There is an episode where they did a separation tornado attack but I can't remember which one though yes, in the SRW series, this is the first one to use that attack from the anime.
there was an episode or two where the enemy mecha disrupts their coudenji energy preventing them to volt in. That attack was made to destroy that weapon.
True...they also have the habit of appearing early, and never getting any sort of upgrade, while Mazinger Z gets replaced with Mazinkaiser, Strike gets replaced with Freedom, etc. You really gotta pile up the upgrades to keep Combattler up with the rest of the team, but I do it anyway, if only because it's just so stylish!
The Super Choudenji Bros. at their finest. I don't remember that version of Choudenji Spin that Combattler used before the regular one though... or Voltes' for that matter.
@ConkerfanX I think that its the best of the trilogy, it doesnt need 5 pilots to be piloted, and it had an awesome design. Well, theres always hope that they'll appear in the next one!
@Zetagreen19 That, and Combattler and Voltes are all around pretty good in general, at least in the portable ones. Not sure about any of the console ones aside from Alpha Gaiden.
@Zetagreen19 I liked Daimo too but I do like Combattler and Voltes in SRWs for the fact five pilots = five whole sets of Spirit skills to make shit easier, especially during levels where the enemy gets reinforcements 40000 times.
@screwtokaiba I actually bothered to upgrade them both though because I didn't bother to level units like Zeorymer or the gundam seed units on my first play through. So I found them pretty useful. It was just personal preference of mine really, though the spirit skill tank they both were was god like end game. That and I always thought the damage was pretty decent from when I upgraded them. Nothing compared to say Mazinkaiser or God Gundam end game though, but still decent.
@screwtokaiba My first run through personally consisted of me breaking the Mazinger bros, the G Gundam units, Tekkaman Blade and Rapier, and Lazyner. I've yet to actually try to go for super Zeorymer however but they themselves are strong enough to be any anchor on almost all end game teams for J. But the fact combattler did go unusable for several missions sucked though. Also fully upgraded boss borot is the best unit in the game.

@ConkerfanX I wont really consider FU BB as best unit tbh. its definitely one of the best, but not exactly.... best. TBH first playthrough i found the Zeo Mazin Grant + Nadesico line up Touya Route being the most effective. Zeorymer is strong at the get go, granteed is broken, Mazinger duo is broken, and you also get acess to Favorited Boss Borot which is cheap to assemble, and serve as a nice placeholder until Kaiser KS, Shin great and Dragon God G comes and broke the game even further.

As for Console, IIRC Alpha V is the only version that is considered great(coughcough AG 5 Seishin)

Zeorymer is still overall a better unit though. It can MAP grunts, comes early, and dont get gimped for 2/3 of the game(seriously, non Driver Arbalest sucks so much). As for damage, its not like Zeorymer is known for its damage dealing, which is where Mazinger excels on. DBF deals like 1,6 times more damage than Urzu and the Machinegun thing As a bonus, Mazinger has Two layer Pseudo Soul(Mazinpower + Valor + Fury)
