I like to clean and oil my machines when I've finished for the day. Some fabrics leave a lot of fluff quickly whilst others leave very little mess at all. In addition to the brushes that come with the machines, I often use an extra long pipe cleaners with the end doubled over to help reach right in to the nooks and crannies. My machines are covered when not in use to hep eliminate dust settling into the parts. This can be a real issue in older homes. I made up some covers from remnants of lined curtain fabric. It's nice and thick and cost me nothing :-) Routine cleaning of sewing machines is often overlooked but can the cause of so many sewing problems such as threads and/or needles breaking.
Just a question… Do you know if the singer sewing machine oil ever goes bad? Since it is going into the parts of your machine , I wanted to ask . Thanks
Pressurised air isn't a great idea, it pushes dust further into the machine that you can't get to and can cause issues in the motor. If you have never cleaned machine and used it alot, it would be advised to get a service person to do this and possibly show you.

Singer is a lot faster but elna is smoother. I would choose Elna for recommendations
