THANKS FOR WATCHING GUYS! THIS EPISODE ONE OF MANY COVERING WHAT IT TAKES TO GET INTO THE LIVE EVENT INDUSTRY. STAY TUNED FOR EPISODE TWO WHERE WE TAKE A LOOK AT AUDIO CONSOLES AND NETWORKING!
I rarely comment on videos, but needed to here. This guy is in my option a top fella. Respectable, honest and humble. Really refreshing. Wish you every success mate from here in the UK.
Young man I love your attitude and ability to clearly convey the intricacies of outfitting and rigging your PA. Keep going, stay humble, and make the audience never want to leave your shows. Anyone looking to enter sound reinforcement should consider watching this video. Great content!
I stumbled across your video and while I am not interested in getting into your business I dabble in pro audio and found your video very informative. You are one of the most well spoken folks I have listened to and watched on TH-cam. I am sure you are helping a lot of folks wanting to get in your line of work so keep up the good job you are doing informing people. You are a natural public speaker / teacher!
I have work with A LOT of sound companies and most of owners think they are the best!!!! This guy is the real deal very humble and very honest! best of luck in the future!
Martin Audio, Meyer Sound etc. - they all started with one guy, an idea, lots of hard work and plenty of ambition. You're a great guy with a great attitude. Keep going.
this what we sound guys use as work horses on a decent general session or a glorified Break out room. versatile and very convenient. Great video man. very simple and straight to the point.
I know when I go spending $10k+ for my corporate events, I'm not looking for a dude with a small PA and lights. I'm looking for someone that can facilitate a production at scale that provides the atmosphere and logistical delivery we need to have a successful event. This is great, John. Thanks for putting this together.
Awesome video. Very informative. I've known many smaller companies that have made a good living off these bad boys. They may not throw that far, but definitely can get the job done for the smaller gigs. They were the gateway to bigger things for us. And for those who don't want to get too big, they're just fine to make a good living with.
Howdy from Houston brother, I’ve been in the live sound touring and corporate business since 1987; congratulations , you have a , very clean ,organized and professional company, very well put together, better than many bigger, so called “professional” companies out there, I liked in particular the cable management behind the amp rack, that’s how I do it, keep up the good work and have a productive 2019
Hey John, just wanted to say when rigging your PA try not to rig the slings in a manor that pulls the truss apart (hoist sling on top bar, PA sling on bottom). This weakens the truss. The PA sling should be choked on the top bar and the hoist sling choked on the bottom.
First off I don’t know how this ended up in my feed but it was fun and you are a great explainer! Might want to also add your 64k figure is easily tripled when you add wedges and PA and mics and cable and cases and other stuff.
What happens to me a lot is DJ's will come up to me to tell me About their $ 10,000.00 Sound system and There $ 2500.00 Light System . I let them Know, That almost Cover the cost of my Snakes(copper) Sub Snakes , Mic Cables... They Look at me Like I am LYING to them .. Then They Show Me Pictures of the PEAVEY System they are Running at 2 Ohms . So they can Get all of the Power out of it they can . But Keep Blowing Up speakers and amps ...
I do much smaller scale events (High Schools with like 400 ppl dances) so what I run is a pair of PRX 735s and one of those STX828s subs and man does that sub sound good!
Just fell over your video by coincidence. I really appreciate your honesty and clear view on the business and your position in it. Keep on, man! But would advise you the LabGruppen PLM 20000 as a 2in4 Dolby Lake Processing amp which replaces your whole amp city by one piece. Guess what: I sell 4 of them. ;) But indeed, Check the used market. Light weighted and an investment for the next 20years. Go ahead, best wishes from a brother from Germany.
Great video, as a DJ a 15 years and as sound engineer contractor for other companies that do Festival sound it is important for some folks to know the difference. These videos would have been great to see when I first started...
I stumbled across this by accident. I was watching home stereo videos and this came up. I found it quite interesting and learned a few things as well. You seem very sincere and knowledgable about your business. I wish you all the luck.
Dj U12GO hear and I don't turn on notifications ever but I will for this. ima go through all your content keep up the good work ep1 was exactly what I was looking for.
Right on man.. It was a pleasure watching you explaining from the top down about your rig. I’m sure you have upgraded since making this video. Looking forward to seeing where your at, almost a year later 👍🏼 Peace and Respect from Ireland 🇮🇪 🤜🏼🔊🤛🏼
Well done, man... Nice work on your vid. Very informative... love your genuine humility and straight forward approach. A true, knowledgeable gentleman. All the best!
I have worked with some big name acts and owned my own lighting rig and worked side by side with a couple of production companies. And to say all that to say this you did an awesome job with the video good info and the equipment looks clean and professional.
John, nice video! Good info for folks. People should appreciate the time and effort that the cabling in the back of the rack took to make it neat and easy to navigate.
I've always wanted subs like that in a home theater build. I'd probably do rear projection & put that huge box behind the projector screen & build 2 corner [L+R] speaker towers to cover the corners... now let's see, all I need now is the money to afford it 🤔😂😭😭😭
Lightning Prod why are people saying this guy is humble and honest? I keep seeing the word “humble” and “honest.” Does he look like he could be potentially prideful? Or dishonest? Doesn’t to me... I’m confused. I see white guys do awesome reviews but no one says they are honest and humble. They just simply like the review. Just a question. ✌🏾

A bunch of years ago, I was touring with a Rock Circus show here in UK and one venue had this system installed (with a few less cabinets) but we left our rig in the truck and did the show though the installed rig, it was AWESOME!!
Thanks for making a great video, sir. I have a slightly older JBL SRX rig with Crown MacroTech amps, plus some QSC backup/monitor amps, etc. Your claims and recommendations are right in line with my experiences! Best wishes!
Hi John! Thank you! That's a really helpful and informative video. We deal in very high-end self-powered audio systems and at the end of your video I decided to look up what we could do for about $64,418.00. I was amazed! 8 x SSP218 + 6 x AT212 + 4 x custom carts plus covers for everything. 32,000W of subwoofer amps and 18,000W of tops amps, including all DSP and the price came to $64,580.00. BASSBOSS will be linking to your video to demonstrate the outstanding value we provide! Thank you again!!!
I've experienced BassBoss myself, at the DJ Expo in Atlantic City. What a vulgar display of power and clean sound. Words cannot express what my body felt. John S, great video!
What you have to ask yourself when Starting out . DO I JUST WANT to Cover the DJ Market OR also get into the Live Sound Market ? If you Chose to do Just the DJ Market the OFF BRANDS you See Out there built for the DJ Market are Fine . BUT if you want to move into the Live Sound Markey , you MUST have Rider Friendly Equipment .That NO NAME DJ stuff will not work in the Live Sound Market .. RCF SPEAKERS ALL THE WAY !!!!!!
If you ever want to improve your ability, you should check out DAS Event 208 line arrays they are powered no need for amps you can run 8 boxes per 20 amp breaker. I used to have a few vrxs for side fill and the Event 208s blown them out of the water. If you ever have questions about anything or need advice let me know I work for one of the largest production companies in the US, and I'm always willing to share knowledge.
I Appreciate all of your advice and in-depth explanations of your inventory and what it took to get you where you are now and do's and don'ts's and stuff. God Bless

Great Job John! I'm glad you broke it down the way that you did. You have a lot of djs out there that would like to build a rock solid sound system to play larger spaces.. keep up the great work. DjMyguy, NYC
At the end of the day every sound company has gear, its the crew that makes the difference. Look after every client really well and rewards shall come your way!
That 6th speaker in your array has a purpose. Look into the research and developments of Don B. Keele. By attenuating the speakers along the curve you can almost ignore the inverse square law and fill a space with the same volume of sound at all corners.
The Cost of a Rider Friendly System is around $ 225,000.00 including the Truck .... The Prices are Based off of MAP Pricing for All of the Equipment and The Truck is Based off of what a 2018 Isuzu NQR with a 20 foot Box and Lift gate would be . This system is Based off of what I have and Use . Mine is a Little bit more because I carry 80 Mics with my System . All Mic Stands are K&M . They Last . All Copper Cables were Priced through , www.Audiopile.net as were all the Cases ... I do Around 250 to 300 events a year .. They Pay between $ 1250.00 to $ 3500.00 a Night .
Harold Christian Great video John, I have a seven pc. band in Va. Beach Va. area. I'm the sax player and own All of the sound equipment, you're right about easy to get into but hard to get out. What started out as a basic P.A. setup has grown to about half of your price. I have an passive JBL Speaker setup with crown amps and a powered JBL SRX 800 Series speaker setup with a Soundcraft digital mixer. And now thinking about 4 of the JBL VRX 932 lap's. Covid 19 has slowed us All down a bit. But man enjoyed All of your videos and will be contacting you soon, I also have contacted D.J. Rick Webb on speaker advice. Proud of you man keep on doing your thing.
Well made, intelligently delivered and informative video. Although not personally into live sound, I enjoyed watching this. I am currently experimenting with some QSC speakers for "home theater" application- with good results- in place of the normal home speaker selection. Keep up the good work.
Going into the supply of good sound system costs heck of a lot, then there is the cost of maintenance. My favourite system is still from L’Acoustics. The K2s, Karas etc. So so sweet. All the best!
Awesome information. I agree with most in hoping the best in your business and it's refreshing to see someone being honest and not full of themselves or looking to be popular. Genuine! Have you considered also looking into maybe doing home theater set ups as well or if have experience in it do videos on that as.well
THANKS FOR WATCHING GUYS! THIS EPISODE ONE OF MANY COVERING WHAT IT TAKES TO GET INTO THE LIVE EVENT INDUSTRY. STAY TUNED FOR EPISODE TWO WHERE WE TAKE A LOOK AT AUDIO CONSOLES AND NETWORKING!

Thank you for even thinking to take the time to make this video.
DBX, Crown, JBL, Martin lighting, all Harman. All the same family. :)
Not to mention Lexicon
Ever get drunk and try this thing in your living room?
Ralph Hardwick lmfao I was just thinking that 😂 every other night I’d end up having a concert haaha
For real that’s what I would do
Lmao bro that’s the funny comment I’ve ever seen
That's why I can't have a rig (that and poverty)
Dude I just shouted in laughter 😭😭

Thumbs up for the honesty of the intro alone. Keep pushing cuz 👍🏿

I do much smaller scale events (High Schools with like 400 ppl dances) so what I run is a pair of PRX 735s and one of those STX828s subs and man does that sub sound good!
Electrovoice CP-series amps are serious. They have quality output, even for subs. I use a pair to run my Danley TH-118's bridge-mono.

Yeah but you'll have to run a power and signal cable to each thats a major disadvantage to active speakers
Exact video I need as I look into making a 5 figure investment into a concert level pa. Lol
Look for AudioFocus
at 5 figures, look into L'Acoustics ARCS system.
Look at voice acoustics & D&B AUDIOTECHNIK
Bassboss has some great options
Yes then
Your setup looks awesome! but the first time I heard a Meyer sound system. I was absolutely blown away
This is legit content. Quite informative. Stay blessed.
