- Cover of Soundgarden's "Spoonman" now available on the "Lord of the Flies" EP from Amphetamine Reptile Records. Featuring Matt Cameron of Soundgarden/Pearl Jam doing double drums with Dale and Steven McDonald on bass.
Video directed / edited by Jesse Nieminen
Recorded by Toshi Kasai at Sound of Sirens studios
Funny...the Melvins influence bands...and then cover those bands songs.
Melvins and Soundgarden formed at around the same time. Think they influenced each other.
Even Motorhead covered bands that they influenced like Metallica.
Game recognizes game
True words.
Now you get it
Melvins have such a vast discography, it’s gravity pulls you in every once and again, once you get into Melvins, you will never have to worry about not having enough songs to listen to
Bonerific. Looking forward to the 87 minute Lustmord remix
"Boneriffic?" - oh, I'm totally gonna steal THAT phrase 😬 lol
Hell yeah. Love Lustmord. He responds to messages on FB if you ever want to talk to him.
This is now my favourite cover ever. Thank you Melvins.
I'm with you!
It's so legit.
Agree 100%
Instant Classic
Idk man Fuck Around is pure in its beauty and simplicity
Covers are risky. Not only did they capture the feel of the song but they made it their own. 10/10.
I’d argue that the Melvin’s ability to do covers was settled with “Goin’ Blind”.
@@beatsandskies2 and with they’re take on Into The Void and Sacrifice
@@beatsandskies2 And if there was ever any doubt, "I wanna hold your hand" sealed the deal.
this is incredible, what a perfect song for The Melvins to cover
Melvins*
@@devonm301 both are correct...
Melvins are criminally underrated. 🤘🏻♠️🤘🏻
Gorgeous True!!!!
That is their charm. If they were on the radio, I wouldn't listen to them.
@@scottsmith6643why?
Kickass!!!! Chris would be proud. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
The sub-3min, double drum version of Spoonman we never knew we needed
It is such a Melvins style of Spoonman . I'm in love with this Cover
I usually don’t find a gem like this until years after it’s uploaded.. glad I’m here
Melvins have just paid the ultimate respect to probably one of the best tunes by one of the best and important bands of my genres life time... very gracious lads, respect is a two way belief ✌️
That’s funny seeing The Melvins inspired Soundgarden NOT the other way around.
someone should tell that to buzzo eh
A classic band covering another.
Thanks for the great work, guys.
Theyre all friends still man , both bands,
@@puri3979 Fax. Without Melvins there would be no Soundgarden
@@ks5553 and possibly no Nirvana
and this is why the Melvins is one of my favorite bands (and Soundgarden, too)!
Mad respect!! You guys nailed this one !!
Buzz Osborne/Dale Crover, una dupla de otro planeta, les amo, saludos de Chile 🇨🇱🤘🔥❤️
I expected a slightly slower version of Spoonman with Big Bopper vocals, and that's exactly what I got.
Artis the Spoonman is a real person. The best spoons player ever. First saw him perform at a Grateful Dead show in Oregon in 82. Last time I hung out with him was at Hooverville around 2010. His favorite musicians are Sun Ra, Roland Kirk and Frank Zappa. A truly iconic individual 🤧👏
“When I was back in Seattle, I had the goddamn Spoonman from the Soundgarden videos coming to my sh*t”
- Kenny Powers
@@pdilla8395 HAHAHAHA
Artis is amazing.
Tbh even if someone with no talent at all listed that as his 3 favorite acts, I'd want to be his friend.
Superb cover.... Sounds like it should been on the the "stoner witch" album 🔥
always thought the Melvins' "brain center at whipple's" off hostile ambient takeover had a spoonman feel to it
all my friends are skeletons..... true story you can look it up and stuff.
I agree!
I bloody LOVE them. The one band that has remained a favourite of mine over the years.
The Melvins are the Slayer of grunge. Fitting band to cover such a badass song from the peak of Seattle-mania. I've found some amazing covers, just within the last month: Local H covering both "Shock The Monkey" and "2112/Temples of Syrinx. Gwar covering "West End Girls" and mixing in "People Who Died" as a tribute to their fallen leader. At this moment, the Melvins are at the top of the leader board. Best of all, this is not only a tribute to that scene and Soundgarden, but also the man Spoonman was written about. Aces!
Don't forget, the Melvins are the main band that inspired the underground 80s/ early 90s alt-rock sound.
@@lizerdspherex exactly. They were around longer than soundgarden, and even Temple of the Dog. It's great to see such a great band give respect to the younger generation like Soundgarden some respect 🤣
@@lizerdspherex the Melvins and Mudhoney!
@@lizerdspherex I'm pretty sure it's Neil Young and Crazy Horse. Even if it's not, Neil Young still was a huge influence on the grunge sound, which is why he's often called the Godfather of Grunge.
@@FratAsh Well, Temple of the Dog was only a one album thing in 1990, so naturally the Melvins are going to be around longer than them. They were a supergroup made in memorial of Andy Wood, that just happened to help introduce the world to Eddie Vedder. A better example would be Green River, which is often considered the first true grunge band, or even Mother Love Bone, which was essentially Pearl Jam with Andy Wood on vocals, rather than Eddie Vedder. The Melvins started before both of them, as well.
Honorable cover. Buzz’s voice sounds youthful and powerful👌🏻
Huge, we still got the intense drums of the original but this time with fat riffing provided by King Buzzo
Awesome! One of my favorite bands!
When Chris died they said that they wouldnt do a soundgarden Cover... But they did and its great
My favourite song of Soundgarden...and my favourite...
I don't usually like anyone touching Soundgarden songs but I liked this version. Great version, the big man himself would be proud.
Sick! Very cool take on the song!
I remember hearing this for the first time at the Chris Cornell tribute show and loving it!
I think we all needed this. Thank you, Melvins!
I had the good fortune to see the Spoonman perform at the Portland Saturday Market. He launched into "Baba O'Reilly." I saw the Who live while Moon was still alive. Nothing on God's green earth could have prepared me for the utter conviction and power of that performance. Within minutes a huge crowd closed around him. Wailing and flailing, clicking and clacking, he rendered that classic into a one man wildfire.
I left him a 5 in his hat and he gave me this story to tell. Rest Easy, Spoonman.
I love the way Melvins just killed the first and second chorus in the song...making their own arrangement.
Damn, this is a killer cover. 👍👍👍 Killer job, Melvins!!! 🤘🤘🤘
I learned this riff in 1995 when I was a Jehovah's Witness and there was a new recruit who played guitar and was impressed when I showed him how to play it. Holy crap I'm old now.
Will burn in hell
Awesome ! Hope yous didnt get disfellowshipped lol 😂😂😂 i was one too as a kid .. not of my choice 🤘
@@scott0111 yeah I got df'd in 2000 for refusing to stop associating with a df'd friend, but the real reason was apostasy, I didn't Believe their crap anymore. I wonder what ever happened to that friend.
Melgarden...Love it in 2022. Thanks!!
The guitar sound on this is incredible!
now that's what i would call by cover, nailed it
Sounds nice and funky,...the drumming is amazing as always🔥🔥🔥🔥
Funky?????? Ummmmm. Not quite..
Extremely cool cover of a song from one of my all time favorite albums ever
This is an awesome cover!
The best thing I have heard since the original !!
Absolute awsome , joining what i consider two of the loudest band in the known galaxy
Somebody has to play Chris's songs now. Love it. Rock lineage!
Wow! Just discovered this! Awesome! Bravo Melvins!
awesome- love the vox- main and backup- the backup harmonized are lovely!
Its an homage. Thanks Melvins.
I'll never listen to the original the same way knowing this banger of a tune is out there...somewhere.
AMAZING cover!!!
Awesome cover, fantastic video!
Truly good! Wish they covered it the full length of the Original but whatever it makes my head bang
The original is perfect so the rearrangement of this song is what I like about it. Gives it unique fresh take on the song.
Yeah
Buzz unironically an underrated vocalist
Wow just wow! Being a child that grew up in the puget sound area i parallel this with the perfection of the Jerry Garcia Band covering Bob Dylan. Stellar
Amazing cover. Thank you.
First time seeing / hearing this version. 👍 Have always loved the original and its video.
Brilliance all around. Thank you!
How am I just hearing about this??? I love when one of my favorite bands cover another favorite band's song
Oh hey this must be one of the best covers in music-history. wtf.. stunning
You must be new.

Thanks Melvins, thanks Matt Brazil loves Soundgarden and Melvins C.C forever #LoudLove.
Love this track !! Amazing cover !🤗
Damn I love the images. I had to stop because I really only like the first two albums by Soundgarden. I did live for their music at the time. It did enrich my life at the time.
Do a Matt Cameron and the Melvins album!!!
Sweet! I could never get into the original, this helps me.
🤣🤣🤣
This is a bad ass cover. Then again, I wouldn't expect less from them. I like how its played that little bit faster.
I like the way they rearranged the structure of the song so that it didn’t fit the typical pop sensibility of the original. Made the chorus sound more poignant by playing it only once towards the end. Love it
Pop? Really?
@@leeroden7900 I only say “pop” because a typical pop song structure would be verse, chorus, verse, chorus which is what the structure of the original song was.
Well pop means popular so…lol. I can honestly say that if this song was released by the Melvin’s it would not have been the hit it was by Soundgarden.
Great song, great tribute, great video. 🤘🥄🤘
The Melvin's are just on a whole nother level than Soundgarden!
As a huge soundgarden fan, i love this
This EP really sounds like the old Melvin’s again.
Fill me in....what new ep???
@@BOBANDVEG The 'Lord Of The Flies' 4 song EP
@@d80salive92 well....you seem to be of education.
What would you say is the "best melvins album" without filler. Filler being instrumentals and ambient tracks???
Please and thank you
@@BOBANDVEG Houdini and Stoner Witch are definitely my favorites but I also thoroughly enjoy (A) Senile Animal and Nude With Boots. I like many others and don't care for some others.
@@d80salive92 good picks. I'm gonna go with Bullhead or Lysol. But it's all very good, I enjoy that the Melvins keep changing things up. The Bulls and the Bee's EP was the last one I really liked a lot. They must release more material than any other band in Rock and Roll.
Tökéletes! Imádom...🤘🖤
VERY BAD ASS!!!! GOOD TO HAVE THIS BAND BACK!!! 👊🏼
Thank you, Melvins.
Theyve played that chaos shit for 50 years, all hail Andrew Wood Chris the Deep 6 and King Buzzo!!! Your the only one who can still do it!!

Wow! This is amazing.

Great cover!
Wow. That's Matt Cameron AND Dale Crover? Thank you for this gift
And here we are again ... Melvins doing a cover which is infinitely better than the original - best cover band ? With the exception of TG´s " Hamburguer Lady " I would say so .
Staying true to the original. Hell yeah🤘
Sounds great!
that is what I call A COVER... this is actually THE COVER!
The CROVER 😊
After the first three or four thousand times hearing this song.... If I never heard it again, it would be too soon.
That riff has such a fuckin groove! 🕺🏼

Sounds like a Melvin’s cover! I do miss Trevor Dunn but he’s busy
I love this because it’s different enough that I don’t need to choose a favourite version. Both are awesome but if I had to choose on pain of death it would be Soundgarden
