    The flight: I got up early for a 7am flight as it was forecast to be calm and sunny. The conditions were beautiful and the lake looked stunning... but this had a big downside, I couldn't see the water while I was flying! It was almost impossible to tell how close it was 😅 This ruined my plans to do some super low flying over the water. However I did still do some low flying, and accidentally bounced off the water a few times thinking I wasn't that close! I still enjoyed it though and the patches of fog added to the beautiful scenery. You'll notice there are some clips from a previous day where the weather wasn't as nice, but I could see the water which made landings a lot smoother too. All my landings were FPV as I enjoy it this way, but on the calm day my landings were really bouncy with not knowing how close the water was 😆 But the Polaris is extremely forgiving and can easily take a rough landing on water. Clips that include the OSD are DVR recordings from my goggles and clips without OSD are onboard recordings by the RunCam Link Split HD.
    The plane build/setup:
    This is the RC Lander Polaris and there's a full kit list with links if you scroll down a little. It's a PNP so came with Motor, ESC (with reverse) and 3 servos. The build was fairly straight forward as most electronics were already in place. I added a Matek F411-WTE with iNav 6. Maybe not the best FC for this setup as it only has 2 x UARTS but I had it available at the time. WTFOS needs a UART for MSP OSD and then the other UART is used by my Crossfire for control. This meant I had to move GPS to soft serial, which has worked flawlessly so far. For video I installed a RunCam Link Split HD which is essentially a DJI Vista with a second board for recording 2.7k footage onboard (and can be stabilised using Gyroflow). This took up the second and final soft serial so that I can remotely start/stop the recording. I binned the terrible lid hatch that comes with this plane and designed my own 3d printed part that has air intake and outlet for cooling the vtx and recorder just below it. I also designed and printed and camera holder that would lift the camera up higher to ensure not too much of the nose was in the shot. The final touch was an APC prop as the one that came with the kit was a bit naff. AUW is 1,180g and flight time is roughly 15mins with my flying style.

      @@AdamGdoesFPV I have to agree. Although I grew up flying LOS I've had WAY more fun with my HLK-31 since I added FPV.

    • @sweetieinsf
      @sweetieinsf ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jake, a buddy of mine FPVd his Skipper and I flew with him in a mountain valley a few years back. He took off and landed from a small pond like it was nothing and flew that thing as high up into the mountains, and much lower to the trees, as I flew my big Draks. I was so impressed that I tried to buy a Skipper when I got home but none were to be found. A couple of years later AdamG did a video of a cheap Chinese knockoff, the HLK-31, which I immediately bought. I flew it LOS for a while but it wasn't until I added FPV that it REALLY got fun! GO FOR IT!

    • @AdamGdoesFPV
      @AdamGdoesFPV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice video as always Adam! Flying low over water is really hard, you just can't tell how low you are! Thanks to you I am still having fun with my HLK-31, that I FPVd, how does this compare in terms of flight characteristics?

    • @AdamGdoesFPV
      @AdamGdoesFPV  ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers mate :) how are you getting on with the HLK31 in FPV? I always thought about FPV on that one but decided to go with this Polaris for FPV due to it's size, being bigger made it easier to fit FPV gear and a decent size lipo in it. Comparing the two I'd say the Polaris feels a bit more stable with it being heavier, but the HLK is probably a bit more agile... and I bet it would be more forgiving in a crash

    • @sweetieinsf
      @sweetieinsf ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AdamGdoesFPV I don't fly it often, it really needs light winds to be fun but it has been great with the FPV. I managed to get a GPS, VTX, camera, DL RX (I have a bunch of spares), and antennas all in the hatch cover so it stays dry and with a 2200 3S I get about 7 minutes flying time. I'm hoping to get it out again soon since the summer light winds are about to start. Keep the great videos coming!

    • @AdamGdoesFPV
      @AdamGdoesFPV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sweetieinsf sounds great. Short flight time as expected, that’s why I went with the Polaris. With a 3000 4S it flies for average 15mins but could easily do 30mins if I took it easy.
