    Why didn't they simply adopt and transform NHIF? This creation of an entirely new outfit makes no sense, and complicates staff transition. Regarding monthly contribution, govn't must not coerce Kenyans to hop on board by force by blackmailing them with denial of other govn't services. Healthcare services is a right of every Kenyan citizen.

      Healthcare services is a right to every Kenyan citizen. Well said. And that's the end of it. Unless you can pay for it, you're done. Government provides 'many things' in written documents. Let a different approach be tried out tuone kama it could bring about some difference.

    Health and Healthcare in general should never be about profit and or measured in term of a balance sheet. Your guest an entrepreneur, operating a private hospital and on the same breadth having been appointed as the chairman of the newly established board of the social health authority is just a symptom of what ails Kenya's healthcare system...his solution will be set from the prism and lens of a quasi private enterprise...
    So long as the health system requires patients to cater for the cost care at the point of delivery, Kenyans will be limited to the extent of what they have in their pockets!
    It pains when one visits hospitals for attention but the first thing that is demanded by providers is a deposit!!! before they can be attended to.....sic!!
    It should read universal health care NOT universal health coverage!!!
    Healthcare should be available to all regardless of wealth!
    Our health system should be based on three core principals:
    1) That it meets the needs of everyone;
    2) That it be free at the point of delivery;
    3) That it be based on clinical need NOT ability to pay..

    Govt should just work to fix hospitals and make sure that they are all in good working order. What is doing is just overtaxing already overtaxed employees to feed private hospitals. But we also know who own the private hospitals, so there is little hope of private hospitals getting fixed.

    Too many "i think" "that was the plan" "i'm not sure", is it too early for the interview? The benefits package is discriminatory as he explains 26:00 to 27:30. What happens to the liabilities of the current NHIF? He has not mentioned that. As the transition happens, and knowing pending bills might arise, how are they going to handle the claims?

    I admire spice team for the wonderful conversation ,kindly bring TSC chairperson and head of police to explain to Kenyan why they allowed us to be under Indian colony.Minnet subcontracted Medical Administrator Kenya Limited ( MAKL) managed by Indians who are harassing service providers, beneficiaries and anyone involved!!teachers and police officers aren't in safe hands as far as healthcare coverage is concerned.They have been sold out by their bosses and they will keep on suffering for the next 3 years.NHIF was the best bet for police officers but the government was bought at a cost

    Those who are self employed pay 2.75% of household income which means of the money that has reached home. But salaried guys pay as per gross which will have PAYE and housing fund deducted. So its comes to about 4% of take home pay of salary. Its unfair

      @georgeooko3716 not really. Those who are self employed pay 2.75 of household income which mean the money that has reached home. But salaried guys pay as per gross which has paye and housing fund deducted. So its comes to about 4% of take home pay. Its unfair

      @@osaedu The bigger problem is that the self employed's income is never known. And the self employed are the majority in this country. Yes KRA has never bothered to have a mechanism of capturing their real income. KRA has only concentrated on VATable businesses. While KRA has now given notice that any business done with one who is not on eTIMs will not be considered to be an expense, they have not provided a mechanism through which a grass cutter who comes to my compound, say, twice a month could easily get into eTIMs.
      The current weakness of KRA should not be the reason not to do what could help fund SHA properly. Hope this will be one thing to wake up the employed to participate in decision making. When the hitherto very comfortable start feeling the bite they will be forced to stand up and it may just be the beginning of Kenya to turn around.
