    If you're going to drive along the coast on US-98, there are two very small charming cities of Apalachicola and Port St. Joe. If you're going along I-10, there is Falling Waters State Park, which has a 70 foot tall waterfall. Also, in Marianna, there are caves you can tour inside at Florida Caverns State Park.

      When I think of Marianna I can’t help but remember the reform school Florida School for Boys, saw a documentary recently were they interviewed a few men that were tortured beyond belief… and no one stopped it
      Throughout its 111-year history, the school gained a reputation for abuse, beatings, rapes, torture, and even murder of students by staff. Despite periodic investigations, changes of leadership, and promises to improve, the allegations of cruelty and abuse continued.

    What I think makes Florida, and any state for that matter, so interesting is its diversity of landscapes and scenery. And what sets it apart from almost everywhere else in the country is, you can bring a bottle of water with you and enjoy all the different aspects of the state 12 months a year. I never thought much of Tallahassee but I'd definitely visit after watching this.

    In Tally you will come across a mixture of giant Oak Trees, Pine Trees, Maple Trees and Camphor Trees. Every once in a while you may spot a Palm Tree but overall they struggle in the winter cold. It seems the authorities are big here on trees and nature. The only problem with the trees is that you don't know where they begin and where the homes end.

    I'm from here so I'm partial. It's quiet ( away from the schools ) and it's artsy and governy. LOL. I cannot say real estate prices are "cheaper" than central or south Florida. With covid, inventory is so low now that prices are goofy high. Tallahassee also has finite amount of houses for sale at any given time, folks who want them ( because of jobs and educational opportunities ) will pay whatever they cost. We were so lucky, we found a foreclosure near Maclay ( yay ) and at retirement age we are finally living the lower crime dream we worked so long for.

    3 of my kids went to college in Tally (getting ready to move my 4th down in a few weeks) . I've come to really love this charming town. Very, very friendly, I love the old architecture, lots of historical brick homes/buildings and moss trees line the streets. You have a very college town feel near the campuses , but just a little beyond are some very modern, clean upper class neighborhoods. As big as it is - it has a very cozy - small town feel. Tons of shopping - an hours drive to some very nice beaches.Of course I worried with my first kid moving there from Central FL concerning safety (being a city and all) but, like I said I've really come to love it!!!! ( I just love Tallahassee! ) can I say it enough! :)

Never thought there was that kind of shade in Florida, the sunshine state! Nice place for R&R and taking in the quiet vibes and history. We are doomed to repeat the same mistakes when we don't know history. You connect with nature always on your walks in Miami. I appreciate your narration of what you see. I will see this town thanks to you, some day. I love history of each place I visit. Some of the best places are not the huge tourist attractions. That was way cool for what it was. The big thing is the natural beauty of this area. There are a lot of outdoor recreation opportunities here, like running, walking, cycling, etc along with a very active recreation dept. We do not have the beaches or theme parks, but overall the quality of life is fairly good. When the students are here, things can get a little hectic driving wise, especially on home game weekends for FAMU or FSU. Tally is South Georgia more than Florida really. More "Southern" and friendly to my mind. Yeah, students aren't there like usual because of Covid otherwise you'd see more traffic. You are within easy driving range of a lot of natural beauty. Love the live oak trees. Tallahassee's biggest issue for me is summer is brutal -- you aren't getting those Gulf Stream breezes like in South Florida.

    • @thedirtybubble9613
      @thedirtybubble9613 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Huh? You get a Gulf breeze in Tallahassee. Also, it rains more here in the summer than it does in South FL so that cools it down tremendously. I have lived in both Tallahassee and Miami. IMO the heat is way more brutal in Miami because it's in the tropics and the humidity makes it feel like hell on earth. That and it's never ending unrelentless heat that lasts 9 months. No thank you. Tallahassee's biggest issue is the airport here flat out sucks.

      Go swimming. Youre in Florida. There's always a spring, beach or river nearby. Tallahassee also has swimming pools and allow private pools so enjoy the water.

      Most guys do suffer more in warmer climates, unfortunately. I’m a chick who finds it delightful here, haha, (but I don’t have to wear a suit to work either)… the typical clouds, northerly latitude & heavy tree cover keep it way more temperate than SoFL.

      Most are friendly. The poverty rate is really not greater than any other city of the same size. Trying to compare North Florida, which mostly lives off the land to South or Central Florida who feed off of tourism and theme parks was where those people who made that conclusion made a grave error. North Florida loves and welcomes tourists but are more about conservation and historical preservation.

      @@thedirtybubble9613 Montgomery is larger than tallahassee. So 28 percent of tallahassee is less than Montgomery. BTW Montgomery has a 32 percent poverty rate. Percentages are like that. They dont really give accuracy for that reason. Yes poverty is a issue everywhere but its not anything more than any other city of equal size for tallahassee.

      Easy enough to fire off insults here w/o offering any backup to them. I spent a very comfortable summer here lately & if small historical cities set amongst gorgeous nature, recreation, & culture is your thing, this could be it. Def some violent hoods & all that; but you can avoid it, too (or try, IDK, snowy Vermont??)

      @Cycology_Major I've lived here since the late 80s. The town has never changed. The City Commission is run incompetently. And the police department and local sheriff's office believe they own the town, and will bounce your face off the payment any chance they get. I've worked with both. I've seen it. It might look nice to outsiders, but it's a toxic dump behind the facade.

      @@3MinutesToKill I can appreciate what you’re getting at, too - & that you replied. I’ve lived in 11 states from New England & several inbetween down to SoFL, Dallas to Houston, Chicago burbs… Generally, the whole of US govt & business is always doing some f**kery of sorts. And the longer you stay in one place, the more it’s in your face.
      I just hate winters, vast urban sprawls, & deeply redneck towns. I’ve seen worse but if you know better cities…? 😉
