My very first ca phe sua da was when I asked my father-in-law to bring me back a pack of Vietnamese coffee and a phin from Vietnam. Not knowing where to buy it from, he went to Highlands Coffee, and brought back a pack of ground robusta from them, and their branded phin. So I made it at home following tutorials from actual Vietnamese people (I wanted to make it right) and it turned out delicious! Fast forward a couple years, and I went to Vietnam for the first time, and it was now time for me to finally taste what TRUE ca phe sua da should taste like. Let me tell you this: I have tried several chains, but also independant coffee shops, and nothing compared to the one I made at home. I finally went to Highlands, and it was the only place where it was just as good, if not better. I thought it would be like Starbucks, just low-quality coffee with great branding. But oddly enough, it is by far the best way to experience Vietnamese coffee, wether you buy one already made in the shop, or buy you coffee bags there for you to make at home. Long story short: Highlands Coffee makes the best Vietnamese coffee.

10:18 "Cốt" means the first batch, the extract, condensed form of the (mentioned) liquid. "Nước cốt dừa" is the first, thickest batch of liquid that you squeeze out of the shredded coconut meat with just a tiniest amount of added water, after that you can add more water to the coconut meat and squeeze 2-3 more times, those are called "nước dão". Same with filtered coffee, the 1st batch is "cà phê cốt"; poor people may not discard the coffee powder right after that, but rather use it 1-2 more times to make "cà phê dão", which tastes very much like Korean style Americano. More information about Cộng cafe: their first original shop in Hanoi had really good coffee and distinguished vibe & music. Then they became so popular, they went franchise. They only sell the brand, the decor theme. That was when their quality went downhill. Each Cộng shop has a different flavor, not in a good way.

First i thought that my taste goes lame, but... It used to be very strong and bitter, sometimes I have to add extra sugar or milk, but I like it that way and now they taste like the other mediocre instant coffee. Well this was fun! I’m with you on Highlands for in-house chain coffee; I liked it so much that I bought a kilo before I came home. (I also really liked their Tshirts but they couldn’t sell me one!) We can’t get their ground coffee in the US but recently I’ve seen their instant “3-in-one,” so I’ll try that! But I got the best coffee from the guy in a hole-in-the-wall shop across the street from where I stayed. :-) Phúc Long was one I tried early on out of curiosity but it was definitely 👎. I was told that they really made their name with tea rather than coffee. It was a combination of weird tasting and forgettable. (Meaning that I can’t really remember how exactly it was weird tasting… But it was.) I did like Coffee House, and it was conveniently close to where I stayed. Have you tried The Little Bean on Cao Thắng? The coffee was decent and the locale itself was really cool. they were creating a wonderful tropical garden on the rooftop; it was fun watching it expand over the month I was there, and I can’t wait to see it again soon. The only ground coffee we can get here is Trung Nguyen. It’s okay but I’m not a fan of the clearly artificial chocolate flavoring.

But I highly recommended the special cup of Japan, easily to buy in Vietnam, that melts ice very slowly and doesn't get wet on the outside, perfect for enjoying your drinks at the room temperature.
the Vina cafe you've got is Saigon flavour, which I assume it's how Sai Gon people prefer it to be. They have other flavour, which include original one and other versions, you could have tried the original one, the coffee is stronger, with bitter taste as well. Used to be my favourite, now there are just many more to choose from
There is definitely something with can coffee (or most other drinks) that seems to affect the taste. I have had Boss coffee in PET bottle form and it tasted great.
FYI, it might be a better test to drink the coffee without ice. Not sure if certain places are giving you more watery ice and definitely if its delivered, it would get diluted a bit.
No matter you try multiple coffee in each every place , i'm defenitely you're gonna love Highlands coffee . Cause that is a traditional Việt Nam Ca Phe Phin with a most bitter, little sweet , and a smooth layer of coffee crema ❤
since you like the burn taste of Cafe Phố, i would recommend you go to a Vietnam cafe store (or you can ask the staff at Highland) and ask for a deep burn Vietnamese hot coffee with milk. I use to be a barista and there an elderly couple that love to drink Vietnamese hot coffee w milk like that
The salty coffee, another option out of traditional coffee. They even add some liquer, cinamon into coffee to make that coffee more creating a unique flavor.
my fav coffee in vn is the coconut slush coffee from cong cafe !! (also the boss might taste flat because vietnamese coffee uses robusta beans whereas abroad arabica beans are used for coffee aka more mellow in flavor and not as strong tasting!)
I am Vietnamese 🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳 normally Vietnamese people will make instant coffee by pouring a little hot water into a cup then put the coffee packet in and maybe add a little sugar. Stir them well with a spoon without a machine, add some ice and enjoy, the taste will be very rich. (Note: Dissolve coffee with hot water, avoid foaming coffee with machine, black coffee is the standard)
I think for can coffee, you should try drinking them straight from the can and without the ice, the ice is what makes them watery. If you want them hot - microwave in a cup, cold - refrigerator thats it. Tried many brands can coffee and Highlands can coffee is my can of coffee to go when I dont have time to make myself one. Just take them out of the refrigerator and you are ready to go.
G7 has a special place in my heart. Cafe Pho is such a good second runner up for me. I wouldn't have tried it if our market wasn't giving it out as a free gift.
I recommend Trung Nguyen brand G7 powdered coffee. You missed Trung Nguyen legend coffee shop, not the dry powder. Trung Nguyen brand is very familiar to Saigon people before Highland and Katinat.
To be fair, Phuc Long is a chain specializing in TEA, and coffee is an extra thing, usually, when you do extras, it won't be as good as the thing you are being known for. So, almost comparable to The Coffee House or any coffee-specialize chain is already a good thing for PL.
Bro did you use hot water to mix with the powder coffee? From what I see it seems you use the water which is not warm enough and it definitely destroyed the taste of coffee

You should do part 2 because there are a lot more coffe chain in HCM. My favourite is Là Việt coffee
yes, G7, the best instant coffee ever. and so is Highlands for a 1.5$ cup of coffee. I never try Katinat, but I'll definitely try once later.
G7 definitely surprised me 👍
Cà phê phố is the best, G7 is not thick enough. Your pee later in the day will reeks G7 coffee, it’s the worst in that regards.
5:50 top-notch transistion right there
Give Mr. Thang a raise! He's proving his worth! The quality *chef kiss* ~~
Holy, your vietnamese skill are improving greatly !!!
Try thái yên - sapa, it's wonderful. Pricey but worth every single drop.
since you like the burn taste of Cafe Phố, i would recommend you go to a Vietnam cafe store (or you can ask the staff at Highland) and ask for a deep burn Vietnamese hot coffee with milk. I use to be a barista and there an elderly couple that love to drink Vietnamese hot coffee w milk like that
Try LaViet. The transition very smooth, impressive.
Your video editor is definitely S-tier !
S tier Editing for an S tier Video. Keep it up Chad!
The salty coffee, another option out of traditional coffee. They even add some liquer, cinamon into coffee to make that coffee more creating a unique flavor.
Hey Chad Kubanoff, I think you sould drink Salt Coffee by Chu Long, It taste is very good like some creamy and little bit salty
my fav coffee in vn is the coconut slush coffee from cong cafe !! (also the boss might taste flat because vietnamese coffee uses robusta beans whereas abroad arabica beans are used for coffee aka more mellow in flavor and not as strong tasting!)
you should also try phela its also a new brand like katinat and it tastes also really good
These 2 brands belong to one company so I guess their coffee are from the same source
My favor instant coffee combines a park classic Trung Nguyen and a park G7 Trung Nguyen 3in 1. After 1 hours in cool freeze, it wil be the best.
5:49 that transistion was smoother than the coffee holy
G7 has a special place in my heart. Cafe Pho is such a good second runner up for me. I wouldn't have tried it if our market wasn't giving it out as a free gift.
try cafe Trần Quang it the most popular instant cafe in the west side
I like the fact that you make coffee in every containers possible 😂
😁
Trung Nguyen also has shops. You can come there to try. But they're very expensive
I recommend Trung Nguyen brand G7 powdered coffee. You missed Trung Nguyen legend coffee shop, not the dry powder. Trung Nguyen brand is very familiar to Saigon people before Highland and Katinat.
Please do a blind test of these brands again, it would be so interesting to see if you can identify your "favorite brands" without looking.
Is it possible to get unsweetened coffee?
To be fair, Phuc Long is a chain specializing in TEA, and coffee is an extra thing, usually, when you do extras, it won't be as good as the thing you are being known for.
So, almost comparable to The Coffee House or any coffee-specialize chain is already a good thing for PL.
My favorite in Phúc Long is Jasmine Lychee tea and they cancel it 😂 so sad
@@koeminfoodnooo its still there babee.. Im at Phuc Long right now replying this comment :>
@@kellyn5898 really, i usually order on grab, i don't see it on menu recently. Thanks
You can try Phe la coffee, it's so delicious!
my go to as a Vietnamese here in the US is G7 instant
I love you because I live in Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City and in Distreet 9
I mean " your video"
Your choices in what to hold the coffee in each time is cracking me up😂
omg this is now my cheatsheet :) thank you
Bro did you use hot water to mix with the powder coffee? From what I see it seems you use the water which is not warm enough and it definitely destroyed the taste of coffee
I wanna know that too. Shouldn't you boil them all first, before cooling?
You should try Mai Coffee once :))
Cafe Phố is my fav instant too bc of the aroma
Chad, my man, plz do a energy drink ranking, which taste the best and which is the most powerful
