Toe-walking is actually a sign of autism. It usually goes hand in hand (pun intended) with "inappropriate social interactions" which includes the odd touching and the poor eye contact. Most children toe-walk to some extent when they're learning to walk, but grow out of it, so you don't see it very often in the "average" population.
I never knew that. I toe walk still, and I am 33, but I don't have autism. I just cannot break the habit. I only do it when I am barefoot though.@PicturePerfectMemori

I love how none of these actors react negatively to the touching. Some may gently direct him away but no one has been mean or pushed him. And if any of them are uncomfortable they don't show it, as I said earlier, they just gently guide him away. Perfect way to handle that

A really huge and amazing part of this is that the actor is communicating directly to the kiddo instead of parents/guardians/caretakers, which is SO IMPORTANT!!!
I wouldn't say it's anywhere near the most important, especially if the child doesn't care or notice, but I do think that it's just common courtesy and is good to do, yes. Some people might be more comfortable knowing in advance what the person's triggers/sensitivities/interests are beforehand.
@@MsHojat Just because someone isn't looking at you doesn't mean they aren't listening :) Peter's conversation was with Thomas, not the person holding the camera. Autism is one of many examples, but too often people talk to someone's carer, friend, parent, interpreter... anyone but the person they should be addressing. Like you said, it is common courtesy and good to do, but often those who don't communicate the way we expect don't get that respect. What I see from this clip is Thomas is aware of his surroundings, that he's being spoken to, and understands, from how he copies Peter's pose, follows his cue to look at the camera, knows he's being asked for a hug and can choose whether he wants to. Thomas initiates contact with his hands and Peter's shoulders. He's an equal participant in this conversation. Imagine if Peter only addressed the person holding the camera.
