I was fortunate enough to have been there. I had never heard of them. They became my favourite band after about 15 seconds of them appearing. I was close enough to the stage to see they were nervous but by the time they got to this song 20 odd minutes later they had the crowd in the palms of their hands. The huge smiles on their faces as they left the stage was worth the ticket price alone. I didn’t hear anyone laugh but I did hear a few gasps of incredulity as three little girls (and I mean tiny) absolutely owned that festival. Seen them a few times since, including twice in Japan, and they have improved beyond belief but that day will live on forever in my heart. A once in a generation band featuring a once in a lifetime singer in Su. (Suzuka Nakamoto).
I love to see Su‘s happiness at the end. It‘s really obvious how relieved and proud they are to have made it. The song is about bullying, hence the little fight scene between Moa and Yui in the middle, before Su steps in and pacifies them (hope that’s the correct word).
There is another reactor on TH-cam who was at that concert did not realize it until he saw himself and his brother in the crowd shot before the song begins!
4'10 for the smaller girls.. 16,15.15 ages.. stage presence for days.. owned a crowd of hardened UK metal fans.. it's just sooooo impressive.. there is nothing like them in the world today. btw i like them :)
Even at 16, Su had the most impressive death glare. Also, if you want to hear Su's more mature voice, the live version of BMC is what you should be checking out. And if complete insanity is your jazz, have a look at "Babymetal Death" live from the Legends 1997 concert.
Personally, I like Headbanger from Legends 1997 better, but that's mostly because it has a lot more of Su's vocals and the crowd interaction is better IMO
Great reaction, thanks! Although I'm sure I've watched it before. Re-upload? Anyway, this performance meant an inflection point for them, specially overseas. Even they admitted years later that this was probably the most important gig in their career. Su used zero vibratto on purpose back in the day. In more recent times you can hear that she applies some controlled vibratto here and there. It's even more noticeable in one of the snippets from their new album (release on March 2023). It's gonna be epic! See you next time!
This was a very special performance for the girls. The band was expecting a much smaller crowd, and so were the organizers, so there wasn't enough concession food for the all festival attendees who showed up that day. There were a few pepperoni pizzas, but they sold out early, and someone found a few bags of cold nacho cheese, but no actual nachos to dip into it. After their set, BABYMETAL heard that the crowd might have to go hungry until 5ish when the chip trucks were scheduled to arrive. They hurriedly pooled together the food they had. Moa had a container of sushi her mom had prepared for her, and Yui had a small basket of tomatoes. As the fans filed by, Moa would offer a California roll, and Su sat with the little knife she keeps in her microphone and sliced Yui's tomatoes and passed them out. With that meager amount of food, they somehow managed to feed all 60,000 fans well enough to give them energy to enjoy the following acts. Legend has it they didn't even need to open the nacho cheese bags.
what faszinates me the most is that yuis Dress has a Wardrobe Malfunction on her skirt 6:58, and you only realize it if you are really concentraing on it. Yui did such a good job and so much practice . I mean i only realized it after i watched it like 20 times^^
The best Metal song ever about stopping bullying forever. 🦊🤘🤘🦊 Su said in an interview back in Dec 2020 that this was her favourite moment in her career as she knew by the end that Babymetal had been accepted by a major Metal crowd (this was their first Metal Festival appeareance outside of Japan and the crowd was around 50,000 or more). 🦊🤘🤘🦊 Su is a soprano with a range of C4 to G#5 (G#6 once in a duet with Rob Halford) - and she can sing it all while doing the choreography.
Great reaction - a re-upload? I'm sure we told you all about this song and performance with the original upload, so I won't repeat all that. I really hope this is like a prelude to more BABYMETAL reactions, I really do enjoy your reactions to so many of my favourite bands and others I don't know so well - but you are just scratching at the surface of BABYMETAL so far. They have just announced they are coming back from their 12 month hiatus and will be releasing 5 new singles, one a month until March and then their new concept album will be released worldwide.
I think you'd really love Su's voice in "Shine". There she is much older and matured, her voice even more perfected and her first notes sometimes just brings tears yo my eyes. Thanks for the reaction and hopefully you'll check out my recommendation.

My long search for classic Metal with a fresh twist was fulfilled back in 2014! Thanks again Kobayashi san! Without you my days of listening to rock/metal would've been over! Cheers Mate!

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🚫 Lead singer Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto, or just "Su") avoids using a lot of vibrato, in favor of clearly enunciated notes. I don't speak Japanese, but fans from Japan have mentioned that she is particularly easy to understand, even over heavy guitars, bass and drums, compared to other singers. She's the tallest member, standing around 5' 2" (156 cm). Although she's more like 50 feet tall on stage. : )
The song title translates to No Bullying Forever. Maybe that'll help u understand the fight choreography more. But isn't it so epic? Little girls singing a metal anti-bullying song. :)
If you want to hear the real J metal, watch one of the Lovebites songs (all female metal band): Chopin etude+Swan song for example. Babymetal is industry Sony company with a lot of people that works for three young girls. Ah, this intro riff is a copy of Lovebites : Bravehearted! The musicians often change and are only for accompaniment! Thanks.
@@rean9603 But this song isn't Lovebites, but Haruna song, the only one in Japanese language and Haruna begun to write songs in 2007 and her carrier in Destrose begun in 2012!
I did not know.I’m sorry. I think the two are fundamentally different. LOVEBITES has a high performance skill, but at worst it is common. BABYMETAL may not have the metal band spirit, but they're innovative. I think that which one we like is a matter of taste and cannot be compared. i like LOVEBITES too. thank you for telling me the nicesong Bravehearted.
Good Reaction! Since immaturity is the selling point of the Japanese idol industry, vibrato tends to be used in some songs because it gives the impression of old age, but the recently matured BABYMETAL sometimes uses it at key points in some songs.
Nice reaction. Best anti bullying song ever. The font glitch got you. The first word in the title starts with an i. making the word ijime. This also happens with their early song iine. Su was very happy at the end of this performance. You can always tell how happy she is with the performance by how much emotion she shows at the end. This time you got to see Yui and Moa. They bring the kawaii to the metal. During the song when they started bullying each other and fighting. Su jumps in to break them up. One of the versus is about the friend who doesn't step in to stop the bullying. And how that hurts just as much as the bullying. Su stopping them puts the message forward everyone can stop bullying. All you have to do is step up. While nervous about this performance. It's been said that Su was worried that no one would be there. From her view backstage she couldn't see the big crowd that showed up early to get good spots for the big-name acts that played later that night. Imagine their surprise when they walked out to that large crowd. Babymetal always steps up to the challenge. Go out there and do the best you can. The best they can, won over that audience. Su said she could it see it from the stage. The crowd getting into the show starting like a wave from the front of the stage going to the back of the crowd. That had to be an amazing feeling. a big step to Babymetal conquering the world. With their 4th album coming out in March and a release of a new song every month until then. Babymetal takes to the road again to continue that journey.
I will do a suggestion for you if you love pure vocals... check out 'the first take'. its a show where the singers get a single take to perform a song, with minimal backing.. maybe a piano. Babymetal do 'monochrome'. a girl called Lisa does an epic performance 'first take - homura'. You will love it and i'll be impressed if you don't have a tear. If you have energy left after that.. go check John Farnham live version of 'help' with melbourne symphony orchestra. I guarantee you will not regret any of them!!! Pinky promise!!
Actually, Scott and Mitch were introduced to Babymetal via a Fine Brothers' TH-camrs React to Babymetal video. The video is available on the FBE React channel. Sometime later FBE produced Babymetal Reacts to TH-camrs React to Babymetal, also on the React channel.
Did something happened with your first upload of this song? Anyway glad to see you again but i really wish you go for a new song to react, try Headbanger! live at Legend 1997, Gans Tomas got that clip safe to react, or Megitsune official MV (heavily blocked, careful) or live at Budokan 2014. What a performance! These little teenage girls have got it all. Great song sung so very well. Hyperenergetic dancing in those fabulous costumes. A really good band that delivers metal like nobody’s business and that guitar work that reaches all the way back to the birth of metal in the late 1960s. And in Kabuki Oshiroi makeup. :-) Totally over the top but at the same time totally in control. Loved seeing you get down into that groove! 🐣
Yeah Moa and Yui when young (as in 11 ish) and for most of their career with Sakura Gakuin (which was up to 15) (SG is the idol group they were all part of out of which BABYMETAL formed) were TINY. I mean to this day a 23yo Moa is barely 5 foot and Su is only a few inches taller.

My favorite Babymetal song has always been the second one they released, iine. I do also like some of their later stuff (e.g., BxMxC), but nothing has ever surpassed iine for me. And yes, I was aware of Babymetal when they only had two songs out. (I was attempting to study the Japanese language at the time and was therefore following some related blogs, which is how I found out about them, and Yousei Teikoku, q.v., and Melt Banana.) The thing I really like about Babymetal, is that their material is pretty consistently way less monotonous than most metal; they're constantly changing up what they're doing, musically, as they move through each song. Basically they keep it interesting. 5'8" would actually be pretty tall for a Japanese woman; the median is only 5'2".
In those early years Yui and Moa had no understanding of managing their energy - they always did performances at 200%. I mean for girls so young they just ran and danced as fast and as fully as they could. No wonder they used to need rest breaks DURING concerts. Luckily with age and experience they can still look like giving 200% while actually conserving energy lol. But that is BM live - they always give their all and their very best. Seen them live 3 times and yes I would sell my soul to see them again they are that good live.
'What's going on' It's an anti bullying song. They are saying both 'ijime dame' (no bullying) and 'kitsune jame' (foxes fly) in the chorus it sounds the same but they're saying both and the crowd jumps for (foxes fly).
Woooo 6" tall Maggie !! Yooooo you are really intimidating to face my dear. The voice, the look, the height, the brilliant mind and perfect ears. U R Awesome
True, but to be fair it's odd how so many fonts make l and I hard to differentiate.. they just rely on the context of you knowing the word you're reading
Sort of. I mean there is a perfectly good capital "I" with lines at the top and bottom to easily differentiate it.. just a lot of fonts don't use those
I was fortunate enough to have been there. I had never heard of them. They became my favourite band after about 15 seconds of them appearing. I love to see Su‘s happiness at the end. It‘s really obvious how relieved and proud they are to have made it.
The song is about bullying, hence the little fight scene between Moa and Yui in the middle, before Su steps in and pacifies them (hope that’s the correct word).
I love her grin of triumph there. She was completely aware of what they'd just achieved.

Luckily with age and experience they can still look like giving 200% while actually conserving energy lol.
But that is BM live - they always give their all and their very best. Seen them live 3 times and yes I would sell my soul to see them again they are that good live.
Bad lawyer tries the Pokemon defense of a peeping tom: all the guy wanted was a little Pikachu!

5 foot 9? Nope. Moa was 5 foot even. Su and Yui 5 foot 1 inch.
'What's going on' It's an anti bullying song. They are saying both 'ijime dame' (no bullying) and 'kitsune jame' (foxes fly) in the chorus it sounds the same but they're saying both and the crowd jumps for (foxes fly).
Not el jime, but eejee mee.
the tallest girl here is 5'1''
Ijime is pronounced as ee-jee-me.

React "Babymetal Death" is amazinggggg
Welcome to the fox hole 🤘🏾🦊🤘🏾
Well, it's pretty clear that Maggie doesn't speak Japanese based on her pronunciation of this song's title
True, but to be fair it's odd how so many fonts make l and I hard to differentiate.. they just rely on the context of you knowing the word you're reading
@@Wagoo yea in Japanese characters its very easy to tell so I guess its mostly a struggle for roman alphabet based languages
Sort of. I mean there is a perfectly good capital "I" with lines at the top and bottom to easily differentiate it.. just a lot of fonts don't use those
What 15 year old Japanese girl is 5'8"? They weren't even 5' in this vid!
You love Pikachu and BABYMETAL is Pikachu’s favorite band!
