  • This week I'll focus onto showing you how I restring a Jazz Bass in the best possible way. On this video I show a couple of details that were missing from my previous video, on which I restring a Precision bass - so don't miss this one! :)
This video is the 5th episode in our series "Zen & The Art Of Guitar Maintenance", dedicated to teaching you detailed techniques how to make the most out of your instrument. Remember - a well cared for bass will inspire you to play more... and playing more equals at becoming a better player!
Despite the fact that I'm using on these videos instruments from a variety of brands for demonstration purposes, I'm not affiliated with any of them... ... except my own brand Ruokangas, of course.
Thank you my brother Jani Ruokangas for borrowing this bass to us!

Hi Juha, great Video! Is the guitar detailer suitable for cleaning a barebone coating? LG Rainer

Thanks Rainer! Yes, you can use guitar detailer for the barebone finish.

    Aren't Thomastik-Infeld strings round core ?

Yes, many of them are, but some Thomastik-Infeld strings (such as the Power Brights for electric guitar) can also be hex core.

@@ruokangas i think the flatwound are round.... btw, i made a similar comment on the other video, if the tuning posts have the silly hourglass shape (like Mexican Fenders), its best to have "more rope" for the A string such to have enough windings to keep the string as close as possible to the headstock, otherwise the angle to the nut is not steep enough and the string must buzz open...

@@erezk2170 Yes, of course, just as I also explained in the video - you can/should adjust the string angle from nut to tuner post with how many round of string you wind around each post. And, obviously, there are many different kind of posts - the diameter can be bigger (like typically in Fender bass) or smaller (like in many Ibanez and other modern basses with smaller headstock), and there are differences in the shape of the post as well, as you mentioned. :)
