    if any one is experimenting with doing this themselves and wants to try different sizes. you can get a good idea of if the links you want to use are the right size by dividing the thickness of the wire by the thickness of the rod the wire was wrapped on. you want it to be around 2.5
    . the first chain in this video is a 5mm rod and 2mm wire which is 5/2=2.5
    . the second chain is 7.5mm rod and 3mm wire which is 7.5/3=2.5
    .the chain from the first video is a1.2mm wire on a 3.2mm rod which is 3.2/1.2=2.6
    thank you for the videos they were super help full and i had fun making one

      You're describing the Aspect ratio ( AR) of the jump rings used. Be careful though as Springback means that different metals produce different sized jump rings when produced in the same wire guage and formed around the same sized mandrel, so consistency in jump ring size is only guaranteed when you make your jump rings from one metal. If you're creating chain designs that use different metals together like bicolour and tricolour rope chains, make a test run of jump rings when the size of jump ring is critical to the design and measure the wire diameter and internal diameter of say 10 rings from each batch, as different size rings will affect the tightness of the finished chain. As you can see the smaller the Aspect Ratio, the tighter is the finished chain. Beginner chainmaille makers come across this issue when making, say for example, Byzantine chains, where there is only +/-0.3 tolerance in the AR for this particular pattern to produce it's sumptuous effect. Too tight and the chain will be harder to execute, and may be too stiff. Too loose and the pattern will not hold its shape, and the chain may not be as strong. Tight results look crisper and more professional.

      Somebody noted that he used jump rings with an aspect ratio of 2.5 or 2.6. You can get pdf tables from decent suppliers e.g. The Ring Lord in the US that list the ARs of the rings according to guage and ID. It has to be said that metric measurements makes AR easier to calculate than US AWG/Imperial, but good suppliers will list those equivalents. I'd try it out in copper first so that you can see what it may look like before going with anything expensive.

    Man I am surprised at how sturdy I THOUGHT the Rope chain was and really it's not.. It's not connected rather than soldered.
    Unlike a Cuban or curb or Hermes or anchor link chain where you just have a link attach to the next. The links on a rope chain aren't really connected as much as they are soldered together :/

    • @MadeByHuss
      @MadeByHuss  ปีที่แล้ว

      May be not as much as a Cuban but if the rope chain is solid it will be strong enough if you notice I solder both sides of the chain thank you for your input

      Rope chain has been made by hand and soldered for many many years without laser welders or other types of technology, the tech simply makes the manufacture faster

    what dimensions would you use for a mm chain (wire gage, diameter of links...), I love the look but don't want anything that big?

    • @BigHenFor
      @BigHenFor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you understand Aspect Ratio = Inner Diameter÷ wire diameter, you can choose from the wire thickness of your choice. Google "Aspect Ratio Calculator Chainmaille" and use one of the several available to find your ideal choice. Someone noted that Huss uses an aspect ratio of 2.5 or 2.6 in this design.
