Hey Guys, I Don't Count The Spurs, No One Does. With that said how bad do we wish he stayed on the Raptors?! What would have happened if Grant Hill wasn't injured?/Yao Ming Thoughts and Opinions? - MIKE
One of my favorite players, faced a lot of injuries to him and teammates. Very unlucky career but he made the hall of fame, and that shows how great he was.

It was his only season on the spurs where he played 6 games the entire playoffs and averaged 5 garbage time minutes a game. He clearly said playoff series where he was relevant

My childhood was ruined by that Grant Hill injury. I was 8 when the Magic got Mac and Hill and I spent the next four years learning to accept what being a Magic fan is like.
0:55 you said that the Spurs is the only time he made the 2nd round. However, everyone forgets, Yao Ming lead the Rockets to the 2nd round in 2009 AND took the lakers to 7 games while Tmac was on the roster. Tmac was injured during the playoffs but he helped them win some regular season games to get to the 4 seed (or 5th seed). So, he contributed more to that playoff run than the one with the Spurs. I just looked up his stats for curiosity, did u know he didn't score a SINGLE POINT on the spurs😅?
Aaron Young yeah but in the 6 games he played , in about 5 minutes per game so 31 minutes couldn’t he have scored 1 point? It would’ve been a nice end to his career if he got a bucket in the finals.
I would kill to see Kobe and Mac and bron and wade Durant in the 80’s 90’s era Jordan goin against players on his level would made some crazy match ups Fr
He got outplayed by Baron Davis in the 2002 playoffs series (Charlotte Hornets vs Orlando Magic) McGrady was a choker who underperformed when his team needed him most
1. frequent injuries to himself and/or his best teammate (hill/yao) 2. during his "prime" in orlando, he ran into an emerging pistons team (who went to dominate the east until boston and lebron happened)
Mike you should do a video about arvydis Sabonas he has a story similar to Yao Ming but a lot worse he was drafted in 86 but didn’t come to the nba for a decade because the Soviet Union wouldnt let him he played for Lithuania in a Soviet Union basketball tournament and beat the Moscow team whose coach also coached the national team and as revenge he forced sabonas to never take a break from basketball putting massive wear on his body and he eventually tore his Achilles at 27 and never fully recovered when he joined Portland the doctors said he could qualify for a handicapped parking spot from how beat up his body was he has a really interesting career and if he could have come to the nba sooner he could have been an all time great
You should do a video on how the NBA modified its rims and balls throughout the modern NBA era to help shooters. I have yet to watch a video on any channel analizying these changes
I think you may be over-rating the quality of the role players in his Magic and Rockets stops. Houston was relying essentially on Battier and Rafer Alston for secondary scoring. The team sorely lacked any secondary creation, no bench initiators, and played two-non shooting bigs at all times. The Rockets always seemed to lose on offense, and I think the lack of secondary creators was a more of a driving force in the teams disappointments than McGrady's clutch performances.
Let us not forget TMac played for Doc "blown series" Rivers. Also he was the only threat on his team so defenses loaded up on him, he still had some bad games tho no doubt
What pains me is the Mavs series where we lost by 40, Tim D... name I dont want to mention, came out and said it was one of his big fix games during that time. I still sucks cause that team was special. Injuries derailed Tmac and Yao from being more dominate. I still loves those teams... esp the year we beat Portland (I was at Game 6 :) ) and we lost to the lakers once Yao went down w the foot injury. Still amazing memories for a college kid at the time.
TMac once said in an interview that he wasn't able to distinguish between man to man and zone defenses. He said this as an NBA player. This statement more than anything should help anyone understand why his career went the way it did.
T-mac was my favorite player growing up. He didn't make it out the first round because the organizations he was a part of sucked at getting a good supporting cast around him.
I haven’t seen this video yet. But I’m gonna say it outright. Tmac was not a good playoff performer. He usually performed considerably worse in the playoffs compared to the regular season
He actually was great in the playoffs. His supporting cast sucked. When guys like Scott Padgett start for your playoff team you know you're in trouble.
The stats don't back that up though. You can point to specific crunch time moments that were not good, but overall his playoffs stats were insane and on par with his regular season. Honestly, it was so frustrating watching the Rockets in the playoffs in those years where Yao got injured. They wasn't a single guy other than TMac that could create a shot. The rockets only stayed in games because they were one of the best defensive teams in the league. But I remember this one playoff game against the Jazz, where non-Tmac rocket players scored only 2 FGs in a half.
What about the time they Almost had Tim Duncan? What if T-Mac got traded to play with A.I in 2001? What if T-Mac the Lakers trade for T-Mac on draft night? What if The Bulls trade for T-Mac on draft night? He has so much
Magic was supposed to have T-Mac with GHill and TD. However, GHill had a nagging injury which was misdiagnosed by a doctor. While Pops and the San Antonio faithful begged and fought for TD to stay. You can just wonder whether the 3 of them could have won a championship together for the Magic. Damn!
In that hornets series you gotta mention how clutch baron davis was. He came up BIG even on a game winner that didn’t count, then that game went into overtime and the hornets still won
WITHOUT Watching the video it's easy 1. Grant Hill's ankles 2. Doc botched the tim duncan signing 3. Awful orlando supporting cast 4. Yao chronically injured 5. Tmac constantly injured in houston 6. Rockets supporting cast besides yao god awfujl
You should’ve talked a bit about Yao’s production in each Houston series. Yao played great in 2005 against Dallas and was extremely efficient shooting 65%, he should’ve gave the ball to Yao more . However you should cut tmac some slack in 2007, since in game 7 it was Yao Ming who choked. He missed 2 jumpers down the stretch and gave up 2 offensives boards to Mehmet okur and boozer. Yao choked in 2007, not tmac. Yao was the best player on that team and he should’ve led Houston to the next round.
T-Mac single-handedly lowered tf out of the bar for hall of fame careers.
