      I'm making a game myself I'm rather impressed how easy it can be to start but also I can see the infinite depth of how hard you can make it for yourself depending on a million factors. What's the first physical step would you say to producing or publishing a game besides making the game and funding? Start an LLC, copyright your idea?

      The first level seemed somewhat generic in gameplay, however the addition of the crane in the second level really helped ramp things up, the sharp increase in pace combined with the sudden feeling of being little a mouse to these monsters genuinely added to the senses of dread, panic and terror, the difference from level 1 to level 2 really made it feel like you had to get out, the increased chaos created more urgency to escape.

    I feel like Ollie's game was totally slept on in favor of safer, more polished ones. I think especially in the earlier weeks, ambition should be considered a lot more in the voting process. Because sure, potato's game was well made and polished from the start, but that kind of game is always going to be a slam-dunk due to its simplicity. I think risk-taking and experimenting with new ideas and concepts should be encouraged more.

      @crambunxious9269 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +31

      I don't think it was slept on, I think it was just lacking in polish and effort. Overall, puzzle games are almost always unique, presenting a new idea or method to do fun things, but the biggest problem with them is making the puzzles actually fun. Ollie had an interesting and unique idea, but his execution, effort and polish wasn't good enough. I do agree with your opinions on risk-taking and experimenting, though.

      I think that the judges would probably agree with you, which was why Ollie made it to the second round. But even after making it to the second round, it still had issues with polish, while everyone else’s were starting to get into a legitimately playable state, which is why I think it’s fair that he didn’t make it to the finals.
      With that being said, his game had a lot of charm, and it looked really fun. I’d like to see it develop into a full, proper game.

    Wishbone did better. He made an entire game. Potato really forgot about his main idea and completely turned the game into another random arcade wave shooter. Yes, potato had more polish, but his game was way way smaller and simpler.
    Wishbone deserved to win this one.

    • @IncoherentSchizo
      @IncoherentSchizo 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +76

      Agreed. Potato's game was good but in the end it just kinda felt like another survivors-like shooter with minimal progression. It's better for replay ability but it wasn't really as original, and he had no real audio in the first round. I'm honestly surprised he got through the first round with an entire aspect of the game missing, but I suppose his polish in the first round was pretty impressive.
      I think the two horror games were my favourites, even though the car game was kinda derivative, since he had a plan for adding more complex levels.

    I personally did like Wishbone's game more. I found DaFluffyPotato's game way too chaotic and hard to even watch.
    And that's coming from someone that loves roguelites and doesn't like horror games.
    That left aside, I think neither of them did really win the theme. I think Mashup Games is the one that really won the "Strange Machines" theme.
    P.S. Wishbone, I love your game. But if I were you, I'd add a random lightning event that would let you easily see everything for a brief moment. It could create very scary scenarios where you are walking in a dark path and the lightning shows you that the Wendigo is just in front of you.

    • @DreadKyller
      @DreadKyller 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Love the lightning idea, a good idea accomplishes many things at once, and that adds ambience, allows for people to see landmarks through the dark periodically which helps navigation but doesn't trivialize it, and it presents opportunities for very scary scenarios. Might even be interesting to add a risk-reward system to it, like the location the lightning struck may hold something useful, but also attracts attention of dangerous enemies.

    For the USB game, part of the concept of a USB is to hold information which doesn't seem to be part of the game yet. But what if there were 3D printers in different rooms. Part of what is on the USB is the data to print different parts that you can then also plug into. There can also be a factor where the size of the USB limits how many files you can carry. But there can also be upgrades to the USB storage capacity by either just make it larger because you found a thing or through a mechanic like zip files etc

    Super interesting how when he got "Pick your Poison" it was a bad thing. Totally feel this, sometimes being forced into an idea you don't fully love is better than having infinite ideas because the decisions and choice of picking something wrong can stop your progress a lot, or have you annoyed the whole time / regret it if you pick the wrong idea / theme.

      It was an interesting direction he decided to go with it. I personally felt "pick your poison" was actually one of the better options he could have landed on. The core gameplay was about picking which parts to upgrade your usb bot with to complete each level. Would have liked to see that incorporated into level design and/or puzzles which could be easier or harder depending on which parts you chose to go with. Either way, I hope he continues the project to flesh out the creative idea of the core game.

Like every week, each dev presents their game and the judges give them points based on that week's development. And then at the end of the 3 threes, you have a winner for best game (with the most points overall), but also you can tell how each dev improves the game per week...

    I seriously wanted how Ollie’s game would look and feel if he had been chosen to continue to the next round but I understand how the others had a better chance than him

    This one was a tough one, all devs really made such an amazing job. I would like seeing more of this kind of competition !
    tho I knew from the start fluffy or wishbone where going to be the finalists, idk, is just something about them that makes them stand out

    Wishbone is a terror whenever they get added to one of these gamedev challlenges

    Prediction: Wishbone will be a huge success, covered by dozens of TH-camrs. The other one, is just another 2d shooter with pixel art, no one will remember that in a week.
