Shearer was an amazing penalty taker, Euro 96 v Holland, vs Spain, and against Germany: All dispatched brilliantly. World Cup 98, 2 against Argentina, one in normal time, and one in the shootout. A true legend.
"Last entry of the Gladiator." That is the best line of commentry i have ever heard. I am a Mansfield Town fan, and was at the FA Cup game where he equalled the record. He was my first ever favourite player. I'm still proud to say I was there when he equalled Milburn's record. I stood up and applauded him too. Alan Shearer, Englands greatest ever footballer. You are sorely missed.
An Arsenal fan, I saw Alan a few times at Highbury against that formidable Gunners defence, what a striker, so brave, won aerial balls he had no right to. I’m privileged to say I saw him play.
I'm not a geordie, or an English man. I'm not even European, infact I'm not even from earth! Now if I say shearer was a legend do I get more bonus points than you???
Great sportsmanship from the opposite side. Let's be honest the keeper wasn't going to let it go in so a lot of pressure on that penalty. As a life long Blackburn rovers fan I was glad to see it go in. There is no such thing as a one man team and shearer would certainly agree but without his goals I would never have got to see my home town club win the league (I know the money heled at the time but that's another debate) I worked on the turnstiles at Blackburn and seen highs and lows but I must point out the gerdie away fans were passionate but above all on the whole were funny and great to get along with compared to other away fans I could mention. SHEARER. True legend for both clubs.
It's a shame that he had to kinda pearoll it to make sure it went in. I'd love to of seen 1 more Shearer netbreaker! Although I don't blame him he probably felt a hell of a lot of pressure taking that kick even with nothing on the line!
Brings a tear to my eye. What a great way to end a great career. He wouldn't have had that fantastic atmosphere if he had signed for man utd instead of newcastle.
What a random vid to pop up in my feed. My ex girlfriend was a massive Shearer/Newcastle fan and we were at this game, same weekend as the Liverpool v West ham FA Cup final too if memory serves.
Some questions: 1. Is a Testimonial something like a last Friendly Match ("Abschiedsspiel")? 2. Why did he came into the Match for only one Minute? 3. Why was Celtic chosen as opponent? Greetings from Germany
Celtic are typically the go-to opponents for testimonials. I think it's because we are guaranteed to bring lots of fans, are a friendly bunch, and will generally help to make the event even more memorable and good natured.
TOTAL FUXXING DIVE!! only kidding .C'mon the hoops.Love the commentator analysing the way he sent boruc the wrong way as if it wasnt already decided.HAHA
yes it wasfixed, but it was a friendly, who the f*ck cares. If shearer had of been fit and was able to play the whole match, then yeh i would agree the match shouldnt be fixed, but i the circumstances, it was great
When the commentator says
"The last enterance of the Gladiator"
that gives me chills, its so fitting.
The roman empire never died .
So nice to see even the Celtic players applauding when he scores, probably one of the best career ending moments a footballer can have

St. James Park looks like a belter of a stadium!!

Have you ever seen such packed stands at a testimonial ! Wow, what a credit to one of the greatest our game has ever seen.
truly a newcastle legend, makes me so happy watching this!
celtic are gentlemen by giving them the penalty.
The last ever match of a legend. Drawing. 92nd minute. Penalty awarded. He comes on to take it. You can't make that stuff up, too perfect.
Dominic Hanson it’s clear it was scripted isn’t it ?
@@ctscan2801 I was thinking that. Newcastle vs Celtic too what match was that lol
@@mariolisa2832 Was Shearers testimonial
I know and he just laughs at it where others would be bricking it!
scripted set up, bit like a pantomime.
One of the best strikers of the ball I have ever seen.
Im not a geordie but i have to say what a legend and a ambassador to the english game!

would've been so awkward if he'd missed haha
I remember unbelievably Beardsley missed his penalty in his testimonial and the ref just made him take it again
We all know Shearer never miss 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
TheGmaN93 The goalkeeper probably deliberately dove the wrong way.
@@IamInsaneFromEarth1218 apart from against Sunderland for one
scripted set up, bit like a pantomime.

1:16 RIP Gary Speed :'(
Was a little dagger in the heart seeing him unexpectedly pop up on screen.

He was playing on one leg...
He was injured mate, had been subbed off earlier.
R.I.P. Glen Roeder - a fine man and a big loss to football.

Football has lost the greatest player of all time
We will never forget you, Alan Shearer

Brings a tear to my eye. What a great way to end a great career. He wouldn't have had that fantastic atmosphere if he had signed for man utd instead of newcastle.
He would of had trophies instead
RIP Gary Speed and Glen Roeder.
A rovers legend also. 👌🏻
Unsung legend!!!
Unsung?!
@@listey Almost as underrated as Lionel Messi and Pele
So dependable.
Henrik Larsson is still the king of Kings.
You'll never find a player to match this man.
SAME OLD SHEARER, ALWAYS SCORING!
why was he not playing the full 90 in his own testimonial?
@Adam Hitchcock he picked up an injury in his final competitive match
15 million well spent
Miss him a lot in penalty shootout
same old shearer always scoring......RIGHTS!

"the keeper guessed wrong..." LoL, yeah course he did.
Best decision Clattenburg ever made.
which stadium is that? looks huge
St. James' Park Newcastle United's stadium
The Sports Direct Arena
Sid james park
The atmosphere inside there when it's rammed is better than any other ground in the country. Just incredible.
The real deal no matter what the occasion.
Legend Super AL 💪🏼👑🎯
United fan legend
Got recommended this in 2021
What a player for us he was. He’s like watching a plank of wood on match of the day tho 😂
brilliant
Amazing

1. Yes. 2. knee injury 3. Good relations between Celtic and Newcastle and their fans are great.. Also the choice for Peter Beardlsey's testimonial.

That's the hardest pen he's ever had to take.

Gary Speed runs to congratulate him 😢

Oh wait that mustn’t have been Thomas Sorensen in goal.

i bet the gk didnt even want to save it haha:')
Shame Sorenson wasn't in goal
did celtic deliberately give the penalty? and did the goalkeeper deliberately dive the wrong way?
Looks like a normal play to me
imagine if he missed
What would he be worth today? 🤔
@leerud69 srsly? i was in the same stand haha :')
Footballers are not gladiators there sports men
Did anybody really think he was gonna miss?
haha
Imagine if he smashed it over?
scripted set up.
Shearer is bigger than celtic
Only in a letter count 😉🍀
Awkward if he missed.....
All good fun, scripted with the keeper, haha.
Bad actors
why has this never been investigated? It was clearly fixed.
really bad taken penalty
I am better than prime Shearer
Poor penalty.
And some people say you can’t fix football matches 😂😂😂😂😂
