I'd love to see a reaction for JINJER - Pisces (the Live session from Napalm Records) For the best reaction, do not do any research into this band before hand.
This song is a fantastic journey . I’m Australian and never saw this coming from Kasey . She is an icon of Australian country music and I’m not really a country fan but this song is one of the greatest covers ever . You should react to the Paul Kelly song How To Make Gravy which is an Australian classic and kind of our Christmas song . I think you would love it .
And anger at the rock end....whereas in rap expletives sound like punctuation after a while, here the two allowed carried all the anger & angst in her soul. Fun fact, Kasey's 4 years younger than Eminem, both were struggling to break through roughly at the same time, Kasey's international breakthrough hit "Am I Not Pretty Enough" was recorded in 2001, "Lose Yourself" in 2002. Kasey's normally classified as (alt) country. I'm sure Kasey relates to the struggles of trying to keep a family fed as a musician, particularly from Australia & a bit of an outsider to the mainstream of her genre.
I was at this concert in Newcastle Australia. The atmosphere was insane . The civic theatre has the most incredible acoustics. Kasey is an amazing artist. 💪🏼💪🏼🇦🇺🇦🇺🤗🤗🎶🎶 TFS.
Aussies have a strong connection to Kasey and I think I know why. Can you think of a better image that is the embodiment of the Aussie spirit than someone who grew up living in the back of a truck in the outback living off the land and learning to play music sitting around a campfire. I miss those stories she told early on in her career.
Hey can I ask you why it seems the audience is so reserved? Is that a cultural thing? Or maybe just stunned silence? I’m here in NA where audiences are quite reactive, sometimes annoyingly so.
It makes me appreciate the lyrics Eminem wrote. When you can take the words and totally change the song it shows the creativeness of both her and Eminem. Awesome performance.
At last someone who has articulated the greatness of this cover. Not just the musicality of the arrangement, but the emotional focus of the song. She is a force of nature and leaves nothing behind in her performances. Check out her live version of 'Ain't No Little Girl' - just an exorcism of a performance.
BTW, this video only exists because someone said they should make it, so she collected all the audience footage she could, and they put this together. It wasn't intended as anything but a "one time concert tribute" for those who were there.
This one builds too. It highlights the sadness (and the underlying hope that allows one to get out of that sadness) and that journey to the attitude of the end, with her even spitting out the lyrics.
Love your reaction, you nailed it! As Kasey moves from almost acapella to country/folk/rock she moves through emotions pleading to anguish, to angst grit and anger. I think this is so powerful and brilliantly arranged. Go Kasey ❤
I used to buy fish and chips from Kasey's family shop as a young fella in Southend. She was about 10 years my junior and even then you could tell there was something special about her. The whole of South Eastern South Australia is immensely proud of Kasey and her amazing musical family. Probably my favourite song is Rattlin' Bones, with hubby Shane Nicholson.
I'm an Aussie and I saw this for the first time yesterday.....still totally blown away after about 8 viewings. Kasey, you were on fire! One shot.....nailed it.
It’s such a shame that quite a lot of the viewers don’t give the artist in this case Kasey Chambers the respect of reacting to her unique performance instead of wholly promoting the artist that they want to see next.
First off, thanks for reacting to this or I would have never known it existed 👀 Holy crap what an amazing thing she did with this song 😳 her vocal control 🤯👏👏👏👏
What an amazing piece of art. Kasey and the band have really gone next level in building the tension and drama, totally transforming the song. The Civic Theatre is a stunning old heritage listed building in Newcastle, 2 hours north of Sydney. The perfect setting for such a dramatic performance. I loved your reaction, and thank you for sharing around the world. G'day from Australia.
This shows what great lyrics and a great singer can do when they meet. Her anger and passion.. i cried the first time i saw this. Unapologetically cried.
Absolutely amazing cover from an Australian country music icon and demonstrates how much of a modern day poet Eminem truly is, the lyrics so effortlessly cross genres.
This performance has been described as a Rock-Ballad, mixing a blend of country, blues and rock in such an enlightening approach; this is exceptionally brilliant and mesmerising, showcasing Kasey's ability to draw raw emotion from an already great song.
Kasey Chambers is an Australian legend (youngest person to be entered into the Australian Music Hall of Fame) who has been beloved but ignored by radio and was shunned by Sony. She's been performing in her father's band since she was 12 years old (her brother is backing vocals and her dad is on the steel guitar on stage here). She had some pop hits in the 90s but her heart and soul is Country in her own style. She wanted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this song because she loves Eminem, and she had the time to rearrange and compose this masterpiece during lockdown. She is showing so much emotion because she has lived this to a degree as well. She is now 45 years old and a mother of three. This recording is the first time it was ever performed live and was done at the end of the concert. They thought it went well, so they used the recording from the sound desk and asked their fans who were in attendance to provide any footage they had to composite this one together. While there has been no public approval from Em, she has been allowed to put this song up on Spotify without challenge.
I need to see Em reacting to this before I die - to at least know that he saw it Also you’re always welcome in Australia - although I recommend avoiding February and March , it’s just too hot to really enjoy your time properly
I have watched sooo many reactions to Kasey singing this. The more I see and here this song. It just is on repeat on my brain. Big Kasey fan here. She dìd this song justice in true Kasey style.
Thoroughly enjoyed your comments and insights! Thank you for your awesome reaction! Kasey's musical artistry is phenomenal and what an amazing voice! I wish Eminem will share his reaction to this cover.
Great reaction, this bluegrass rock cover is hauntingly beautiful story telling, he's amazing and she also made this her own, she went off at the end!!!! Been obsessed watching everyone's reactions to this!!!!
Thanks for doing this one! This gives me chills every single time I hear it. Kasey is very under appreciated and needs to be recognised more on an international scale! Kasey is a master of storytelling, conveying lyrics and emotion! She is an icon in the Australian music industry, mostly for country and folk, but has her own style and is never afraid to delve into something outside the box. She is just getting better as she gets older. I really hope that Eminem has seen this and appreciates that his song and lyrics were re-imagined in such a spectacular way. I guess he has as he did give her permission to upload to Spotify etc. Would really like to hear what he thought about it though. Where else would you see banjo, pedal steel guitar and rock band together? Kasey started her solo commercial career around the same time as Eminem and she was a big fan of his music. Kasey spent lockdown playing around with some of her favourite songs and this version of Lose Yourself is the result. Brilliant! Kasey has spent her whole solo career bucking the constraints of the record companies and always gone her way. She made it to the top in Aussie music anyway with many awards, becoming the youngest ever ARIA Hall of Fame recipient. BTW….how was that for breath and vocal control? Not to mention the awesome arrangement. ❤ Also, that was Kasey’s Dad, Bill, on the steel guitar.
Oh and yeah, Em knows of this cover and has permitted her to release it on spotify and other services. Spotify won't allow you to release covers without the original artists approval
Thanks for a really intelligent and genuine reaction. All that anguish and tenderness and defiance is there in the original lyrics - she finds it, unpacks it and reveals it in an amazing performance. She loses herself in this. Really brave to try it - and she triumphs. Like it was the last damn soing she was ever gonna sing.
Haha yes!!!! 🙌🙌🙌 Been waiting on this one. First time I heard it I legit had the chills. Glad you enjoyed it, took me back to my first listen of it... Love it!
Her Dad is on slide guitar, harmonies by Brandon Dodd. I have no idea if Eminem knows, and he has probably heard a million different covers. Kasey Chambers is so down to earth and has a signature sound.❤️ Edit: Just went through your video list and didn't see LP Halo or LP Lost on you. She used to write music for big-name artists like Celine Dion and also has quite the signature. Australia has so many great voices. It's hard to choose one or even stick to 3🤔or 4...dang just too many. Short list for me is Karise Eden , Jimmy Barnes, and John Farnham. There are many others, but they won't get the watch numbers that the above two gentlemen will.
Her dad was on the slide for this song and not the harmonies. I think it was her brother Nash on the guitar the provided the harmonies for this performance. You can even see the guitarist sing in to the microphone in the video during the second verse.
@Devil's Advocate Yeah, I definitely skipped a few words between her Dad and harmonies. I was working at the time, and my brain was moving faster than my fingers. Did it with this post as well and had to fix it🤦♀️
Most people who react to this, don't really have much to say about the first few verses before it heats up. Loved all your in depth observations, you really got it. And made me appreciate it even more ❤
This from the girl who penned "Ain't I not pretty enough?" about her knock backs in trying to break into the Australian music industry as a soloist. Not surprising she has an affinity with these lyrics.
I really liked what you said about intention. To my ear, Eminem did this from a position of anger and frustration but Kasey seems to approach the song from a place of despair and almost palpable sadness that becomes a kind of triumph at the latter parts of the song. I genuinely think that this version is truly something special.
She does a Dolly Parton song that’s brilliant. Also my favorites are Barricades and Brickwalls and Runaway Train and Rattlin Bones. This track is new to me and I like it.
Love Kasey. Been following her career for more than 20 years and saw her live in Detroit once. Look for her live version of "Ain't No Little Girl" (probably an original but I'm not sure). I always kinda liked Barricades and Brick Walls too.
This version is opened up - so she can pack in all that emotion. I feel her pain so strongly- tragically beautiful. Thanks for giving this a broader audience. Great review. I get it- hallow but full- open but full… I can’t see the Holy Spirit but it’s in that song- chock full of it.
@@brittreactsgreat reaction, great insight into the choices she made to sing this song this way. P.S. you made need a different cover over your Microphone as I assume that is why there was so many clunks and pops when you spoke. Peace from Australia
