I did a bit of this as a course 2 student at MIT way back 58 years ago. Amazing how technology education has progressed and learning has become more effective. I had great professors at MIT who taught me to think , using a trite expression “ outside the box”. But if the fundamentals are clear, one can use that knowledge forever in analyzing any technological problem. My advice -learn the basics , particularly the math because that’s how we communicate.

Does he learn from student mistakes over the years, and then he uses that to advise future students during their projects? Or does the curriculum actually present students in class with lots of case studies of failures, so they get all of that wisdom?

Man, my dream is to have this kind of engagement with development and prototyping here in my country (Brazil). We are no where near...sadly.
