This song saved me from the worst suicidal depression of my life. 13 years later, it's a reminder of my resiliance, what i can overcome, and power of the right music at the right time. I did hold on to hope and i did change my ways, and i know the woman i am today has the strength to make it through anything.

I'm happy for you, this band made me got into music and wanting to be an artist since 2015 when I was 10 and 2 years ago I was 17 making very stupid decisions like drugs and alcoholism getting drunk almost everyday until the point I thought this is it until I was listening to Little Lion Man and that changed me and I was like what am I doing and since then I have been trying to clean myself, I'm doing ok, I am more responsible with alcohol , not on drugs anymore. And I'm glad people relate to me and who has similar experience. and thank you for sharing your story so I wanna share mine ❤❤❤❤

Mumford and Sons represents the era of folk pop that I miss terribly. Such a feeling of bittersweet nostalgia. I can only hope that another similar era of music is upon us soon!

Yup. I think the folk pop and EDM pop of 2009-2011 and the experimental rock pop of 2012-2015 were some interesting eras

I’m approaching the age of 30 and I feel this comment so deeply. This era of music was riding the crest of the wave just as I was becoming a young adult, and I have so many beautiful and exiting and powerful memories to it.
Bittersweet nostalgia is the perfect descriptor.

Yeah you don’t hear bands like this, Guster, Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire anymore… at least not in the mainstream. Really gotta dig. We call it an era because a lot of people liked those sorts of bands and there was a lot to choose from. I also wish for a revival of Folk/folk pop. I think some people decided it was “hipster” music and was cringe or something and the demand went down, but bands like Fleet Foxes and others in that genre are SO underrated. ❤

I just had the urge to listen to some of mumford's songs, it's hard to believe this is 14 years old already. My mom and I used to listen to them because we loved their music. She passed away several years ago but hearing these songs makes me both happy and sad at the memories. I'm thankful that mumford and sons exists though, for having those moments with her.

When this song was on the radio I was living alone with my alcoholic mother. When we finally got evicted she lied to me and told me we had to move in with her boyfriend (who I barely knew) because she had a stalker, and that we'd have to empty my bank account to do it. I was working for barely more than minimum wage at the time. I knew she was lying because that's just what she did. I packed my stuff into my car, ignored her screaming the whole time, and drove off and that was the last time I saw her for 2 years. This song came on just as I was getting on the highway.
Today I'm doing very well: I have a good job and a nice apartment and I'm learning how to cultivate healthy relationships. And to this day I still can't hear this song without breaking down in tears: for me it commemorates the single biggest turning point in my life.

My ex-wife was an alcoholic as well, Amanda. She made me feel so worthless that I basically felt like I HAD to stay with her or I'd forever be alone because no one else would could possibly care about me. This song always reminds me of her BS and I completely understand you on the "turning point" in life. Just over 3 years apart now and feeling much better. I truly wish you good luck on patching things up with your mom. A marriage can eventually be gotten over and forgotten about, a mother-daughter bond can not.

I can relate. I just had to break up with a crazy ex who I used to love but used pot as self medication for bipolar who tried to use her siren's call on me but I would not hear what she had to say. She was great in tbe beginning but over the past year, she gaslit me, emotionally and mentally abused me, and even slapped me, knowing my past with an abusive ex gf, tried to stab me in the face with a fork during a fight, and insulted the gf I dated before her, who passed away in 2018. Even saying she looked like a B-based slur that's used towards Latinos. Both the deceased ex and I are of partial Spanish and Portuguese origin so this was extremely insulting. Same goes towards her saying I had a "Dann J3w nose" while I am also someone who has a bit of Ashkenazi heritage.
I can relate to you in this sense 100% and hope you find better days

I joined the Mumford and Sons fan group way to late. I only discovered them about 6 months ago. They deserved so much more fame then they got. They put so much passion into their music. They don’t sing terrible lyrics like the current pop singers do. They made deep lyrics like Simon and Garfunkel used to. Their current music just isn’t the same. There are some good ones like forever, but it is missing the vibe these old songs have. I don’t know if there are many people like me, just wishing they could have been around to hear them play their old songs like where are you now or there will be time. I doubt there will ever be a band quite like them again.

The darkest time of my life, 20+ years ago, never had a song that summed it up until I heard this for the first time. The pain, suffering, and eventual triumph of light over darkness, all encapsulated in a simple melody and lyrics. Every couple years I fire it up again to remind myself of what I endured and survived. Rock on survivors, look at and appreciate every new day as the miracle it is, and every sunset as if it might be your last. Drink deep from the cup of life and make the world a better place for having you in it.

I'm in a healthy relationship with a fellow autistic girl and my ex sits at her friend's house smoking dabs and drinking like the unemployed and unemployable loser she is. I believe the "you" in this song is an abuser. In my opinion you have to look at the next line to make sense of the first one: "the harvest left no fruit for you to eat, you cannibal, you meat-eater." In other words, they have nothing that belongs to them because of their self-destructive tendencies and they have to become predators to the fruits of labor to those around them.

I grew up in a fairlly Christian country but my parents and none of my surrounding adults were religious, if anything they were theologists and ethymoloigsts.
When I first listeneds to this song it reminded me of the greeky myths I read as a child, including Odysseus / Ulysses escaping the Cyclop by either crawling among sheep or hanging upside down from their bellies by clutching onto their wool. And while I know there are many Christian and also Mythical influiences on their music, Mumford and Sons gave me a push towards defining divinity for myself with songs like this. There is a certain divine presence in ourselves and we, as human beings, get to decide what that means.
But by the end of thje day what is most important is to keep anything alive alive and that while we might have different ideas, we are all human and we want other humans happy and healthy.
Imho, what makes us human is kindness and kinship. And I don't care if my life only influences a single human to make their day better. I want to be a positive or happy influence, even for just a second :3

The very first time that I had seen this song on MTV, it got me excited. Something which no one notices. The entire video is short at Goa, India. The scooters used are local scooters for hire by Tourists in Goa. The men dressed as the band players are Goans. Well the music is theirs but the video scenes belong to Goa. Fond memories, as how Goa was so peaceful in those years.

    This song makes me cry
To me this song means a lot, I am a survivor, a survivor of anxiety, depression..
    And cancer.
I hide all my feelings and I need to come out of MY cave. When I was little I told my dad I took a depression test and had 98% (Severe Depression) and because I hid my feelings for a while actually, he said “No, your to happy” I ran to my room and started crying and saying to myself “This is what you get for not telling him sooner, you deserve this” I ran away from home and ran into the woods, I found someone doing suicide and they tied themselves on a rope, and died, it had been the worst day of my life, I ran back home and my dad found me running in, of corse he got mad and started yelling, he didn’t listen to what I said, he just yelled. At the time I had no friends but the next day at school, there was someone new in the class, we got to know each other and up to this day, we are still best friends, and we sing this song to each other when we’re feeling down ever since we were little, it sounds childish to others but when you do something for a while, you stick to it. We actually live together in an apartment and I’m at my first year in collage, I’m stressed about it, but it’s working out, and she has a part time job at McDonald’s.
I hope whoever is reading this has a great day!
