I saw the original Bolland & Bolland version of the song on the Soviet TV around 1985. I was 12 and it just blew my mind. It was late at night, I went to bed and the song continued to play in my head. For me it's still the best version.
Hi. I recently saw Rob's interview and was moved. There is a little more history and I wanted to share it with you and if you want to pass it on to Rob. I'm from Greece and here the song "I'm in the army now" in 1983 was a huge hit. All the clubs opened the program with it. I think it was in 1983, Bolland and Bolland ,gave a show in Thessaloniki (North Greece). My band "PROXIES" opened the concert and at the end we had a meeting with Bolland brothers , in the lobby of the hotel where they were staying. They asked us to follow them in Holland and take over the production of our album. We were young, scared and unfortunately we didn't dare.. Big mistake that I still think about today. Even today, in Greece their song "I'm in the army now" is known by the Bollands recording.
Great interview, grateful, and you're a great interviewer. Love the vlogs. Don't stop. Now there's an interview to get. Alice DJ as in the lady singer.
Thank you! And I did ask Judith already but unfortunately she doesn’t do interviews…. At least she replied hehe. Working on some other 90s/00s names as we speak BTW!
@muzikxpress Thank you for asking Judith on our behalf. Pity she doesn't do interviews as she and the band had a huge impact on my generation. I look forward to every vlog as it's all part of music history, and thus, a huge part of my history. Thank you once again.
It was such a good song that it was a hit twice! The Domino Theory is a very nice and interesting album as well. And wow, they got good direct stories about the Vietnam war to inspire the concept of the album on.
I live in Denmark and we loved the Bolland version and when ever it was played at the disco we would run out to dance and we would sing it while waiting for the bus. Status Q also did it well but I love the Bolland version best it was was also longer,
The French version from "Les enfoirés" is just a cover as they make a new one each year for the new charity season, and this cover is cool because the original song is cool (this is their only good cover in my opinion). When they do covers from shitty songs, the cover is bad as well 😛
From all the different versions of "In The Army Now" that have been released during the years, which one is your favorite one?
@@fd5927 same for me!
Really fell in love with the original Bolland recording and The Domino Theory as a whole. It's very 1980s sounding, which I love!
The original, Status Quo, Sabaton and Captain Jack. Status Quo version was also number 1 in Poland at the end of 1986
Status Quo. That got huge radio plays, and was a massive hit in Hungary. I only found about it being a cover accidentally, a few years ago
@@petertakacs3180 Loved that song back in the good old eighties! That's true! Non stop play on the radio!

One of my childhood classics ❤️

Ahh, thanks for sharing! And I made a screenshot of your story and shared it with him!
Great interview again! Rob seems like such a nice guy
Thanks so much! And yes he is!
You made a legacy for yourself as an interviewer! Great choices for person to interview and subject as always. Love Ya!
Thank you very much for the kind words!
He looks incredible considering the circumstances, legendary producer.
Yeah exactly! Very happy I managed to do some interviews with him, so many great stories!
Got the album The domino theory on cd.
Play it often...great concept album.

When I heard the original I raced down and bought the single...
There is also a cover version done by Laibach
Cool, I’ll check it out!
Zag status quo op de zwarte cross dacht dit nummer is niet van hun kwam me bekend voor m'n zus is van bolland en bolland
2 different styles, 2 different approaches... Bolland's version sounds more new-wave, Quo's version sounds more AOR. I like both to be honest.

La version des Enfoirés est juste une... plaisanterie,... pour rester poli.
Bolland & Bolland version is much better, than Status Q..., in my opinion.
