"How do you know when you're aligned with your true vocation?"
A vocation is what somebody is called to do in life, bar non --- this clashes with societal constraints, parental pressure (nurture), the environment, popularity and the pursuit of wealth or fame (egotistical), are all at odds with the PSYCHE.
1:17:05 Not all designations in life suit. Being a charlatan can lead to "soul death" E.g., 50-year marriages

This podcast felt like it was 30 minutes long. Andrew and Jocko are great to listen to together
Because they are basically not saying anything
@@metabalcanico5719 Exactly. I love the Hubermanlab podcast but when he's speaking off the cuff he really isn't that eloquent or interesting.
Right?!
@@metabalcanico5719 So much was said.
There is something about the Jocko x Huberman combination that I love.
Their last podcast I listened to in May of 2022 was a critical point in improving my life where after hearing their discussion I really got after it that spring/summer. It sparked a pattern of behavior where I drove 2.5 hours to volunteer at a summer camp every weekend from June-August. I bought the audiobooks for Extreme Ownership & Dichotomy of leadership to listen to on my weekly drives.
Looking back, Episode 332 was hugely influential and beneficial to my mental and physical wellbeing. I’m just over an hour in and think this will be the next huge evolution leading into this summer. Thanks guys.
GET SOME!
It sounds like you’re doomed. Delete your TH-cam, throw your phone away and go into the woods for 4 days alone. Bring two books, The Road & Benjamin Franklin: An American Life. Guarantee you won’t need a podcast ever again.
It’s good to see Andrew in your Podcast. You have to either invite him often or start a new side podcast. You make the perfect team.
This would be awesome!
No, don't do that
guys like Jocko, Huberman and Echo Charles talking about Taylor Swift from a respectful stand and admiring her work ethic while discussing political changes we will have to go through to be better at HUMANITY just made my day. thank you for this.
Great observation man. Well said!
This feels like such an organic conversation between friends, and yet has intensely powerful implications. Great podcast 👏
I am from Argentina. I wanna thank you from the bottom of my heart. Both your channels changed my life for the best (just as an example, cant believe i lost 20 kgs using you as inspiration and changing my exercise and nutrition habits). Please do not fall for the EASY bait of people who know nothing more than hating and trying to throw dirt on the ones DOING.
Jocko o Huberman?

I love your country bro, amazing people.
You know it's going to be a good day when a Jocko (and Echo, of course) and Huberman podcast drops!! Looking forward to this one!!
Hearing that Warrior Kid is going to be a movie with Chris Pratt made me so happy that my non-dominant eye almost watered up. My daughter and I have enjoyed those books so much and when my son is old enough I will get to enjoy them all over again.
I’m not a man…but I’m so excited to watch this. I won’t even finish it tonight because I’ll be working on some music but…thank you

I started listening to Punk Rock/ Straight edge metal when my father died. It's been 10 years now and this type of music has been infused with my brain. I'm now listening to bands like Hatebreed, No Retreat, Cold Hard Truth, Enemy Mind, Throwdown, and so on, Some of the hardest music ever.
This is my absolute favorite episode so far. The three of you did and did a great job not just effective telling but also effective teaching. I love the punk rock background. Growing up skateboarding in NorCal in the '80s and '90s everything you talked about today just kind of hit home. Had the privilege of having lunch at warped tour with rancid in the early 2000's in Sacramento. Such unassuming and very nice people. You guys killed this episode. Thanks!
I felt like this episode in particular was very open and honest both ways. I also like the banterish chemistry Jocko has with Andrew, great ep.
In response to Jocko saying he never expected people to enjoy him reading old 1st person war stories, I gotta say, I personally wish he would cover even more, the earlier podcasts were my absolute favorites. Very underrated.
Yes!! Three hours of Jocko and Huberman together - I’m sorted for the day

Hi guys, it is an incredible pleasure waking up with your friendly and informative conversation. Try to stay safe and well, it isn't that easy these days. Keep up the good vibes. Thank you all for making me smile first thing this morning.

Our microbiome health.
Online discussion needs to be taught, people need to know the difference between opinion and constructive criticism.
We can use it for helping people to level up or tear people down.
Know that we cannot be the best version of ourselves if we're not helping others be a better humans, too.
We can help nuture the world around us and nurure ourself in the process.
Im 53. I had same experience not only with punk but thru the metal scene in the early 80's. Black Flags "Damaged" is one of my favorites.😂. Ih and great conversation. Very relatable in insightful for me.
Im 37.. this comment reminded me of talking to Dez Cadena for like 45 minutes with my cousin after a Misfits show when I was a teenager.
What a genuine inspiration of a man and vast wealth of knowledge. Infinite gratitude to you Andrew. Subbed Jocko.
Loved this conversation! It’s always fun to see Andrew Huberman being interviewed.
His response to people talking shit about him caring for his dog is priceless “fuck you!!”🤌🏽
I agree that how people care for their animals (or don’t care) says alot about them.
Thank you!!
Hitler loved animals too.
I know a couple of abusers who look after their animals well.
@@Girlintherocket do you need a hug?
@@jasminebarratt1809 I hear what you are saying and just because he took excellent care of his dog doesn’t mean he hasn’t been abusive. It also doesn’t mean he has.
I respect and appreciate him and will not be passing any judgment based on interviews with women he’s been romantically involved with. Seems pretty silly to hop on that bandwagon but if you choose to do so, I respect your choice✌️❤️💛💚
I became a big Hubes fan after his first appearance on Jocko Pod. Glad to see him back on the program.
This is great! I’m even more excited to see the Superman movie now. Seeing David being so casual and relatable was really nice and gave me some perspective of what kind of person he is. Not the character we see on screen but the man playing him. Very happy that James Gunn chose this young man. I see a bright future ahead of him.
A podcast of goggins and jocko would be the best ..
I don't think they like each other. I think Goggins is controversial in military.
Not sure there's much love between them!
I love Huberman's humilíty. I do not love the fact Jocko still has not found a way to cover any topic or appear on any show without somehow making it all about Jocko, and how amazing Jocko is, and how humble Jocko thinks Jocko is, and how brilliant Jocko is, and, and, and ..
Jocko, Jocko. He's turned into the Eminem of the media world.
Authenticity is replete with mistakes, just like the Dr said, so are we all. Great fkn podcast Jocko. 💪💪🔥🔥
Yas! I haven’t even heard the whole podcast yet but it has already made my day listening to fellow old school punks telling the tales. I too was in the Bay Area mid 80’s with purple hair and safety pins in my ears messing around at Gilman, the Mabuhay, etc, living the punk scene. The many decades between then and now i have been powering through that soul death that was mentioned. So becoming an avid listener to both Jocko and Huberman podcasts has been a genuine lift to my spirit, perspective and attitude. I think the long Huberman episodes are excellent as I have a commute so perfect fuel for my brain to and from work. Huge Jocko fan. My son is Air Force (myself a Navy vet) so exposure to the books and supps has been a game changer in my habits and self talk. Was just so excited to hear references to Strummer, the Ramones, Jello, I had to message. Ok now I can drive my commute and hear the rest. Just Mahalo meh dudes.
Thank you both for this amazing 3+ hour podcast! The ending and the voice of Jocko gave me goosebumps. Thank you again.!
He was smart about it. He responded to the article in an environment he felt secure, with friends who wont push him for explanation. And I honestly dont think it would be necessary.
There needs to be a Barbara Walters award that understands well ask questions to help people to open up their hearts completely with no judgement .

I just realized I posted under my son's account 😂
@@Savannah_Kniebelhahahaha! That’s funny. Love it!
Jocko! Love that ending! Gave me goosebumps. Your voice has so much truth in it. I'm starting to realize how important the voice is becoming in this time of ours. Not metaphorically but Literally, the sound of a specific voice that speaks from experience that is colored by truth, memory and emotion of that lived experience, or from a deep personal understanding of that of which it describes. This may be more powerful now then ever becauese for the most part we live in a time where society has most of it's needs met, so it's become a deep struggle to dig deep in life, and there are so many distractions that I think the obstacles are stacked against us. So hearing a VOICE, of truth, it resonates by default, BUT has extra potency because it's rises to the top, in a sea of other voices that are flat, lacking, and not as rich. I think Jocko is a poet, and he doesn't know it. And that is said with NO pun intended.
Andrew and Jocko are two of the greatest men of our generation - real talk!
Personal growth and outgrowing your parents and raising offspring,,,everything else pales insignificance but there's fun and reward in finding your way through mastery of skills and simple pleasures preferably shared 😊
“I wear my heart on my sleeve for daws to peck at…” famous line by Iago in Othello. Actually, Iago uses this line not to show he is authentic but to show that he is openly deceiving. A line that is often misconstrued for being honest. It actually means I’m showing you my true colours in order to deceive you. Most people won’t think someone who is deceptive will show their true colours. That’s why Iago is truly one of my great Shakespearean characters. As he says later on “I am not what I am”! He is the very true nature of a villain. Unassuming but potent.
"The scientific explanation is: Fuck you" 🤣
that was a first hearing him swear lolol

That was priceless! Scientific proof that this man loved his dog DEEPLY.

"I believe that one defines oneself by reinvention. To not be like your parents. To not be like your friends. To be yourself. To cut yourself out of stone." Henry Rollins This quote perfectly summarizes much of your podcast.
So awesome, I was just listening to the interview with Jocko on Huberman’s show yesterday!
I look forward to these. I wish Jocko’s voice was on all my audibles.
The quote from TTRD film always flattens me. It is so powerful and tragic. One of my favourite moments in cinema.

I think the root cause of adolescent rebellion is the need to feel proof of unconditional love. To be loved as just an extension of your initial programming doesn't cut it. To receive attention and appreciation and enduring presence in spite of their failures to relate to your differences and idiosyncratic needs-- not just to validate the demonstrative projects of parents-- is to actually be loved.
I've been vegan punkrock straightedge since 1980. I started my own business in large part from that straightedge punk rock DIY mindset. I'm a little older than Huberman but I, too, grew up in the Bay Area and definitely spent MANY hours at shows at Gilman and lots of other places especially where underage shows were happening. I share a lot of overlapping experiences, and worldview/punk rock ethics with ya all to this day. Minor Threat, Social Distortion, many others were huge for me. I hung out with skaters, artists, musicians and various misfits, but I wasn't a "Betty". Fun to hear all the stories.
It’s fun how Hub’s can turn the host into the guest
I don't think that was Huberman's doing
Jocko doesn’t wake up and look at the sun … instead, the sun wakes up and looks at Jocko!
Heck yea
Flip sides of the same coin, doing the opposite of our parents, is still the same coin. It's not evolving, it's just a different way of reacting to and staying in the same root story. What's underneath the behavior is the exact same foundation. The same story is still driving the bus.
Good insight
😊
This a great convo. Feels like listening to old friends.
Are we just going to glaze over the fact that Huberman has a Hollywood quality Cookie Monster impersonation?

Jocko has Hubbys back? Good to know. Says a lot about his own character and how he operates.

I was in the skateboarding community when I was 14 y.o, thankfully didn't fall into any addiction. I was in love with punkrock early 90s! And coincidentally did go into the science field for grad school! So it is so cool every time I know someone from the field with similar background. Let's mention that the singers from The offspring and Bad Religion, both are PhD in science/ecology respectively 😁 loved it!
Dammit man, Huberman is so good at interviewing people, he just interviewed Jocko in his own pod 🤣 I’m not even mad
The intro reminds me of the bit the always sunny crew does so well, where the gang is just doing something intense or ridiculous and the camera pans out to reveal someone else was there just witnessing it.
Like all of a sudden jocko stops reading this passage so intensely and there’s the HUBES.

I've seen other channels attack this gentlemen. But his advice on leadership and life has helped me make better choices. Ill continue to listen to the message this gentlemen says. I believe that we as people are our own god. You have to believe and for ppl its about a god or other believe systems. Its alot like manifestation you have to play the part however it may be. You really need to believe and want change and focus all your energy in the rite places and at times dont forget to always remember the past and past lessons. I learned the hard way. I lost my girlfriend and my mind. But honestly she showed me somuch but it was to late for me and her but we are talking now and asked for help from me. Its not a bad thing to need a helping hand. I didnt know what was really going on and i made life so hard for us both bc i was being so negative and i see now more then ever and its to little to late but iam able to let change happen or you will not get anywhere when your stuck in past things. Just accept everything and learn from it and dont give up and always believe that its possible to get ahead but you need to make positive progress and have the hope and it will come together more and more. She showed me Andrew and iam so thankful for that and for her. We went other ways but thats ok its never to late to fix your life
