I have both and enjoy them immensely. They are the perfect trucks to take with you on the road for some spontaneous trailing adventures.
I've also talked with a gentleman on Facebook that is designing a skid with all parts needed to let you swap in the FMS two speed into a TRX4M.
I know you mentioned it before but I cant wait until you do a comparison on the new furitek truck and the cayman. I know cayman is more expensive but just curious about performance on the chassis and electronics. So many awesome minis to do comparisons on these days. Thanks for all the great info
Love my FCX 24s, I have three of the Blazers four of the power wagons the newest power wagon is the four-door orange. I love them a lot they become my favorite, the TRX4M I know I’m going to love it the detail looks awesome. Jim Wolf just got the brown one going to his house today Saturday to have some fun. Fantastic review. I really enjoyed the head to head aspect of your review. Not a lot of rc TH-camrs will do that. The traxxas looks awesome! I appreciate the effort FMS put in but I'll just upgrade my original Blazer and maybe look at getting the Traxxas for a fun project. No harm in having multiple brands.
Really appreciate that! I’m definitely not brand loyal to any certain brand so I just like what I like. The FMS is definitely a great truck but I just love the look of the Traxxas so much lol. I did stretch my black k5 blazer about 1-2mm ,removed the windows, added an interior and lowered it some and it made a huge difference in the looks.

Yo! The drag brake adjust is so easy on the FCX. Just dbl click Rev like you showed for the “mode”, then click one of the trim buttons. Bottom right is 100%.
Takes 5 seconds to adjust.

@@2fmrc ok, now I understand. I was wondering why your K5 had no drag brake in 2. gear. I touhgt I must double check my 10 FCX‘s because I felt for sure the drag brake was working also on 2. gear but of course little less than in first gear….

Truly glad to see good experienced reviews of the HT.
Decision maker for me is that Trax does not support the hobby at large, won't be at events or get together's; FMS is at least trying to support the hobby.

I love my FCX24's so much! However the looks on the Traxxas is just too good! I wish they would make kit versions of both so we could paint the body's in our own styles. Hopefully Traxxas releases the ranger as well!
They should have made narrower straight axles for this fcx24. It would have allowed them to make the body more narrow and have much better proportions. Then I’d, hands down, pick the fcx24 as it’s smaller and has all the goodies. (And now a more proportionate body)
Im enjoying my K10, I did change motor/esc, added crawl gears, wheels with brass rings still stock tires and lowered it a few mm.
I'm thinking if the FXC24 had the wheelbase of the TRX4M, you could have the perfect performer. If mounting the Traxas body to the FCX can be sorted, could make for a pretty rad rig.
I did not pick this jewel, but I did pick one up from fms, the all black version.

I think the k5 looks better with the cap, the pickup option seems like an afterthought. Now the trx4m k10 fills the bill for the pickup.
I like it without the cap, but Blazer style, with the rear of the cab cutout and a printed rear seat in the bed...it really should have come that way from the factory instead of the pickup option.
They are pretty much correct proportions per model. From what i remember the K5 was always shorter and the K10 had a obviously longer bed. Had a buddy with a k10 with a k5 shell. Had space to the tail gate.

Great comparison Matt. I have been debating on which one to get as my next crawler. I am leaning towards the Traxxas, mainly for the looks. I really like my FCX24 Power Wagon but I have been wanting a square body truck and the longer wheel base and details of the TRX4M have sold me on the Traxxas.
Yeah I think both are great trucks and the fcx is better in most ways. The looks of the Traxxas and long wheel base really sell it for me though. You can also stretch the k5 1-2mm like I did my black one and it makes a huge difference in the looks imo. Plus keeps the stock body. But it just looks best as a blazer imo and the Traxxas is the way to go for a pickup.
I totally agree with everything. Ive got a brushless fms k5, a brushless all metal drivetrain trx4m defender, and a Trx4m high trail with only a holmes brushed motor and injora wagon wheel steelies with brass rings. The high trail can climb some stuff that the heavily modded defender can't get up
FMS for price and performance.Traxxas for the looks.

My FMS Blazer has upgrades & is heavy especially in front I think it feels the way it does because of the wheelbase as you pointed out & the bodies although look great are heavy & oversized for the short chassis.
I got the limited edition black one, so I'll be upgrading it. I looked at both but I picked the Trax. I DO hate the whole battery and esc system though. With ya there.
I love my FCX 24s but I would love to have this TRAXXAS that blue looks beautiful. But right now my main priority is my rat rod that I’m building so my money is a little tied up. Sure appreciate you sharing as always I’ll catch you on the next one until then peace and chicken grease 😁🤙🤙😎

I really enjoy all your content of comparing the difference of vehicles. I have a 82 K10 & 86 C10 and the traxxas is perfect proportion of the real thing. My buddy turned his K5 into a pickup by removing the topper and putting the rear window section on it & the FCX proportions looks the same. Keep up great content. 😎
i didnt see a lot of aftermarket for the fcx compared to what i have found for my trx4m i kind of wanted one though now i am not sure

Well, I’m going to be that guy. Since Traxxas pulled it’s last stupid stunt I’m not even considering their products anymore. Even if it’s the best out there I’m probably not gonna buy one. I too along with several others do not like the short wheelbase. As always, great video and thanks for the information and comparison.
K5 needs to keep it's canopy on, doesn't look good without it. The Traxxas does look better, but I hate that company...
On the K5 Way Cool Mod I used black monokote decal material and made faux a rear window, looks much better.
IMO, the Traxxas body would look a lot better if it was painted rather than molded plastic. Probably just me, but seeing light coming through molded plastic gives it a “cheap” feel I have a hard time getting past. But yeah, I see what you’re saying about the other details. And unless you take the time to correct the FCX wheelbase to match the fenders, the Traxxas has a more proper scale feel out of the box.
Traxxas made the right choice for the majority of owners. A color molded body hides scratches and nicks and stays looking good through heavier use. That was the point. They're selling these trucks to be driven. But asthetically, I agree with you.
I painted the inside of my K10 black also did the bed, it definitely made it look 100% better.
Is the side mirror broken? The first time it was overturned, the side mirror of the TRX4M Ford broke immediately.

Purchased both of these in the last 2 weeks and the ( mine was the orange and white k5 blazer) and I got the trx4m f150 ranger and the fcx broke in 3 minutes of run time due to a small weed wrapping around the rear axel and snapped the rear drive shaft. The only thing that was cooler than the Traxxas was the fcx 2 speed gear box 💯
Does your k10 have sticker side trim?
High Trail all the Way for looks just need upgrades. I got a battery adapter to run a normal battery from E bay.
Yea these lifted trucks really really benefit from tons of wheel weight. Boom racing makes a brass beadlock ring with lead weights that can add over a pound to 10th scale rigs all in the wheel, as low as possible. Something like that would be killer for these small guys
XD yes indeed! they are 2 different trucks! the actual chevy k10 pickup vs the k10 blazer. i love the fcx24 but i really don't like the hardware size.

While i do love my Traxxas rigs, every RC company has its pros and cons. Enjoy them all.
The disadvantage of the trx4m is that the battery is placed behind the motor, while the fms places the battery in front. Better car balance
what about the FMS K5Blazer..? how would you think it performs against those?
Much better than the Traxxas on slow crawl and wheel speed also when in high. With some weight down low it’s really good but it definitely needs some weight since it’s a shorter wheelbase with the weight of the body up high.

My Stock 87 k5 blazer is on 33s and I don't want to lift it but my 84 K10 is on 40s and 1-tons just like the high trail

In all honesty the max smasher with crawler tires would be a better comparison as far as body and wheelbase imo
I’m right with you on the traxxas Glad to see them in this segment but the proprietary connectors, batteries and chargers are so outdated! I think they do have something to offer but they just need to get in where they fit in! They been trying to make the rc community bend to their knee but it doesn’t work!!! Yet they keep doing it.
I like the C10 much better and think that with the crawler gears and Injora engine you gain in terms of driving behavior.

With the gears the crawl becomes smoother, and with the Injora engine you get the speed almost completely back.

So I wasn’t trying to say the K5 should be the exact same length as the K10. I know they are different. One is supposed to be a truck. The other is a blazer lol. All I meant was the K5 proportions are out of whack. It needs to be extended 1-2mm to look better imo. I extended my black one by installing 50mm scx24 links front and rear and it looks much better while keeping the K5 body. That’s what they should’ve done with this in the beginning rather than using the same Power Wagon chassis which was pretty short for that body as well lol. Gearing is much better out of the box. The Traxxas is geared to trail for sure. It don’t have great torque.

Hey Matt, I need some of your expertise. Can you tell me what the little orange button above the start button actually does? .. on the promoto. After I put the carbon fiber frame plates on . Something strange happened. Now, when I go through the start-up sequence . Everything works . It steers . The front brake works . And the drive motor works . But when I turn on the switch for the flywheel, I can hear the motor start up . But it will not spool up now . I was very careful with all the wires when putting it back together. Made sure none were cut or pinched . And everything is plugged into the receiver the right way. So nothing changed, but the carbon fiber plates. And it worked perfectly before. Now it won't spool up . Do you have any thoughts on this ? Please if anyone else reads this and has any suggestions please let me know . Thank you

Hmmmm that’s odd for sure. The small set button is for programming the esc without a program card. Using the manual to follow the beeps etc. Wouldn’t think that would have caused the issue. Did you make sure the ground for the receiver was bolted back down? Maybe try pulling the flywheel apart? Sounds like it’s not making good contact or something. I’ve hooked them up without the rotor and you can hear the motor start up and nothing happens. Then once you place the rotor on it and it makes a good connection it will start to turn. Possibly something got between them or something shifted? Try a rebind on the transmitter? Mine has acted up and I did a rebind and it worked again. Other than that I’m not sure honestly. Sorry I’m no help.
@2fmrc I will try the ground because I did have to move it . Because it used to be mounted to the metal frame plate . I moved it to a hole that is aluminum, but maybe because of the lock tight, it's not making a good connection. I will take it apart if that doesn't work . Thanks for your thoughts. @@think2cre81 definitely also try the rebind. I think mine did that once and even though everything else was working the rebind solved it. Keep me updated for sure!
@@2fmrc oh also how do I set the end points on the steering servo . I bought that module that plugs in on top of the transmitter. But it's still in the package. I'm not too confident in my skills in that area . Can I do it with the module and the app . Or do I need to buy that other thing you had that plugs into the wire behind that front cover . On the promoto.
I'm sorry, Matt. I have this so screwed up. Now, nothing works, lol 😆 ... how do I bind this receiver with the transmitter? Please explain every detail. And write slowly. I'm a slow reader lol 😂
Should be able to hold down the button on the receiver while turning the bike on. It’ll start to flash. Then hold the bind button on the transmitter while you turn it on. May take it a few seconds but it should bind up. I’ve had to do it several times before because they just didn’t seem to bind.
@2fmrc Thanks for the help, Matt . I did figure out how to bind it . I didn't realize that the bind button on the receiver was hidden , with the logo . It took me a while to see it . But honestly, Matt, you should make a video on what happened to my flywheel. And why it would not spool up . But I could still hear the stater motor come on . Because I have heard other people online complain of the same issue and just purchase a new one . I was ready to buy a whole new unit myself. But I decided to find out why . so then I pulled out the stater and tried spinning the flywheel with my finger. It would not turn easily. So I split the cases in half that hold the flywheel . And as soon as I did, the half that the flywheel was sitting in had dropped out a small plastic disc onto my work mat . It was about 1 mm thick by about 4 mm wide. Very small . But now the flywheel was spinning freely with just a touch of my finger . I knew right then that it was the small plastic debris that was stopping my flywheel from spinning freely. So I wanted to find out where it came from . And I noticed that when I held it up to the light that one of the 3 mounting holes 🕳 I could see all the way through. And the other 2 holes I could not see through. But I could see that they too had plastic covering that was about to break off . So I took my dremal tool with a small flat ended bit and took off the small plastic flap I'll call it . Where the 3 flat head mounting screws go through counter sunk holes in the frame plate that hold that flywheel housing in place on the side with the start button is on . Those screws are the right length, but they will hit the bottom that has thin plastic over the inside. I believe that when I changed to the carbon fiber frame, plates that either the counter sunk holes are slightly deeper or I tighten them just a little too tight and then end of the screws break that thin plastic covering off and it falls in between the housing and the flywheel and causes the flywheel to not spin freely. I believe everyone should pull theirs apart and get rid of the plastic that covers these 3 screw hols . So they can avoid damaging their stater from having it bind the flywheel. Hopefully, you can see this in your minds eye Matt from my description. I was so close to ordering a whole to pre-built flywheel and stater. I'm so glad that the small black ⚫️ plastic disc fell onto my sky, blu work mat and not onto the carpet where I couldn't see it . Or I am not sure I would have solved the mystery of why my flywheel would not spool up . Hopefully, Matt, this helps a lot of people or just one frustrated one like myself . But if it happened to me , it happened or will happen to others . So, I believe it's worth making a short video on your platform to reach those who have had this issue and gave up . Or those that it's about to happen to . With just a short amount of time to remove that plastic before it breaks off . Will solve future issues. Stay cool 😎

Great review the only problem i have here is your comparing a 1/24th scale blazer to a 1/18th scale k10. It’s not really a fair comparison even for the body. FMS has a 1/18th k10 to compare bodies and detail with.
Yeah I mean the fcx24 is actually more 1/18 anyway but they are two different body types. The k5 just looks out of shape to me. Same as the lemur and power wagon lol. They just need to be a couple mm longer.
I agree that the blazer looks a little wide. But for the price it’s the best blazer you can find. You should do a comparison between the 2 k10’s. I can’t find a comparison video anywhere. The fms doesn’t come with portals so it would be kind of interesting how they compare against each other.
@@mitchkling1430 there’s not much of a comparison there honestly. The fms k10 is so long it’s more like a 1/14 scale and it is 100% a trail rig. It don’t like to go over much of anything lol. I love the looks of it but I never even run mine just because it high centers on everything. I do agree the blazer is a great deal though. Especially for someone wanting the 2 speed etc.

Both trucks are good. I have the original Fcx24 power wagon and just didn't enjoy the short wheelbase, it's better when extended. I like the chassis layout on the traxxas and the longer wheelbase. My Trx4m Bronco with some added weight is an amazing performer for a scale rig! I think with a few basic mods the Hightrail will be awesome fun!
Traxxas can pound sand. Now that being said they have some great looking cars but I’ll take Tamiya, Kyosho old school over their products. The FCX24 is a great little rig just wish they would bring a 1:24 CJ out

How can you stretch the wheelbase on the k5?
I stretched my black one 1-2mm and it made a huge difference in the looks. Just using some threaded bottom links.

@@therealcletusrc no it actually fit a bit better imo. Just doing the slight stretch and lowering a bit made a huge difference.
Both are winners . I like old looking real life trucks . Rust is cool , both need weathering .

What would you pick if you could only buy 1 trx4m high trail /way cool k5 or the new furitek rtr?. I know the furitek power wagon is kinda ugly compared to the Traxxas or fcx but it looks like a real performer compared to the Traxxas and fcx .i have 2 fcx24 power wagons and max smasher and cr18p

A k5 isn’t a truck so it don’t have. Truck bed. The wheelbase is shorter therefor it would be better getting over stuff. That’s why keep

The k5 still needs to be a bit longer to look correct imo. It’s just a tad short. I stretched one a couple millimeters and it totally changed the look. Also helped the performance quite a bit when combined with a little weight down low.
THE FMS model is very wrong in terms of shape, the cabin is very inaccurate. TRX is very well shaped model
Keep in mind one is BLAZER and the other is PICK UP. if you look at 1:1 vehicles the BLAZER is SHORTER.

dude its a blazer, of course its shorter. the difference is probably close to irl. also just like a real blazer, when you take off the rear cap, it just looks weird. put it back on, it looks 100 times better👍🏽
No way?! Had no idea lol. When you stretch the blazer 2-3mm with some longer links it just looks much better. The wheelbase on it is just a tad too short. The body is almost as wide as it is long. It’s just proportioned very oddly. I know it’s not the exact same as the Traxxas but it just don’t seem like it’s proportioned well to me. They tried to cram a larger body on the same short wheelbase. Either they should’ve made the body a tad smaller or the wheelbase a bit longer imo.
Fcx is cooler looking, it’s a blazer is why the wheelbase is shorter compared to the long bed.. Never seen a crawler crawl is high before..😂
Yeah it still needs 1-2mm stretch on it & to be slightly more narrow imo to really look true to scale. I stretched one of my other K5s a tiny bit and it looks much better. Just overall the proportion seems to be all out of whack for me.

It's an apples to oranges comparison. A Blazer does not have the wheelbase of a pickup truck. I owned one. It isn't even as long as a short bed. But I do agree that the Traxxas looks to be better detailed. They should have painted the body though. Y'all want a pickup? Buy a pickup. You looking for a Blazer? Buy a Blazer. :)
Very true! Blazer def looks better with the top on I think. Really just comparing because of the price range. Only removed the top and accessories because it really didn’t perform too well with that stuff installed.

@@2fmrc yeah we had a blast last night, but my LC 80 busted the front pinion gear, I was driving through one of the caves that he has on his course, the roof rack was hung up and I heard a crack thought I drop One of the Drive shaft, but when the Output shaft came out with the driveshaft with no gear Yep sure had a blast though I didn’t win the trophy better luck next time
trx4m, if you don't buy accessories or balance the wheels, climbing will be inferior to fms.
tell me you don't know K series chevy's without telling me you don't know K series chevy's lol The K blazer is shorter than a K10 truck IRL. So they are both to scale, minus traxxas is lifted and big tire. True scale is the original from FCX blazers. the Black / brown / Orange. Otherwise You cant really lose having the custom FCX K5 shown here and the traxxas K10.
I know that but if you look at the K5 it’s too wide and a bit short. If you stretch it 1-2mm it looks way better. I did it with one of the first ones I got and it looks much better. The proportions are just all out of whack imo. Looks goofy until you make some mods to it. Obviously they aren’t the same truck. Just saying the Traxxas seems to be proportioned better for what it’s supposed to be. If fms hadn’t tried to just make another body fit the same exact wheel base of the power wagon and changed it just a tiny bit it would’ve been perfect. Kinda like Traxxas did. Both are great trucks though. Just wish they had put a little more detail into the k5 after seeing the k10.

Yeah it still needs to be slightly longer. The body just seems huge for the wheelbase. Stretching it 1-2mm makes a huge difference in the looks. I did it with one of my others. You got plenty brass under that wheelchair?! Lol
