  • The Phoebe Mini Backpack features a front zippered pocket and a back zippered pocket on the exterior. Inside is another zippered pocket and a slip pocket. Enough pockets to keep everything organized. The zipper top closure keeps your belongings safely inside. The best part...no drop in lining or binding required! (Although there are optional binding instructions included - suggested when thicker fabrics are used). Rated INTERMEDIATE by Jenny!

    Use code SEWGNAR for 25% off through March 12th (the day after my birthday!).
    My amendments:
    -Backpack straps - 1.5" wide x 45" - I wanted .5" due to my hardware but you can do whatever thickness you want!
    -I wanted my Handle to be 1" wide so I cut 2" x length specified in pattern
    -I made my Handle rolled, you'll have to watch the video to see that!
    -I recessed my Strap Anchors on the back panel, I used a 2.5" long x 2" wide piece and folded the long edge in toward center and topstitched to create a 1" wide anchor. The actual installation is shown in the video!
    I sewed using Tex 45 Siah Swag thread, a size 18 needle, 4mm stitch length, and I used my Juki TL2010q.

    Thank you for another awesome tutorial. I have to double thank you for showing how you install a zipper overlay. It is the best technique, in my opinion. I have tried other ways, and to me this is the easiest and creates a beautiful pocket. I started my stitching at the lower right hand corner, stitched along the bottom and stopped at the lower left. This avoided the issue of the stitching affecting the pocket. You are very talented and I have learned so much from your videos. Have a beautiful day!🤩

    I just finished this. Thanks for the modification ideas. I used cork plus stonewash vinyl for the front pocket (woven interfacing for that piece only as it has some stretch) and water resistant canvas for lining and pockets. I widened the back zipper pocket by 1” and used overlays for both and put 2 pulls on the main zipper. I added a padded center strap + woven strap to the back top seam to make this a sling and did the strap anchors as in this video. I considered binding the final seam due to bulky fabrics but decided to birth through the back pocket instead. Glad I did. Easy peasy. BUT my strap connector failed the first time I put it on 😢 (the stitching was too close to the slit and popped open) so I opened the pocket to access the anchor and added a second rivet to both ABOVE the slit. All good. Love this bag as a sling. I’ve been using the Retro Sling by Kandou and love it, but it’s to narrow at the top. This will hold my iPad and insulin pump supplies for travel. Woop!

    Awesome video! What an interesting way of turning a bag- backpack! I watched the video in its entirety. I also watched 2 of Jennifer's 3 videos. I must say, your explanations were clearer as were your demonstrations. However, I believe I will have to watch your video several more times before I feel confident in giving it a try. I do like working with cork, but I am thinking cotton might be a bit easier for me. Thanks for sharing and being so real in all your videos!

    When using cork for bags, do you use any sort of product to keep the cork supple so it doesnt crack when turning and folding when making a bag like this??

    • @SewGnar
      @SewGnar  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t. Most cork has a finish on it to help with longevity!

      By the way, I wanted to let you know that when I made this backpack from Sincerely Jen, I partially watched 3 videos, yours was one and I chose to watch your video due to (1) the zipper overlay technique, (2) your explanation of what to do and what not to do, (3) the way you explain how to assemble this backpack, and your teaching style. You are very good at teaching and I really appreciate your talent! Thank you! I also bought your zipper overlay pattern kit- love it!!
