I bought the 17" version back in December for just about $900 shipped, but returned it, thinking Id get the newer spec'd laptop by March. ... Mistake!!!

Hello from China. Even though l’ve already received my legion 5 pro 3 weeks ago, I’m still enjoying this video and can’t wait to see your next episode to know the potential of this laptop.
I wish I grabbed it then, but tbh I was expecting it to be a preorder so I let it pass. I just ordered it today from antonline for $1499 before tax but it comes with horizon zero dawn and days gone. Both games are $50 on steam.
I think this will sway me away from 14" laptops. It sits just below the G15 (3070) at 1600p so I assume it will perform like how the G14 (3060) performs at 1080p when GPU bound. Battery life remains to be seen. Can't wait for your full review!

@@sassysteve6700 Oh for sure, if you're going to run the laptop flat out, your battery's going to drain fast. You can get maybe 1-1.5 hours on the battery when gaming.
I am a very hard person to please and very extremely picky laptop wise. This can be vouched for lol. I have been looking for the "perfect" laptop since October of last year. This machine checks so many boxes in more ways that one. The only thing I would change is the 3060 for a 3070. It is so impressive though I am willing to forego the 3070 for the rest of the machine, the quality and features are that good. The screen is out of this world (I am a programmer 16:10 QHD benefits me directly) the keyboard is very tactile and not mushy or overly hard. Fan noise excellent. The price and performance ratio is perfect (especially in a scalpers market, SCREW SCALPERS) The machine is worth every $.
@@tedarcher9120 Yeah, but there's no DisplayPort, either over Mini DisplayPort or over USB-C, and the design leaves a lot to be desired. I do agree that the lower-end configurations are great for the price though.
@MeMarzani I got the 1080 300hz, Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3080 (8 GB VRAM) model; the higher tier models were sold out, and I got the last unit, as after I bought mine, the ASUS store said "sold out". I really love this laptop. The speakers are better than the Zepyhrus G15 due to my Zephyrus G15 unit (which was returned) having the speaker popping issues. That and the lack of more than 16 GB without synchronized dual-channel speeds (big for Intel but HUGE for Ryzen) made me return it. I'm not paying that much money for a white Zephyrus G15 with 32 GB of RAM but with the same speaker issues and the *awful* keyboard backlight on the white model. Somehow, my Scar G15 has over 10 hours of battery life while the dGPU is disabled on battery power and the screen is set to 60 hz. That's more than my 7 - 8 hours on my 1440p Zephyrus G15 with the same 60 hz refrsh rate and dGPU disabled in that laptop (but with the QHD screen) before I returned it. The trackpad is great, and the mechanical keyboard is above average too. I would have liked one more USB port or an SD card slot on the right next to the keystone and I would have *REALLY* liked a MUX switch or for all display outs, including the HDMI and USB-C port to go directly to the dGPU, but I guess you can't have everything on a laptop. Overall, this is by far the best laptop I've *EVER* owned. I was worried about the keyboard after watching Dave2D's review, but I think he just is biased against mechanical keyboards on laptops, and the ones he likes are the ones I think are bad or otherwise are on bad laptops. For example, he said the Alienware m15 R4 Intel version in his review had a good keyboard, but he didn't even review the rest of the laptop, which I hate. But back to the ASUS ROG Scar Strix G15, I've had zero issues with my unit since I got it, and I cannot recommend it enough!

Because to achieve more vertical pixels the big majority of games have to rescale the image using a zoom in (older games even stretching). This means, not only LESS horizontal view, but actually LESS vertical view! I know it may seems strange, but this is a real problem you have to count in when buying this Legion/Lenovo laptops. There are some games that actually benefit from a 16:10 aspect ration (first come to mind is Ghost Recon Wildlands) but the vast majority of games have been designed to "work" better on a 16:9 aspect ratio screens. Pls, don't let this comment pass, be *aware* about this problem; don't waste your money or be ready to cope with some strange "crammed" images in game...or eventually black bars on top and bottom of your screen. This is a beautiful laptop, looks very solid, I think that it feels like Christmas with every new unboxing hahahaha Those 89 degrees are kinda scary, thinking about long gaming sessions, but still looks like an amazing laptop. @@OWNORDISOWN I have had 3 units now, of which all three have a slight coil whine when listening close to the keyboard in idle (no fans). It appears to be a common 'problem' that a lot of people encounter. Two of my three units had dead pixels (also rather common problem apparently), so I returned them. Luckily, my 3rd one is fine :) also rather important; there is a noticeable difference in GPU performance between models with Samsung VRAM and Micron VRAM (more recent models), with Samsung clearly being better in benchmarks. And as you probably already know, 32GB RAM increases the CPU scores quite a lot. For more on all of this, you can check the Discord channel of L5P. Cheers!
Hello Stephen 🙂... I'm planning to buy a Lenovo Legion (initially a Legion 5)... But then saw the Legion 5 Pro 😊 The inside material, the trackpad etc, is it the same as the Legion 5? I only ask as some people have said the smooth rubbery type surface can damage/dent easily & if it marks with smudges easily too? I just wanted to clarify if the same surface is used in the Pro version. Many thanks... Am a new subscriber 😊

For you who want buy this laptop, my advice is set it to balance mode. Perfomance mode is not that much different from balance mode. Instead, it makes the laptop's temperature go high as seen in this video

Thanks mate. I have a friend who uses it for coding and loves the 16:10 screen, especially at 2560 x 1600. He gets more lines of code . The CPU us powerful, the only issue I had with my Magix editing software was that if I had the 3060 accelerating the program my audio was out of sync. Also , that software can use Quicksync so my actual review (my latest video) took 49 mins to render vs 28 using Quicksync... I loved the screen though, I'm sold on that screen for editing.

Today i bought a Legion 5 pro but with only white colored keyboard backlight. On Elgiganten's outlet in Sweden for around 980 USD only. 1Tb NVMe SSD, RTX 3060, R7 5800H, 2k screen.
Can you do a battery test of 1. office task & browsing 2. Gaming/video editing I would also like to know what's the maximum PD charging speed on the USB C port and compare the charging times to the original 300W charger. Performance is really impressive so far but can the chassis handle the 130W GPU? Like the palmrest & keyboard getting hot?
A direct comparison video between the AMD R7 5800H of the Omen 15 and Legion 5 Pro will be very helpful too. In terms of performance, thermals and battery life (office & heavy use)
I know you didn't get the Stingray colour, but I'm concerned that the contrast of the keyboard on it with that light blue LED shining through would make it difficult to read the keys. Do you have any experience of it first hand?

Great overview. Gives pause when you consider that right now, Legion 5 systems with I7-10750h (6 core/12 threads) processors and 2060s with 240Hz are running over $1200 on Amazon. Yikes! hi, is g-sync supporting lower refresh rates than 60? That just freaked me out as I settled on and ordered yesterday the Legion 7i/11800h/3070 and it has the same screen.. I wanted g-sync for retro gaming in particular, the only way to clock sync many old arcade games, for example, is g-sync. I thought it would start at 30hz (some of those games even run at 38hz). In my now very old Aorus X5 V8, I tested the g-sync down to 30hz perfectly, screen refresh was 30hz at 30 fps, however that is g-sync only, dgpu only, no freesync or hybrid mode.

I would have liked one more USB port or an SD card slot on the right next to the keystone and I would have *REALLY* liked a MUX switch or for all display outs, including the HDMI and USB-C port to go directly to the dGPU, but I guess you can't have everything on a laptop.
Overall, this is by far the best laptop I've *EVER* owned.
I was worried about the keyboard after watching Dave2D's review, but I think he just is biased against mechanical keyboards on laptops, and the ones he likes are the ones I think are bad or otherwise are on bad laptops. For example, he said the Alienware m15 R4 Intel version in his review had a good keyboard, but he didn't even review the rest of the laptop, which I hate.
But back to the ASUS ROG Scar Strix G15, I've had zero issues with my unit since I got it, and I cannot recommend it enough!

I will make this same comment until someone actually adress this issue: 16:10 aspect ratio screens are *not good for gaming* . Why ? Because to achieve more vertical pixels the big majority of games have to rescale the image using a zoom in (older games even stretching). This means, not only LESS horizontal view, but actually LESS vertical view! I know it may seems strange, but this is a real problem you have to count in when buying this Legion/Lenovo laptops. There are some games that actually benefit from a 16:10 aspect ration (first come to mind is Ghost Recon Wildlands) but the vast majority of games have been designed to "work" better on a 16:9 aspect ratio screens. Pls, don't let this comment pass, be *aware* about this problem; don't waste your money or be ready to cope with some strange "crammed" images in game...or eventually black bars on top and bottom of your screen. @@OWNORDISOWN I have had 3 units now, of which all three have a slight coil whine when listening close to the keyboard in idle (no fans). It appears to be a common 'problem' that a lot of people encounter. Two of my three units had dead pixels (also rather common problem apparently), so I returned them. Luckily, my 3rd one is fine :) also rather important; there is a noticeable difference in GPU performance between models with Samsung VRAM and Micron VRAM (more recent models), with Samsung clearly being better in benchmarks. And as you probably already know, 32GB RAM increases the CPU scores quite a lot. For more on all of this, you can check the Discord channel of L5P. Cheers!

The inside material, the trackpad etc, is it the same as the Legion 5? I only ask as some people have said the smooth rubbery type surface can damage/dent easily & if it marks with smudges easily too? The A15 is rated at 90+5 whereas this one is 130/115 so this one will have massively more performance than the A15

In my first year of my channel I spent $50k on laptops, second year $30k. I have asked Lenovo for a Legion 7 and they said they would send me one when one becomes available.
For you who want buy this laptop, my advice is set it to balance mode. Perfomance mode is not that much different from balance mode. Instead, it makes the laptop's temperature go high as seen in this video
just lift the laptop you get -10 lower degrees, if you use fan you get around 65 degrees. 84 - 74 - 65

The CPU us powerful, the only issue I had with my Magix editing software was that if I had the 3060 accelerating the program my audio was out of sync.
Also , that software can use Quicksync so my actual review (my latest video) took 49 mins to render vs 28 using Quicksync...
I loved the screen though, I'm sold on that screen for editing.

Today i bought a Legion 5 pro but with only white colored keyboard backlight. On Elgiganten's outlet in Sweden for around 980 USD only. 1Tb NVMe SSD, RTX 3060, R7 5800H, 2k screen.
Can you do a battery test of
1. office task & browsing
2. Gaming/video editing
I would also like to know what's the maximum PD charging speed on the USB C port and compare the charging times to the original 300W charger.
Performance is really impressive so far but can the chassis handle the 130W GPU? Like the palmrest & keyboard getting hot?
A direct comparison video between the AMD R7 5800H of the Omen 15 and Legion 5 Pro will be very helpful too. In terms of performance, thermals and battery life (office & heavy use)

Great overview. Gives pause when you consider that right now, Legion 5 systems with I7-10750h (6 core/12 threads) processors and 2060s with 240Hz are running over $1200 on Amazon. Yikes! HP is having some good sales too on their HP Omen 15s. My question is what is the turnaround time to receiving a pre-ordered new system with the 5000 AMD processors after paying for it?

hi, is g-sync supporting lower refresh rates than 60? That just freaked me out as I settled on and ordered yesterday the Legion 7i/11800h/3070 and it has the same screen.. I wanted g-sync for retro gaming in particular, the only way to clock sync many old arcade games, for example, is g-sync. I thought it would start at 30hz (some of those games even run at 38hz). In my now very old Aorus X5 V8, I tested the g-sync down to 30hz perfectly, screen refresh was 30hz at 30 fps, however that is g-sync only, dgpu only, no freesync or hybrid mode.
