The straps are attached backwards so that the quick-release buckle behaves exactly like the fold-over on a bracelet. Try it the other way and your muscle-memory will fight the buckling. Mine does, anyway. No worries, this piece is no Fake-O. Looks great. Cheers!
mrfuriouser Yes, after having it for a day I realised that, the only thing that makes it awkward is the strap being on the outside. It’s probably worth a mention when I do the review.
Your Seiko is genuine!!! There were a lot made, so even though it is discontinued there are a lot of them left. They are drying up, so prices will continue to rise. Enjoy your new Seiko!
The watch was designed by a famous cocktail barman in Japan. The strap is that way round so when you're holding a drink, ppl looking at you only see the best of the strap. The overhang is towards you not other ppl. In other words it looks nicer while holding a cocktail. I know it sounds mad but it's true. Just change it if you don't like it. It's the only watch they do this on.
Thanks for uploading this. Helped me to buy this. I was looking at the same watch, last April, but wasn't sure how genuine this was. Searched on TH-cam for fakes. Viewed you video and amazingly this was from the same seller, so bought this straight after. Came exactly as yours down to the packaging. Watch looked genuine and has worked perfectly since. Changed the strap for a Eache Tan Leather from Amazon for £12. Looks great also bought the blue which also matched perfectly. Thanks Again.
the reason that strap is upside down is a little bit more complicated, this position allows the free end of the strap to be on an inner side of your wrist, so it is not visible for others, and it makes the general look of the watch a little bit more crisp and clean. Wish you lots of fun having this timepiece, thanks for video!
Your watch was made in September 2017 and that movement is identical in appearance to the 4R movements found in the Presage range of Cocktail Time watches that replaced the SARB 065. It looks like it was at least 2 to 3 years old when you bought it.
Don't know so much. In my defence I don't own one of these, still looked a little slow to get going. I do have a few higher end Seiko's, they start before I have taken them off the pillow. I am sorry to have misjudged this Seiko
No.its great that you got engaged and made some comments, they are much appreciated. The replacement of this watch is a slightly different design for a worldwide market and has different packaging
I got my Alpinist off of Gizmo, pretty happy with it. I did hear other people had a couple of problems with shipping and other stuff though, guess I got lucky.
I have been watching your video on your Seiko - SARB065. This is a fake watch. I do not know of a patent leather strap on this model from new. You have not shown the watch running at this stage. Given the way you are moving it around I would have expected the watch to run as you have for the most part had the crown in. The anti-reflection is terrible but not a true giveaway. On this model I would hope for anti-reflection. Some more expensive models do not have AR coating. If I was to put this watch on a beat-rate test it should run at 20600 or about 6 beats per second with an amplitude of at least 260 until it settles. I can't remember ever seeing a long box and the manual looks wrong. The tabs on the strap look really cheap. The guarantee should still read international. Last thing, I haven't seen this yet. This watch should come with an exhibition case back. I will look at the rest of your video to see if I was close
I bought one of these a year ago for about $400 on Amazon. Right now they are listed on Amazon and are selling on eBay for about 3 times that amount. Mine now has a small scratch on the crystal right over the Seiko logo so I'm sure that hurts it's value a bit. I also replaced the band with an alligator skin band, but I have the original in storage still.
I got mine for just under $400 with insurance because of an ebay coupon Dec 2018. Now I'm looking around and they are 800-1000!!! What happen. Also everything about your watch looks identical to mine down to box, paperwork, marking etc. My understanding is the only difference is earlier model sarb065 have a movement labeled "6r15c" where the newer are "6r15d", with the difference only being manufactured before or after some date that I don't know
You're kind of on the right lines... the SARB065 was discontinued and replaced by a Pressage version with a lesser movement, therefore the Sarbs have a premium in price. the 6R15D is just the latest version of the 6R15 movement
LOOK WHAT HAPPENED to the SARB017 "Alpinist" when Seiko announced the discontinuation. It shot up about $200 dollars overnight. Now that the Seiko "Pressage" is here (they look identical) SARBs are definitely on the "buy, buy" list, for sure.
StellarBlue1 And I reckon there’s no rush to buy an Alpinist or the SARBs 033 & 035, there’s probably a warehouse full of them after the discontinuation waiting to be sold
Last Watch - I think you are correct. While it may not happen, I am hoping that the seller's market on the SARB017 will die down a bit, after the shock and horror of discontinuation wears off. As decent a watch the Alpinist may be, $500+ is not a real attractive price for a watch of the SARB017 caliber. At least not at this time...
StellarBlue1 I do hope so, I guess if you can pick up a Cocktail time a year on then the same might be true of all the other SARBs. I reckon some shall we say entrepreneurs will have bought loads of these and might well price them sensibly after the rush to buy has ceased.
Oh dear, watching on. The watch should have started right away upon winding or with a shake. Now the hour markers do not seem the quality of a Cocktail time.
Did you find out if it was fake or legit yet? I just purchased a sarb065 with 79 as the first 2 digits of the serial number just like yours and with the 6R15D movt. I did research and found out that those first 2 digits represent the year and month, so it would be September of 2017. Didn’t they discontinue in March of 2017. If so, do you have any info on that? Greatly appreciated. Just subbed.
Golden Guilder Both mine and yours are legit, the way I understand it is that even tho they were discontinued there were many parts still in circulation and in warehouses a long time after that date. It’s been more than a year since the 033 & 035 were cancelled and yet you can still buy these, some of which had build dates well after the discontinuation date.
Looks fake to me? The dial don't look right to me also the crown lines are straight where the real one is at a slight angle. Also your glass dome looks wrong , you have to be so careful when buying watches on ebay. The Chinese clones are so good right now. If you didn't by it from an authorized dealer and got it cheaper than what the watch is selling for then it's too good to be true.
If your getting the box, tags and instructions you best believe that it's genuine. The ones selling on ebay as new without box or papers are the one's that are counterfeit.
It's a nice looking diver's watch shown before the review (Glycine Combat). What model is it? How much was it? Would like to get one too. Good review. Thank you. :)
Federico Santiago It’s the GL0087 which I bought from Massdrop. There are 2 videos on this watch, one being a review and the other called ‘The Massdrop Experiment’ where I talk about its importation and costs.
It was designed by a famous cocktail barman in Japan. The strap is that way round so when you're holding a drink the strap looks nicer to the person you're talking too. The overhang is towards you not other ppl. I know that sounds mad, but it's true. It's the only watch where they have the strap that way round.
Funny, I’ve read this complaint that the strap is “backwards” or “upside down.” This may be a Japanese thing, Personally, I prefer and wear all my straps with the tongue facing towards me. I just feel it gives a better appearance. For what it’s worth, my SARB065 came with identical packaging.
I was wondering if those Irish watches you see on eBay were legit myself. In regards to the 4R versus the 6R movement there is nothing in it really despite what many channels are saying. Read the stats and make your own mind up.
dylan vasey They seem legit and yes you’re quite right very little between the movements. However for the same price which would you prefer, I guess it comes down to looks
Great video! Your watch looks legit. I own two of the Seiko Cocktail watches (One blue and one white dial) and they both came with the straps “backwards”. I believe that’s the way they come but so far I don’t understand why they come like that! Anyways, great video! Cheers!
Danilo Varela Many Thanks Danilo, as mentioned there’s an urban myth that the clasp was designed so that it’s readable to the wearer, if that’s true then why not inscribe the Seiko upside down and install the strap the normal way. The strap is universally disliked and I think the majority tend to swap it out at the first opportunity. The SRPB blue dial is very tempting
From what I read... Seiko inversed the strap so the less aesthetically pleasing excess strap would not be exposed to the person in front of you at the bar. The SARB065 is lovely, and I am tempted by the new Blue Starlight Cocktail although a 40mm dress watch wears too big on my 6" wrists...
Issac hunt Hi Issac, Seiko are quite secretive but the guesswork on the forums is that they probably have a stockpile of the parts when the make the announcement of discontinuation and they may carry on making them until they run out. Also they probably have a warehouse with x number of stock, you might also have certain retailers that bought in bulk, as I say it’s only guesswork. The benefit is that if the announce the mothball of say the ‘Alpinist’ then its a good bet they won’t disappear over night
Did you buy a fake seiko we don't know 18 minutes and you don't answer your own question what's the point you wasted my time your video is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long
Jimi X You’re right, the video is way longer than I expected, let’s put that down to the excitement of getting such a beautiful watch. It was an open question in the hope that someone more qualified could answer it. In any case I’ve since done a review that answers the question, you’re free to watch it if you wish, if not there’s plenty of cat videos you could catch up on
Last Watch I do like cat videos I do watch a lot of watch videos I don't normally watch videos longer than 10 minutes on reviews my criticism is meant to be constructive
Jimi X I really appreciate it to, and I’ll put my hand up to the fact that my last 2 videos have been much longer than I planned. I think the problem is not setting a brief when I film and just going with the flow. I will do my best in future to keep my videos between 10-15 minutes unless of course I get a real gem... should have said, thanks for sticking with it
Jimi X He’s on my list, as is TGV, Frederico, one more watch & Marc at Long Island, there just doesn’t seem to be anyone with a U.K. perspective. Hopefully my reviews will get better and when the numbers increase I might get some U.K. watch builders loaning to the channel, I can but dream
Tom Smyth The whole point of my channel is affordable watches, not sure what the definition of a Shitter is, I think that’s more about attitude than money and having more money to spend on a watch doesn’t mean you have more taste. I suppose I could argue that you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find your princess.

I got one for Christmas last year and it came in the same packaging. So either we both got fakes or we both got originals.
mattcolver1 if they can make a replica of the watch, I am pretty sure they could make a replica of the box.
It's a beautiful watch. I recently got an orient bambino. These dress watches are awesome!
Your watch was made in September 2017 and that movement is identical in appearance to the 4R movements found in the Presage range of Cocktail Time watches that replaced the SARB 065. It looks like it was at least 2 to 3 years old when you bought it.
