You said the magic word. I subscribed. I'd love to learn more about gun smithing. Am Canadian, am neutered by many laws. Have done alterations to pistols, rifles etc. But would love to see what would be involved in building my own rifle from scratch. 100% manufacture by me. Rifling... Maybe.
Sounds like you need a wet bench at least to mag(MPI) your steel parts. Aluminum would be tough to verify there aren't any processing defects without ultrasonic equipment. Would love more metal and gunsmithing stuff in this space.
I was kind of thinking I would notice defects as material is milled away. For instance the mag well is a large space of removed material, should be plenty of opportunity to see what is going on deeper. Worst case, they go back in the crucible and try again lol. If my 3D printed lowers hold up, surely even imperfect aluminum will do the trick. And to clarify, they wouldn't be sold or anything. Just a fun personal project.
@knowlzy0791 does sound like a cool vein to put metal working content out from my end though as I don't see it much as a QC NDT person who likes firearms and gunsmithing. I'd make content about it if I owned my own equipment. X-ray damaged firearms and parts, as well. I know they shoot every new ordinance they find abroad and the pictures are dope.

@knowlzy0791 Benefits of growing up on a farm. I got into this in 2021 and went all in building a range area. Paths thru trees, a few clearings, can get out to 740 yards easy. If shoot across a road and/or railroad track I could get back to a mile 🤣 But that gets a bit sketchy lobbing over a road. But no traffic, so I've considered it.

@knowlzy0791 I could go to some other land, but this place I made is 3 miles from where I grew up. Made cool paths. Can set up match stages, run and gun stuff and go out to work on longer range skills at the same property. And 15 mins from town if something goes wrong. Other land would be an air lift away 🤣 You know, that is not the best if it can be avoided. I'll build another range in the future. Too many projects right now. But, I am getting enough people who want to do things to help when I'm ready to commit to a larger space. Best thing, it's private and I have sheriff's deputies and game wardens that keep people off!!
