Thank you for this review, this is one pen that is calling my name. As I get older, I find that small pens make my hand cramp.

You're welcome. Such a comfy pen, if you prefer the larger size

Straight from japan prices on ebay for these and my favorite pen, the pilot custom heritage 912 are insanely cheap.
Pelikan m800 on ebay brand new from japan for under 400 is amazing.
They aren't faked pretty much ever, so no worries there.
I love the m800 and I have pretty giant hands. No trouble using an m1000, just like the everyday usefulness of the m800 nib. Not as soft, but still nice. Not as wet, but still lovely. Its a workhorse for me, like the custom heritage 912.
Both pens come in tons of nib options.
Look at the 912 nib options. Unreal

Very nice. I'm recently getting back into Pelikan. Despite my proclivity for both large pens and large nibs, I actually found the M1000 to be a bit too bouncy for my writing style and ended up selling it. Of course meaning to take nothing of your positive experience. And luckily the M800 and even the M600 work quite well for my writing style. I will add that I'm a bit let down by the lack of transparency in the barrels these days; so it goes.

I think the barrel translucency would be the only thing I would change. That said, it's not a deal breaker for me. I had an M600 to stay for a couple of weeks but, unfortunately, it is a bit on the thin side for me. A shame, as there are some nice finishes in the 600 range. I'm keeping an eye out for an M805 Stresemann at preset.....

@@SantiagoPens1759 I agree with you on the M600's being a bit too small, I sold my only example, more of a pocket pen for me. There are so many great special editions of the M600.

@@SantiagoPens1759. >>> me too! I like the back story on the pin stripe suit significance and how that is the way it got its name. Love the quality and detail of the nib. Makes all the difference. Joe M. From Kansas City.

You certainly didn't bore us at all. It's always a pleasure to hear someone who's thrilled with their fountain pen. The M1000 is really a thing of beauty, and just like you, I had it on my wishlist for quite some time. I was about to go for the green stripe version, although the recent redesign and the lack of translucency of the barrel irritates me a little bit. But yesterday I stumbled upon the special edition Pelikan have just announced, called "Renaissance Brown". And I thought to myself "well, since neither the green or the brown has an ink window, I'd rather pick the most collectible of the two, even though it's pricier". So I preordered the M1000 in that gorgeous "Renaissance Brown" finish. The production run should begin shortly, and they say the pens are going to come in within two months from now, so I'm super excited to receive mine. And while I'm waiting for it to arrive, I watch TH-cam reviews, hahah ! Thank you for a good moment, you got yourself a solid and beautiful writer !

      Thanks for the kind words!
I've seen the new Renaissance Brown, and it looks very sexy! I considered it briefly, but it's beyond my current budget. I'm also more than happy with mine, so I've turned my sights to some different lustings 😂.
Ideally, I'd love the barrel to be translucent, but I can live without it. I have other piston fillers without a window, it's not a dealbreaker for me. I hope you enjoy yours when it arrives!

Dear Dan,no need to apologize for your enthusiasm towards such a great pen. I could tell that Bill shares that sentiment.
The M1000 nib is a bit intimidating to me; and,I don't really prefer soft, squishy, bouncy nibs. Having watched many excellent reviews of Pelikan fountain pens,I feel like the M805 is the one I will aim for. Would that I could get to a pen show to try one out.
You mentioned that the M1000 is in your top two;is the second one your ONOTO Black Rosetta?
I think ink windows are a bit over-rated. I wouldn't miss it on such a pen.
    Thank you for the review.

Thanks for the lovely comment! Yeah, the Rosetta Black would be up there. I must confess I do like a soft nib!
I think the 800 series is a good fit for many people. I'm keeping an eye out for one myself, at a good price

The M1000 is a nice pen, I have the translucent green, I prefer Pelikan's translucent striped pens, but the new pens are also nice looking. I have large hands and actually prefer writing with my M800's. The M1000's nib is very soft, I think you likely made the correct choice choosing the fine nib as these nibs write a broader line due to the softness of the nib and the ink flow. It would be nice if Pelikan began putting an ink window on the non translucent barrels, they did so on the M805 Metal Stripes and it really helps. I am happy that you are so pleased with your pen. Pelikan pens are the largest part of my collection and I really enjoy them.

I would prefer a translucent barrel, given the choice, but it doesn't bother me much. The nib is the star of the show for me. I'm certainly looking to add an 800, at some stage, which is also a good size for me. Thanks for the lovely comments! 😊

Nice review. Wondering how it compares to the onoto magna, which is similar in price (maybe slightly higher depending on which one)

    • @SantiagoPens1759
      @SantiagoPens1759  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The standard Magna Classic would come in cheaper, with the steel nib. With the gold nib upgrade, they would be comparable in price. I'll put it this way, I'd hate to have to choose between them! Both quality workmanship and beautiful writing experience. It would probably come down to personal taste and feel in the hand etc. A standard Magna also is a cartridge converter, as opposed to the piston of the Pelikan, but that doesn't bother me personally. Easier cleaning!

I've had my M1000 for a while and have pushed the nib for sure. The M1000 nib will surprise you as this nib is sturdier than you might think. Bottom line, enjoy that nibm, and don't be afraid to push it!!!

I would not post this pen, unfortunately with all pelikans the cap scratches the barrel, you'll notice that in a few months even just capping the pen. Sucks but it's a design flaw

I guess the pen is ok. But Mr Reviewer need to learn how to write with it and maybe beef up a little on the knowledge side of things. No disrespect intended but seriously, its M 1k, it demands an effort in putting nice letters and a blank new sheet of paper. However for me this vi was useful to see the line width on so called F as I am swinging between F and EF, damn!

It’s just a pen, so maybe some people don’t care about what a _pen_ “demands” so they use it however they would normally use a pen because… wait for it… it’s just a pen. A fancy pen, but a pen nonetheless. No disrespect intended but seriously, it’s still just a pen.
