Heard this at summer camp in 2012. The energy on the dance floor was unmatched. Everyone was young, no responsibilities and just living life to the fullest. This song perfectly captured that moment of being young and unstoppable. No phones were on that dance floor. Everyone was just enjoying that moment. Years went by and I had no idea what this song was called. Then, this week, I found it. From that iconic banjo intro, I immediately knew this was the song. Makes me feel like I’m still at summer camp when I hear it.

Coming from religious family and community, the “F” word was never in my vocabulary growing up. To this day, I would never swear in front of my mother. When my son started saying this word while he was gaming or would listen to music with it as part of the lyrics, I would get very upset. I complained about it to a wise friend who gave me this advice: “It’s only a word and sometimes the only one that truly fits the situation. Pick your battles.” Once I gave up being so offended by the “word”, it gave me a chance to feel the feelings behind the use of it. Thanks friend. #wisefriend
Did he use it in gaming out of anger, or to convey emotions like this song? Because while it's good not to be offended by the word, I'd definitely still get involved if he gets angry at a game.
Religion separates people. Lets just wake tf up.. oops!!🙊..just ask urself who ur really praying to..ull get it.. But whats puzzling you is just the nature of "his" game.. RollingStones wrote a song about "it"..its called Sympathy to....ahhhh i forget the rest.. Stay safe friend 💕OneLove

Take care, I hope you know his heart is in a good place now ( not that it already wasn’t ) I’m sure he loves you even more that he did before and he wouldn’t mind you mourning but if that affects your mental health, he just wants you to be your best. ❤️
This is the first time I've heard this. I'm not ashamed to say I've had a dreadful month, perhaps the worst of my entire life. I've struggled, been hurt and I didn't know what to even do. Where were I to go after everything? It hurt so much and while I don't feel completely better yet, this helped alot. It's nice knowing, just even for a moment, that I'm not responsible for all my downfalls. I'll forever be grateful for this song for that reason. Here's to a better future, and a hopeful one at that.
Sometimes people can't understand how they hurt people. They can't every say the words this song has. "I realy fucked up this time, didn't I my dear..." I wish someone would say that but we all know that one person who can't.
I feel the same people say things straight to my face like “Your ugly” or “you need to get braces” Its the worst feelings to have,i used to be happy But now im now, where did I go arong
Nearly 2023 and this still gives me shivers down my spine. I can’t believe this song is nearly 15 years old time sure flies by. This song takes me back to a different era it reminds me of the early 00s for some reason. These guys are so talented and that banjo wow goosebumps.
This song saved my life. I left the love of my life because I didn't think I was enough for her. I left her in another country. I came back... absolutely nothing for me here. I sat in the city, no food or money, just waiting to die. A few days passed and this this song came on. A construction crew just a door down had this playing. I cried. Cried unlike I ever have or would again. It reached me like no song ever could. I got up. I came home. I could move on. Thank you. I think you saved my life.
I have no idea why this song makes me cry. It has no association. It just does. It just be touching something deep inside and I don’t even know what. Coming here and reading the comments I can see I’m not alone.
forever leaves a nostalgic feeling in my heart whenever i listen to this. singing and playing it at midnight, beside the campfire with my family , my brother joining me, not bothered with much else before i had to go back to my normal reality & deal with the inevitable ruin of some of the most important relationships of my life. yet, i smile at the memories. so bittersweet.
I know no one is going to see this but… Today my dog was put down at the age of fifth teen. I feel devastated by this loss, because it was my first. I got home from school and this song was playing. I made me burst into tears, but right away it felt she was there by me. Thanks for the amazing song.
My brother who passed 7 years ago loved Mumford and Sons and my Dad made a video of pics of him and our family with this and bunch of their other songs. I always think of him when I listen to this 😢
I remember when I was 5, my mom played this song through the house, and then the next day, my parents got a divorce. I was broken. Today I decided to have a nostalgia trip, but now I’m crying my eyes out, while having to call my dad who lives 3 hours away. I miss you
My heart :(( you will always have a dad and mom as long as they live. They may not be together now, but their love for you will always remain in them. Nothing was your fault. Sometimes things just happen.
I agree. Profanity should probably be judged by one's intentions. Here, the intentions seem to simply give expression to a strong emotion which cannot be aired without the expletive.

Yeah misery doesn’t love company but the world changed after losing 2 brothers by the age of 32. It was soul shaking for me. It’s very raw for you and I’m only 33 years old now. If you have any questions or just want to talk to a piece of this world (me) I’m literally almost available if I’m not sleeping (pacific standard time). Losing a brother isn’t fun.
Gosh has it been 12 years since this song. Listening to this gives me both sadness and peace. Life has changed so drastically and none of the people I used to know then are with me now. I still tear up at certain parts of the melody and lyrics but I have no idea why. I don’t need a reason just the feeling is enough
My mom used to play this song when I was little and I'm 15 now and a few days ago it popped back into my head I'm so glad I found it again it brings back so many memories of me and her when we were on the road
Mate, I came here to see if anyone else was here for that exact reason! The fact that someone has such similar memories associated with the same song is beautiful
Michael Knicely so true. I first heard this song 2 days after it came out. Ever since that day I’ve been listening to this on repeat. It just doesn’t hit the same as it used to 😭

You know, I grew up with underground rap. Untill the age of 18, rap was everything for me. Afer that age, I started listening to rock music, I loved it. And afterwards, I encountered amazing artists like Natalie Walker, Imagine Dragons, Lana Del Ray, R.E.M., Youth, Of Monsters and Men, Patrick Watson, Papermaps, Peter Bradley Adams, Andrew Belle, Snow Patrol and many others. But when i started listening to Mumford and Sons, it was one of the best days of my life. They can't be compared with anyone else. I hope they will get recognized world wide as they deserve. One of my dreams remain to see them live someday.
I remember when I first heard this song .. I was drawing in our living room, I must have been an early teenager, I'm 30 now, I was in love with their sound and how I absolutely loved trying to sing like them. I think my mom got annoyed after I played this song about the millionth time while she was working.
This song has and continues to get me through the hardest parts of my life. I'm young, I know my parents think my problems are small, but to me their huge- But even when I'm crying my eyes out and I feel hopeless, I plug in an earbud and just listen to this and it gives me something. I don't know what, but perhaps it's hope, a strength that I don't have any other time. It makes me think that even if life sucks right now, even if I feel like I'm alone in a vast sea- One day, if I just keep a strong smile and never stop rowing I'll find an Island. When I do it'll be where I belong, and I'll be happier than I've ever been here. One day, when I have kids, I wanna sing them this song and tell them about how I felt so that one day when they go through the same thing they'll know they're not alone- And they'll know that I'm here for them and love them. That's all I could ever ask for.
This song will always be in my heart my cat was hit by a car on the main road. When we was in the ambulance going to the vet this song was on it always remind me off young Frank who didn't pull through. To celebrate we had a bbq in Frank's honour and he tasted lovely.
Can’t believe it’s been this long. I obsessed over Mumford and Sons in high school. It was the hipster band we’d listen to in coffee shops. It’s on my Spotify playlist labeled “Chill Painting Music”
A few videos of this song are blocked in my country for some reason (Australia) This song keeps mesmerising me over how many instruments play with each other in the chorus
"Now learn from your mother or you'll spend your days biting your own neck" I love my mother dearly, she has had the worst of traumas occur in her life. When I was a bit younger I was selfish, and blamed her for everything that went wrong, including what's wrong with me. Now she's near 60 and her injuries from abusive relationships are really taking a toll on her. I want to cry everytime I see her hurt because it hurts me. And when shes gone its gonna be the hardest time of my life. But I know all she wants is for us kids of hers to be happy. I'll always love you mama. I'll do everything to keep you safe.

I’m only 13 right now but I realized that adults were right. Don’t be in a rush to grow up because you’ll miss being young. Every time I listen to this song it reminds me of the time when I was about 3 and my parents had to play this for me because it was the only thing that would get them to brush my teeth. They were the first concert I ever went to. Sophomore yr of HS. Well, the summer after anyways lol. Anyways, that was my first experience of an outside concert setting with people smoking different things all around me (that was also the same year vaping started being mainstream, that I remember, so a lot of people blowing raspberry and lemonade scented vapor near me). I don't remember the 2 opening bands, they were like some local bands I guess. But once M&S's came on stage, it was an ethereal experience for me. I'll never forget it, and I'm glad that was my first concert. It was also in an amazing place, like the perfect setting. I'm from New Mexico, and the concert was up in Taos, at the Kit Carson park. If you know, you know. It was amazing. I've been to many concerts since then, but that one definitely stands out as one of my favorites. I have this whole album on my kindle and its in my shuffle for my "vibing" playlist. I usually play it when I have friends over that are smoking and we're all drinking. This song in particular always gets to me. For many reasons, many experiences tied to it. But it invokes the same feelings as it does for most people, from what I've read in these comments. This band is amazing and I wish they were hyped up more, but I also like that they're not so mainstream, except for a few songs, like how I Will Wait was, people think they're a "one hit wonder" because they've only heard that song, but I'd rather it stay that way. Too many great bands/artists get mainstreamed and then they lose sight of their original roots and their sound changes and they're not good anymore. I'm happy keeping M&S's in the dark from most mainstream 😊🥰
This song, I listened to a lot when I asked my now fiancée for a break. She was devastated all because I felt confused about something and feeling uncertain and doubting things. I listen to this song now as a promise to never hurt her like that again as it was without a doubt, the biggest mistake of my life. I have made many many big mistakes but that one was the biggest I've ever made.

Or in my case, as my life is a sad phase, a state of confused happiness

Coming from religious family and community, the “F” word was never in my vocabulary growing up. To this day, I would never swear in front of my mother. When my son started saying this word while he was gaming or would listen to music with it as part of the lyrics, I would get very upset. I complained about it to a wise friend who gave me this advice:
“It’s only a word and sometimes the only one that truly fits the situation. Pick your battles.”
Once I gave up being so offended by the “word”, it gave me a chance to feel the feelings behind the use of it.
Thanks friend. #wisefriend
Did he use it in gaming out of anger, or to convey emotions like this song?
Because while it's good not to be offended by the word, I'd definitely still get involved if he gets angry at a game.
That's a wonderful story and a very poignant thought
Religion separates people. Lets just wake tf up..
oops!!🙊..just ask urself who ur really praying to..ull get it.. But whats puzzling you is just the nature of "his" game.. RollingStones wrote a song about "it"..its called Sympathy to....ahhhh i forget the rest..

I'm sorry for your loss. I just lost my grandpa a few months ago and he didn't have a funeral
Hope both you and your mother found peace.
Stay 💪🏻
You got this man. I lost my grandfather 5 months ago just keep at it thats what he would want you to do
Take care, I hope you know his heart is in a good place now ( not that it already wasn’t )
I’m sure he loves you even more that he did before and he wouldn’t mind you mourning but if that affects your mental health, he just wants you to be your best.
I feel the same people say things straight to my face like
“Your ugly” or “you need to get braces”
Its the worst feelings to have,i used to be happy
But now im now, where did I go arong
Praying for you keep yo head up 💯🙏🏻
A TOAST TO YOUR FUTURE!!!! 🍷
Hope you're okay now mate
I hope you're still going, don't give up
where is the tacobell at?
Hope you're doing alright and still going at it. This song hit me hard too. Take care of yourself.

it's an incredible, euphoric feeling that they give, their music is amazing.

Bring back the old Mumford and sons. We need that energy back today.
I was literally just saying this yesterday!!❤
Amazing how speaking out on a different from mainstream topic can ruin a good thing. Their music hasnt been the same since.
forever leaves a nostalgic feeling in my heart whenever i listen to this.
singing and playing it at midnight,
beside the campfire with my family ,
my brother joining me, not bothered with much else before i had to go back to my normal reality & deal with the inevitable ruin of some of the most important relationships of my life.
yet, i smile at the memories.
so bittersweet.
I know no one is going to see this but…
Today my dog was put down at the age of fifth teen. I feel devastated by this loss, because it was my first. I got home from school and this song was playing. I made me burst into tears, but right away it felt she was there by me. Thanks for the amazing song.

they played their hearts out in this. that banjo jam you can just feel the hurt. this song makes me wish my dad was different
I remember when I was 5, my mom played this song through the house, and then the next day, my parents got a divorce. I was broken. Today I decided to have a nostalgia trip, but now I’m crying my eyes out, while having to call my dad who lives 3 hours away. I miss you

How did the F-word become poetic? How did they pull it off? It's practically a miracle.
+John6forty-eight Its still amazing though
Good point. . .
I agree. Profanity should probably be judged by one's intentions. Here, the intentions seem to simply give expression to a strong emotion which cannot be aired without the expletive.

Hello I'm the recent comment that loves this band...
listening to this song and driving through the Sierra's in California is the most peaceful thing I can ever do.
The sierras sound like the perfect place to listen to this song
You'll get through it homie
One day when you have kids and they ask you dad how did I get through this you will have an answer cuz you got through it. So keep it pushing my dawg💪
