The low frequency booming noises are only caused by positive strikes, due to the positive strike originating from miles and miles away from the sky and travels much much faster than sound.

nope not positive it flicker so a negative strike positive strikes arent crawling they strike in a straight line to the ground and this is stormchaser basic knowledge
@@TStormGuy Sorry to say it but she is right. Too much flickering for it to be a positive strike. Also by the sound, it has a gradual increase in volume as opposed to a positive which is usually a "booming" effect. Yes it was close, yes it was loud. But this is not a positive strike.
@@twistedginger2353 and also the power doesn‘t tell if it‘s positive or negative, it‘s just polarity. I‘ve experienced positive strikes below 10kA and negative strikes above 100kA 🤝

I think that this was a Horizontal Extended +CG, Meaning that a intracloud lighning (wich is the one we saw and so was negative) Abruptly neutralizes large electrical differences in the cloud, wich in return creates an extreme difference between Cloud and Ground wich then almost always gets neutralized by a very powerful +CG. You could see the powerful, short Flash of Light after the visible intracloud lightning, and then an intense, Deep Thunder. Positive strikes dont have to Sound like bombs. They only really do if they strike really close. If they are about 2~3Km away, their thunder sounds just like a really deep rumble.

That wasn't a positive strike. Positive strikes are very bright and the thunder almost sounds like a bomb.

The bolt itself struck behind the house, that's why you can't see it. Negative strikes don't sound like this.
