiden is pretty clear why his move set is limited, I personally like to compare it with early Raiden's move set that was actually very limited, if you think about it, the beginning fight of them was actually balanced but the second one was just Ultra cyborg ninja destroying a Human with a good right arm and some armor but you'll not see an even close hint of a balanced fight here.
I wouldn't say that. Sam's suit is absolutely beefy as hell. A few kicks can kill a cyborg and permanently disable a UG. His armor is tough enough to survive and unrestrained string of punches from Armstrong, he's basically on par with Raiden's speed and is presumably wired with nanomachines to an extent based on his use of the Codec, and if you look at his legs, it looks like their CNT muscles are more similar to that of a Metal Gear than they are to any cyborg
Ok so some fun facts i discovered while playing with mods: Sam's charging slash is powefull enought to knockdown sundowner Risinf gale has enought range to keep sam safe from sundowner shields's explosions Due to his lack of a ripper mode sam does not have infinite FC in the monsoon fight, when combined with his bad blocking that fight is miserable with him

Aesthetic wise it is the 4-hit combo ending it with a heavy attack. the little spin Sam does after the combo looks so good! always a treat to watch it.

I find it pretty ironic how Sam being a samurai and all, instantly kill any enemy with his finisher kick while Raiden who uses kicks more just cuts his enemy like normal to finish them. Sure Raiden uses kick more but almost every kick from Sam is devastating.
Saxophone Under the Moon fits Sam way too freakin' well. That song has no right magnifying his cool factor that much. That aside, this tutorial just makes me mad knowing that he had so much more potential AND they killed him off.

@@bartysp2599 Ah, the "Gekkos", also called "Irvings". They got buffed a bit for the Jetstream DLC but one Gekko at a time can be handled quite easily still. Gekkos will always dodge your counter parry except when you weakened one of their legs enough (it turned blue and can be cut). There is also the attack where they try to jump on you. Perfect parrying that attack will always lead to a successful counter parry. But the thing is they don't jump on you directly with that attack. They target your back, doing a cross-up. So what you going to do in order to land that counter parry is to back dodge once and then parry the attack. There also these Comboes I like to use against them. These Comboes will kill a TAUNTED Gekko most of the time: 1.: Charging Slash --> Rising Gale --> Mid-Air Light Attack --> Avalanche [H] --> L>[H] --> j.L --> j.H This Combo is the easiest to land IMO. You just need a little bit of distance in order to safely charge up Charging Slash (You can do this but by running away for a bit or double back dodging one of their sweeping leg attacks). Hitting them with Charging Slash will leave the Gekko staggered, which gives you enough time to charge up Rising Gale. After connecting that it is just hitting Light attack and then Heavy Attack and you got yourself one dead Gekko. 2.: Rising Gale --> Mid-Air Charging Slash --> (Mid-Air Light Attack) --> Finishing Kick L>[H] --> j.[H] --> (j.L) --> Finisher This one is a good tool when you are dealing with 2+ Gekkos at the same time. The Rising Gale will deal heavy damage while giving you the much needed ground clearance to be save from their kick attacks (They can still stomp on you if they feel like it, so beware!). After Rising Gale, do a Charging Slash in the air immediately. This should leave the targeted Gekko stunned, giving you the prompt for the Finishing Kick, dispatching that one. You can also do a light attack after the Charging Slash just to be sure. 3.: Dashing Storm Front --> Blade Mode Cancel --> Charging Slash --> Light Attack --> Light Attack --> Finishing Kick dash. [H] --> BMC --> [H] --> L --> L --> Finisher 3.1.: Dashing Storm Front --> Blade Mode Cancel --> Charging Slash --> Rising Gale --> (Mid-Air Light Attack) --> Avalanche dash. [H] --> BMC --> [H] --> L>[H] --> (j.L) --> j.H A more risky combo for when you want to dish out big damage in short time. Best situation you can use this when you have a large gap and the Gekko is running towards you. By the time the gekko reached you, you should have charged up and release it at Point Blank to stagger it. Blade Mode Cancel and do a Charging Slash immediately. This will leave the Gekko stunned if both attack fully connected. The two light attacks are there to regain lost Fuel Cell meter from the Blade Mode Cancel in order to get the finishing prompt. 3.1. is pretty much the same but you don't have to worry about Fuel Cell Meter thanks to the Rising Gale to Avalance extension. I get the basics... but VR Mission 01 is still regularly kicking the stuffing out of me. It doesn't help that I finished the base game all on controller too.
An awesome tutorial, man! I got into Jetstream DLC just now after beating the base game on Hard without too much trouble, but Sam's DLC taught me a lesson in pain. I do have one question though. How do you deal effectively with gorilla enemies (Mastiffs, I think)? It feels like I can't effectively charge my attacks because they are either jumping or trying to grab me, or other enemies don't let me charge up. In the main game I also suffered, but at least there was stealth so I only directly fought them a few times.
I swear Jetstream Sam dlc has me fucking raging at the moveset, and all enemies always, ALWAYS CHASING ME AND WHEN I DO 1 SINGLE ATTACK THEY AUTO COUNTER ME AND MURDER ME
Because on a mechanical Level, Sam is more fun to than Raiden, for me atleast. Sam may have a limited move set but each one of Sam's moves is unique with their own use. To add to that: Sam puts so much style and coolness into everything he does, be it his little spin after the 4 hit combo, his Zandatsu (the jumping one is my absolute favourite) or even just his walking animation just oozes with style. You can actually dance around your enemies as Sam. Sam can taunt and your taunt actually have an attack with it's own trade-off. Not many games have that. Bayonetta, God Hand and Nier: Automata comes to my mind that have this mechanic. And you can't hate someone with a beautiful like Sam's, now can you? Sam is half the answer to Vergil's question to what may have happened if Dante and Vergil switched places.
Do you have any tips on how to no damage Sam’s hellish VR mission 4? The only way I’ve earned s-rank on vr 4 was via no kills and even then it was a pain on revengeance mode, UGs like mastiff and vodomjerka give me the most trouble in that mission… I’m currently trying to no damage all chapters minus R-00 and R-03 (I know about the fire extinguisher trick in R-03 but it’s too time consuming to care for ND bonus. I think chapter R-04 will give me most shit considering the lobby shoot out with GRAD… i wouldn’t even know how to do that without taking damage…

Some enemies will always dodge the counterparry unless you perfect parry a specific attack and/or weakened them enough. E.g.: Blade wolf will always dodge your counter if you perfect parry its chainsaw attacks but you'll land a counter parry if you perfect parry its claw or bodyslam attacks.
This game has potential break your controller faster. I hate when you have to mess your analog so mad after getting stun and to control the camera is one of the worst.

This game has potential break your controller faster. I hate when you have to mess your analog so mad after getting stun and to control the camera is one of the worst.
