    Hello there! First time here today, due to the fact I myself have owned a Kimber Micro 9, now for a couple months, after treating myself for a smaller concealed carry handgun, after my poor previous choice of a Glock 23,gen4,.40 cal, I bought thinking only about firepower/price/dependability, not realizing how difficult concealing in sunny Florida would be! I went with the Kimber because I inherited a Colt Mustang , off an uncle who had bought back in the early 80’s, a first generation Mark IV Series 80, as its technically known by, till being called Mustang in 1986, after some improvements. All were just .380. Between smallish cal. along with value, monetary an sentimental, I never considered using it for concealed carry. But I’ve wanted a Kimber for a while now. Side by side the Kimber is much nicer looking, while shooting better with harder hitting ammo. Plus my uncle had run at least 800 rounds through, before I ran at least another hundred, so even though it’s well cared for, it does show some wear. My Micro 9 is a two tone Rosewood, without Crimson Sites. I have added the MCARBO spring kits, that are very nice to ease the shots. But right out of the box I got a 5” group at 10 yards, 8” at 15 yards and all 7 within a man sized paper target at 20 yards, in 7 seconds! With all kinds of ammo! Very nice little handgun!

      Very nice! I'd like to pick up a Colt Mustang some day, just to add to the collection. Glad you like the Kimber. Be safe and enjoy!

      How is your frame holding up? Any light striking issues? I had installed the mccarbo kit and crusader trigger in my micro 9 and it was great until I started to notice slight wear on the frame from the slide battering it. Even with a heavier recoil spring added! And I’d get light strikes on certain types of ball ammo, even though I had cut down the firing pin spring to try and alleviate that issue. Before these problems I absolutely loved the 2.5lbs trigger but I’ve recently put all the stock parts back in because I need the reliability and I don’t like the idea of having early wear on a gun that I really like.

    • @52156drj
      @52156drj 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm also using the MCarbo spring kit. It really helped to lighten the trigger pull. Big difference.

      Same. I've got a Glock 23, .40 cal and it was just too damn big and bulky to carry concealed. Just picked up this Kimber Micro 9mm today at a gun show. Much more comfortable to carry. Can't wait to fire it!!

    I have the micro 9 stg. I carry it over my 365 and m&p. Why? Because I love the the feel in my hand. It feels heavier but isn't. It allows me to put 7 rnds on target more quickly than my other compacts. Lastly 1 failure in approximately 1000 rounds of mostly target ammo gives me confidence that when I pull the trigger with HST ammo I will hit.

      @@conradsenior5843 Most people will complain about a guns functionality and do nothing about it. I sent mine back to Kimber after experiencing a problem with a broken firing pin (due to using steel cased ammo). They did a tune-up and some polishing. I've put a lot of rounds through it since then and it's been 100% reliable. FMJ's and HP's feed and eject perfectly. I have no worries when it comes to carrying my Micro 9.

    When I hear people being critical of Kimber I find that those people got into fireams more recently and they are just parroting what they have heard in some cases. Before Kimber's were mass produced and the prices came down they were Cadillac 1911s. I'd like to fire a newer one to see where the quality went downhill in the opinions of other people. As long as the firearm has a decent warranty, any defect should be addressed. I'd like to form an opinion myself. Glad the gun performed well for you and you liked it.

    Hi Richard the man who started Kimber Leslie Edelman. Owned a huge gun store in New York just over the city line in Nassau county. So anyone who wanted a long gun and lived I the 5 boroughs of NYC went there if you didn't want to register the piece. We didn't have pictures on a NYS drivers license. I guess he saw the writing on the wall and started Kimber. The good old days. They had everything probably dozens of ARs, AKs and everything else. He quietly closed one day. Then a few other stores popped up and are one of two still there.

      No, I understood. I was just saying that most people seem to have an issue with the second round, I have no idea why though, I have experienced it myself a couple times. It's odd that yours does that though. I don't know if maybe your chamber is a little rough and the heat from the first round is enough to expand it, letting the successive rounds eject properly or if there's something else going on. Does it do it on a cold barrel, a warm barrel or does it matter?

No problem whatsoever. I also have no buildup of any kind )p(yet). Maybe I’ll let it get a little dirty to see if that changes anything. I was just about to clean it. So maybe it’s just a little better when it’s new? I guess I’ll find out soon enough. I bought around 1000 rounds to tool around with so I’ll get a good understanding of what you’re talking about soon enough. Hopefully they fixed the issue by now but somehow I doubt it. If you didn’t break in your Kimber properly or limp wrist it. It’s the weapons fault. If you held the slide back a little and the round doesn’t seat properly it isn’t the weapons fault.

  • @daffidavit
    @daffidavit 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    OK, today I went to an outdoor stragic range . It's a solo outside range with multiple similar ranges all at least 1000 ft. or longer depending on what you want. I brought my Kimber Micro 9; my Kimber Stainless Stainless II (.45ACP); my H&K P2000; my Walther P99, and my Sig Sauer .40S&W (converted barrel from a .40S&W to a .357 Sig) and my Glock 30 (.45acp). In summary, I loaded each gun with high performance hollowpoints, some of which had the little plastic red points at the end (I'm keeping brand names secret for the purposes of this comment).
    First, I will never again carry a Kimber Micro 9 as a self defense weapon, ever again. Especially with ammo that is non-target ammo. It is worthless for confidence with hollow point ammo. is simply untrustworthy. It's also the least accurate of all the handguns that I own, not just for the horrible trigger pull, but for the very short sight radius.
    Second, the Kimber Stainless II 1911 .45 ACP functioned perfectly, even with Kimber mags, and had similar accuracy as the Glock 30 (.45ACP).
    The converted Sig Sauer 40S&W to a .357 was a dream. I thought I was shooting too far left and low, but my videos showed otherwise. I was shooting pretty much near center.
    My highly coveted HP 2000 now needs to go to a gunsmith. It was built, you guessed it, in year 2000 ( actually 2001) and always shot .40 S&W very well. But as soon as I loaded .40 hollow points into it, one of the bullets failed to feed and was ejected. The next is still jammed in the barrel. I can not rack the slide at all to free it. There is no way for me to fix the jammed bullet in the barrel. I need to hire a gunsmith to fix it.
    The Sig Sauer conversion from .40 SW to a new barrel of .357 seems to have worked perfectly, even with newer ammo like hollowpoints with the plastic red tip for advanced aerodynamic capabilities.
    The best performing guns were my Walther P99 (9mm) and the Canik Elite TPS 9mm. Both worked flawlessly, even with Russian ammo which I purchased before the Ukrainian war began. So as to justify the use of Russian ammo, I made believe Putin was on the target of what I was shooting at.
    So, that is my today's assessment of target ammo and "special" ammo with guns that are as old as 2000 and as new as 2022. If you own a carry gun, I highly recommend you test them with several kinds of ammo at the range before you depend your life on it. JMHO.

    So I have been looking at adding an ambi safety to my micro 9 and am wondering if the standard 1911 safety is compatible or does this require something diffferent?

  • @conradsenior5843
    @conradsenior5843 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Pluses: I like the 1911 style, slender design and with the extended magazine with pinky extension-- it feels very comfortable. I have a number of the rounded extended magazines I plan to sell and replace with the better magazine. With the flush magazine, it is very compact and a pinky under the base feels good. The rounded extended magazines are poorly designed IMO and I regret purchasing them.
    I have two of these.
    One with a laser grip in tan slide and grips and black frame. I find I turn off the laser as instead of pulling the trigger I am pulling at the laser. I often get my finger in the way of the laser which makes it useless and a distraction. The laser needs to be above the bottom of the slide slightly. It is too close to the level of the trigger and often obscured by my trigger finger. I find the gun works better without the laser. Using the iron sights, it is surprisingly accurate.
    Even so I had many failure to fires, failures to lock the slide back (due to my holding method, closer to me and looser grip-- a spring change would help that), and some failure to feed factory ball ammo as well as Golden Saber 124 gr BJHP. When such mishaps occur it is not a simple matter to clear the gun. It is a slow process to remove the magazine and then remove un-fired rounds. At the range, I often just put the gun down as I don't want to waste my time trying to clear a troublesome gun. I was having so many problems, I put it down after a while and switched to a different gun.
    Second one:
    I bought another one, for looks alone. I looked at a display piece with a trigger lock and asked for a fresh untouched gun, which they had and provided for me. I'm confident the dealer, Bass Pro Shops did not play with the gun other than to install a trigger lock.
    I thought it might be a good fit for my niece. However it may be too complicated for a scared woman to use. Then there are the other issues. I will probably buy her a reliable light weight revolver. I have a weakness for stainless steel. This special edition is lovely to look at. Stainless slide, white grips and baby blue frame. A show piece.
    I have had this beautiful Special Edition with the Stainless Steel slide and white grips for one day not even 24 hours.
    Well I have not even fired it and it is going back to the shop. I cannot pull the hammer back without fussing with it. One time in THREE I cannot fully cock the hammer. It often gets caught one click back. I can get it fully cocked if I cycle the safety, pull the trigger while pulling the hammer or various combinations of that. I have better luck using my left thumb, which works to cock the hammer. Racking the slide or using my right thumb will not cock the gun every time. If locked in that first click it is a battle to get it to release, and it eventually does. I suspect there is something wrong with the sear.
    For these reasons, I would never recommend this gun, for personal protection. It is not a reliable gun. If it fails right out of the box and need to go back to the factory on day one, how can you count on it when in trouble? You can't.
    I would also recommend avoiding hollow point ammo although my problems were mostly with ball ammo and I have not fired much with hollow points as yet. No point in making an unreliable firearm less reliable. Of all the guns I've owned, this has been the least reliable.

    • @SmallCaliberArmsReview
      @SmallCaliberArmsReview  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have heard several people say they were unreliable. I didn't have any issues with the one I used in the video, neither did the owner. @@SmallCaliberArmsReview after returned from Kimber it still does not work. I returned it to Bass ProShops and they freaked out because they could not open the slide to validate it was unloaded. I was able to show them how with some fussing to get it open. They never accept returns on firearms and did this time because Kimber demonstrated they do not know how to inspect a firearm. To be fair, I think Bass ProShops screwed up and informed them it was a failure to feed. It was a hammer/sear issue. Kimber reamed the chamber, polished the ramps, breech face, and firing pin, test fired it with a box of shells but did not solve the actual problem. Kimber as a serious problem with processing information--I called and emailed them, and they tossed the information aside once I told them Bass was shipping it back. Additionally, they do not know how to test a firearm for all sorts of faults. Their lack of attention to their process is there MAJOR fault.

      So I wrote Kimber an email, furious at the condition of the gun, furious that snowflake phone guy Phuckup would not address the issue, and the fact Kimber did not have a thorough process for properly ensuring the quality of their guns such that my firearm made it out of their shop twice--still broken.
      Bottom line: They do not have a method to track phone calls or emails and tie it to the firearms. They do not have a process for ensuring their firearms work properly. Firing one or two rounds is NOT SUFFICIENT. This is a concealed carry gun. I paid a premium for a special edition. And it was broken right out of the box. Bass ProShops had several of these. I specifically asked for one that was not used for display. It was untouched after shipment.
      The problem lay entirely with the Kimberciles.

    How great a gun ? If Kimber figures a way to get a double stack 10 round mag in there it will set sales records. It's not overpriced. The plastic guns are ridiculously overpriced.
