Canonically, water does not cause a springlock failure, its actually moving too fast and quickly.

@TheMexicanCatMeow moisture does loosen the locks making them become extremely unstable, also spring bonnie had been left to rot, and was already very broken, plus afton was moving and breathing too much.
Remember, its not just springlocks stabbing your body, it's an actual endo forming inside the suit crushing your body completely
So it's internal as well

@@ChickenTenderDefenderbasically the suits and it’s mechanical stuff is still there just the endoskeleton is removed and the spring locks keep all the electronics in place but once those fail all the machinery that would usually connect and go into the endoskeleton instead attaches to your skeleton crushing anything in its path to reach it

reasons why spring lock faliures happen
1: liquid
2. moving too fast
3. temperature
And some forget hard impacts. That's why I'm most spring lock failures even with out them being heavily deteriorated from age and being in a wet room one failure cam lead to multiple. In case of failure it's best to remain calm and attempt to maintain a stable position so that impact doesn't trigger more and your movement doesn't either you may lose a lim but it's better than death

You have to take into account that the only way for sudden and simultaneous spring-lock failure on the entire suit is if the suit is OLD, RUSTY, WITHOUT PROPER MAINTENANCE and you IGNORE ALL THE SINGS OF THE SUIT BEING OUT OF ORDER.
Normal and probably uncommon spring-lock failure during their glory days consisted of one or two spring-locks coming loose but not snapping back into place, so the wearer would feel pressure being applied to some part of their body and could go to the maintenance room for help before the failure could become fatal.
The springlocks would hurt but it wouldn't pierce the wearer, its gonna feel like you fell down the stairs maybe

@@zaktheripper3455 it's made out of fabric. It would tear if pressure is applied. Since you would probably be stuck to the stage (endo feet nailed to the stage) if you felt nauseous and about to fall, do not worry as the springlocks would become like seatbelts.
Fun fact: in the book series it is stated that you don’t die from any vital organs being stabbed in or anything. You die from drowning in your own blood. HOLY SHI-

Don’t forget the eye mechanics are also in there so now you’re blind as well as having a completely shattered skull, neck, and torso.

Late reply, but I majorly didn't use silver eyes, I kind of used my interpretation of it. However, I did read that it last 5-10 minutes for William Afton to die. So, I was thinking he should have died from drowning, because it takes an estimation of that amount of time.
Springlocks exists in the real world dude. You can test it with a bottle or one of those jelly props.

Fun fact: Just because one springlock goes off doesn't mean the rest will go off, if you're lucky enough to have an employee by you and stay real still, there's a chance you can survive after getting the suit off as still and quickly as possible to avoid others going off, even if you get springlocked there's a chance if you are able to wind the springlocks up before everything gets crushed and rushed to the hospital, William in the books survived a springlock suit only escaping with scars all over his body so chances are you can get rushed to the hospital and still manage to survive

i think it took me like 5 years to realize how ridiculous the concept of springlock animatronics are. you have animatronics with endoskeletons that can recoil back because of a hand crank. which includes the bulky parts like the feet, head, chest, and hands. then there’s the fact that the wires and circuit boards are just unaccounted for. and apparently you’re not supposed to nudge against the spring locks even though your body will probably press against them while you’re wearing the suit anyway 💀

Fact of the Day: When your organs get crushed, you don't die from only blood loss and choking on blood, you also die from your organs slowly being crushed from the outside, and don't forget your heart is also in your chest, so its one of the main serious reasons you die in the springlock suit.
Just fyi, its a common misconception that its water specifically, bumping the spring locks too hard will set them off as well, water just loosens them. If your wearing one thats properly maintained you should be fine for regular use

Springlocks are mainly made to hold open animatronic parts so a human can fit inside. However, sometimes the springlocks can snap to their original form. If a person is inside the suit while this happens, animatronic parts, springs, and metals are driven into their organs. The person may try to scream, but their vocal cords will be cut. And people can choke on their own blood from that
