    Funny thing is that voyager wouldve lost to dominion ships due to the phased polaran energy weapons, DS9 dint develop the resistance to the polaran weapons until they captured a jem hadar attack ship later in the series. So voyager wouldve easily lost, like they would if they hadnt develop resistance to chrontin weapons. Also there was an episode where voyager encounter a species with polaran based weapons that they couldnt defend against.

      It possible that this is set after Voyager encounter Polaran weapons and that the crew manage to find a way to defend against them or they manage to buy that knowledge of someone locally.

      I mean yea a Galaxy class got wrecked by 3 dominion fighters (& destroyed by a suicide run), and the Defiant got wrecked by 3 and damaged so bad it couldn't defend itself & was then boarded and captured.... and both of those would wreck the Intrepid. & like you said, Federation shields initially couldn't block Dominion polaron weapons, & Voyager was lost before they encountered the Dominion.... so yea; Voyager wouldn't stand a chance.
      One minor correction: DS9 & the Federation stealing the Jem'Hadar fighter had nothing to do with the polaron weapon resistance, that occurred several seasons later; that had to do with the Breen energy dampening weapon (which they were installing on Jem'Hadar fighters). The Polaron resistance wasn't fully explained, other than the initial Dominion attack on DS9 where Weyoun was surprised that the shields were blocking their weapons, and Dukat remarking that the Federation scientists/engineers are good. Presumably, the sensor logs from the Defiant when it got captured, the runabouts during the Odyssey attack, and the Defiant observing the Romulan/Cardassian defeat were enough for the Federation's top people to figure out how to make their shields work against the weapons.
      Gonna be honest, this was pretty bad writing; as it should have been explained better. And it was the start of the ridiculous RPG/anime power creep that happened in the series; where the Dominion was initially shown to be far far ahead of the Federation technologically, but then rapidly became weaker and not as big of a threat; as the writers wrote themselves into corners and couldn't figure out how to get out of it. Similar to Stargate SG-1 where the Go'uld went from being unstoppable and easily able to conquer the planet, to literal jokes and cannon fodder to be ridiculed later in the series.

      @@lamelama22 Thing about the dominion is they were dominators. They know nothing but war and ruling over people with weapons and fear. Federation is the complete opposite of that. Hence why they so easily fell to the borg initially. Same with the dominion. The Dominion stayed pretty strong until the end. At the final battle at cardassia.. the federation was about to retreat. Had it not been for the Cardassians rebellion against the Dominion they would of left the battle then and there due to lack of ships.
      On their own the dominon wreck the federation easily. Having Klingons, romulans, and cardasians pit against them even with the breen they wont stand a chance

I do love the original story but having Voyager make it to the far side of the Gamma Quadrant and be fighting nonstop with the Dominion only to have to return to the Delta Quadrant to avoid complete annihilation would have been great. If I remember correctly from some of the Star Trek maps that came out around that time, it might have actually been shorter for Voyager to head for the Gamma Quadrant terminus of the Bajoran wormhole than head back to the Alpha Quadrant directly. Based on Stardates Janeway would have been aware of the Dominion and the possibility of a hostile environment but the boundaries of the Dominion proper didn't seem to encompass the Idran system. • @TimberlakeTigerGirl
      @TimberlakeTigerGirl ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's a bit confusing because Voyager was declared officially lost in 2371, and the Dominion War began two years later. Voyager was originally supposed to take about 70 light years to get back home. But because of lucky jumps they got, especially once Q got involved, they returned home roughly 7 years after they disappeared. If memory serves correctly, the Dominion War had either just ended or they were in the final stages. If they arrived before the war was over, then that would explain why Sisko mentioned an Admiral Chakotay.
      Either that, or the writers of Voyager completely forgot about that and there are two men in Star Fleet who share the same last name.

      @Lava91point0 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shawna3394 This should be correct, except in the two parter "Flesh and Blood" where the Hirogen need voyagers help after the Holograms become homicidal. There's a scene when the Doctor is on the Holograms ship and see's them all modelled after different races that Star Fleet has encountered over the years, one is clearly a Jem'Hadar. I'd be lying if that didn't raise some questions for me, regarding the timelines. On one hand you could dismiss it as nothing more than an easter egg of sorts, but on the other, you conclude that the hologram database was somehow updated from their communications with the Alpha Quadrant in which case, Voyager was at least aware of the Dominion War and the races involved.

    • @shawna3394
      @shawna3394 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Lava91point0 Certain episodes of Voyager happened DURING the Dominion War, yes. There are many references about the war in Voyager. Just like the scene relatively early on in the series between Chakotay and Belanna where she tried to hurt herself to feel alive because of the news she received that all of the Macquis had been killed by a new ally of the Cardassians (aka The Dominon). Or the episode "Message in a Bottle" (Season 4, Epi 14) where the Doctor meets the EMH of the Prometheus and he mentions the Dominion War and the Romulans. But that's NOT Voyager being involved "in the war", or having anything to do with it. That's simply showing you a consistent timeline. Voyager was in the Delta Quadrant during the entirety of the war. And the 3 years after it.

      Borg technology helps with at least taking the punch. but from what I can read up the Borg hasn't had as much luck with the Dominion given there grand access to the Galaxy with there transwarp technology. Plus Voyager didnt have the update technology to deal with the Dominion phased Polaron. Voyager would have been torn to shreds. granted if they took the Gamma quadrant route instead it would have been a hit or miss to get home because they have no star charts of the Gamma quadrant at the time. They knew of a wormhole there. were its located is a shot in the vast dark. Plus with the Dominion ownes most of th Gamma quadrant Voyager wouldn't have lived the trek to finding the wormhole.

      Joseph Schultz• They were in Dominion Territory which would make it the Gamma Quadrant, Voyager is lost in the Delta Quadrant and trying to get home which is the Alpha Quadrant, they found a wormhole that got them from Delta to Gamma Quadrant In a matter of hours which under the best circumstances is a 70 year trip, if you watch Deep Space 9 there is a wormhole that leads from Alpha to Gamma, so the relevance to this is they were 7-10 days from home without actually knowing it.

      @@Kalenz1234 I really wanted to like the show. The premise was intriguing and I thought Kate Mulgrew had the bearing of a captain. But the show was too in-your-face PC, with the black Vulcan, the engineer who was half-Klingon, half-supermodel, and the doctor who was a little too human until they needed his special ability as a hologram. Then they brought in the shapely Jeri Ryan as an ex-borg crew member. I didn't mind that except her form-fitting outfit was a too distracting to take the show seriously. I imagine that the other female crew members were either offended or jealous.

    • @nicolasg7601
      @nicolasg7601 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zimster2000 This is insane. One black crewman and the show is “too in-your-face” PC? Is TNG too PC because Geordi exists? In fact TOS must have been the most PC of all because Uhura was a black woman. And Star Trek has done the half-human-alien thing since TOS with Spock too. The Doctor was a missed opportunity, sure - but it has nothing to do with “PC Culture”.
      Seven of Nine being too sexualized would literally be anti-PC and you’re complaining about that too. The idea that the other women were jealous is just bizarre, what makes you think they were?
      You know, Captain Janeway is white - she’s just a woman. Is the only thing that counts as a non “in-your-face-PC” show to you one with a necessarily male white captain and no black crewmen or mixed officers? Because then no Star Trek show has ever not been “too PC”.

    • @Zimster2000
      @Zimster2000 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nicolasg7601 Geordi was human, Tuvok was not. If Vulcans have the same skin as humans, then evolutionarily-speaking all Vulcans would probably be dark-skinned. But Vulcans were never black on any other series until Tuvok came along. I would have accepted a black captain, hey, Sisko was great! And they should've had more crewmen of color.But they had one regular black guy and he has the be the "alien" one.
      Uhura was also human but that was the 60's. I recall Whoopi Goldberg talking about watching Star Trek ToS and Uhura was she first black woman Whoopi had seen on TV who wasn't a maid. And apparently Ms Nichols was going to quit but Rev. ML King convinced her to stay on. So Uhura was NOT P.C., she was a revolutionary. Wasn't the kiss between Uhura and Kirk the first inter-racial kiss on TV?
      "The idea that the other women were jealous is just bizarre, what makes you think they were?" You really don't know women, do you? You should listen to them when they think you're not listening. Women compare themselves to other women all the time.

      Well they may have known about what's going on back at the Alpha quadrant with the Dominion. But Voyager didnt get the ship upgrades to withstand the Dominion Phased Polaron.. so on that account if Voyager did encounter the Dominion they wouldn't have lasted long since at the time the Federation shields didn't have a Defense against them. Lastly even if they did get there upgrades the lone Voyager didnt have a star chart of the Gamma quadrant to know were the wormhole was and the Gamma quadrant was mainly ruled by the Dominion. with no cloaking Voyager would have been destroyed just trying to find the hole.
