    I applaud the slower pace at the beginning of the video where you’re discussing the moment when you heard that your lives would dramatically change. Some people embrace change far better than others. No two people see the same obstacles before them. Every path for every person is unique in that way. When I saw the second plane hit the second tower on a small tv in Germany, and I heard the General announce, “Everyone back to your posts. We’re going to war.”, I knew I’d just experienced one of those moments. What would happen thereafter would change my life forever. Seeing the fall colors of your video, the subtle announcement Fall is there, while the clouds obscure portions of the mountains before you, really puts into perspective how that change came over so many people with the shut down of our world. The drone footage during the song certainly exemplifies the unknown laying before each and every one of us. For what lies in the shadows before us, is anyones guess. And yet, what did the drone do? It looked all around and resolutely moved toward that darkness undaunted. Those steps forward for each and every one of us are different. Some may be unable to take those steps forward without the helping hand of someone they trust, while others may march toward that darkness with reckless abandon. The blurry video when you put on your boots and open the door into the light is a perfect metaphor for what every person feels when we make it through that darkness and step out into the light. It’ll take time for our eyes to adjust. To take in just what lies before us in the light. And just what did you exclaim, “Look at how beautiful that is.” Would you have been able to make such a statement had you not just endured the unknowns of the darkness? I’d wager, no. And Ember playing in the water with her tail wagging a million miles an hour is just adorable. I loved the scene with you asking Jim, “Where are we headed?”, and Jim’s staring out the window for a moment going, “Ummmm. East Creek.”, like it was a bit of an unknown to him too. 😃. “As The Pond Churns” is absolutely awesome. When you write your first book, you’ll have to call it that. 😃. I’m confident that Mr. Beaver would approve. Your comment about the stereo system is an interesting one. Why is a vehicle that costs over $100k equipped with a stereo system less worthy than one that comes standard in a $24k car? Makes you wonder. Seeing Jim looking underneath the Revel made me wonder, did you bottom out on some of those craters you call potholes? Seeing Ember sitting in the passenger seat looking out the window was awesome. She’s like, “I don’t see any water here. Let’s get moving!”. Thank you for including a map of where you are! It’s so helpful to those of us always wondering where in Alaska you are. I pull up maps during your videos to try and visualize your location and what’s around you, and often times have difficulty finding the area you’re at. The map was an awesome inclusion! Seeing the truck/trailer combos along the side of the road makes me wonder why the Highway Dept. hasn’t put in a parking lot there to get them off the road? It’s not like there isn’t any space. The creek crossing went well. I love how clear that water was! I know you’ve been hesitant to push your Revel, but so far, it seems to have been a trooper! The underwater shot is the first I can recall that you’ve done in Alaska. I think you did one in Hawaii when you were there, but it was a fun perspective. I have to admit that I laughed when I saw Cynthia climbing the ladder with the camera in her hand! You know my motto, “Safety Third!” 😂. That campsite was spectacular, and Ember approved! The shot just afterward of Cynthia’s feet by the campfire with the setting sun is one you’ll have to remember when facing other obstacles that make you hesitant to push forward. It’s certainly worth it! And it must be noted that where you chose to park is at the confluence of swift and still waters. The reflection of your inner struggles to find balance between the known and unknown. The campfire being the light you’re putting before you to illuminate your path in life. Jim’s InstaPot creation looked amazing, as always! Thanks for making us all hungry!! 😂. As a closing note, Cynthia, your narration is perfect, and such a great addition to your videos! You’re doing a fantastic job you two!

      When I read this I smiled. Your perspective of change is spot on. Whether it's change in our personal lives, changes in our careers, relationships, we not only handle it differently but we handle it differently based on the situation. Are we already in warrior mode when this change hits us or are we peacefully sitting with our family in celebration? This had certainly been on of those things we've all been forced to face differently. Everything is a cycle, and a circle of balance. We keep pushing through even though I can't plan next week, month or year. We see our lives in one narrative as we're doing the "life" thing. And suddenly, it changes, and it's not a simple, quick change, it's a subtle, stab you in the back and turn you in circles until you're disoriented, type of change. It's the Oh My God, I've been blind all this time, type of change, because I finally slowed down. I love what you said about the blurry waking up metaphor because that's what this time period has been. I've learned more than I can publicly express about friendships, family and love. Oh. Funny thing about the Sprinter stereo. I think because they aren't really built to be passenger vans or luxury vehicles, they're built to work, the stereo is basic. The center speaker needs disabled and we love music on the road so much1. It's one of those things that isn't that great but it's understandable as to why Thank you for all of your wonderful insight Brian. You see what others see but can't verbalize, or see and don't realize they see, and "hearing" you tell us what you seeing is heart warming. ❤️.

    Just wanted to drop a note to let you guys know this has absolutely become my favorite channel. Those of us still working the 9-5 are inspired by your journey. The simplicity projected in your videos is wildly inspiring. Given the option of grinding day in and day out.. Or the simplicity of the mountains, a dog, and a campfire? I'd pick the latter. Every time.

    Really nice video! We drove the Denali Hwy for a week in mid-September 2016. The fall colors of Alaska are SO beautiful! Like seeing Jim’s recipes in the InstaPot-we’ve never had jambalaya, but reindeer sausage with shrimp just seems wrong! However...have to admit that it did look tasty! As fellow Revelers, we’re always wondering how much power it’s taking to cook in the InstaPot. We’ve added an extra solar panel, but we always have an eye on the Zamp Controller when using the induction stovetop.

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, it's a crazy good combination of seasoning and meat and because the shrimp is frozen it seems to not be very "shrimpy". However, I think Jim should have added this. Be careful carrying any frozen fish in any RV. We learned that the hard way! (I had to take out the carpet I put down last fall. 😂). Ok, so I'm sure you've heard the trick of starting the intantpot and putting it in your sink wrapped in a towel and cooking as you drive? I've done that when we hit construction and knew we'd be pulling into our spot late. I wish we knew how to test the instant pot and it's draw like all those smart folks in our group can. It doesn't seem to draw much power at all. The trick is finding the shorter recipes. If it says to "cook for 10 minutes" that means it takes about 10 minutes to get up to pressure and another 10 to release. I can't recall a time it's drawn too much but we also plan it out to try and do it after we've been driving or the sun is up. I think it's a great little addition but we certainly don't use it all the time, and I'm not sure we will be able to use it in the winter. We'll have to test it out. Thanks for watching!1

      Haha, yeah these cooking videos on early Sunday mornings must be torture. This one was soooo good and I think he really wanted to be sitting by the river and not cooking. 😂. These roads have turned into more a feeling of "eh, what could go wrong". I'll be honest, there's times, that night especially where the remoteness does sink in. It's this weird feeling. Here, it hit me during the night. How far I'd have to walk out for service if anything happened etc. It can be an almost suffocating feeling that's hard to put into words. Great video is always . Really pretty scenery. I thought Ember can always entertain herself when I was water around to Splash in. Something I thought of as y’all were crossing the water, which was fairly deep. Your rear ends/axles, and transfer case and probably the transmission also, have vents to relieve pressure as they heat up and allow air to move back in as they cool down. They are warm and you drive into the cold weather and a cool off quickly and draw air in to them.You need to check and see if they have, or install tubes to the vent they go up high above any water level that you plan on crossing, so that water is not drawn into them.

Beautiful either way we just wanted to try this trail that we had never been on before. So many places to camp along the way we do not recommend staying at the "campgrounds" since you get the same services that you have to pay for as you get with more space and beauty that are absolutely free. Hi Sassy. I've been thinking of you and your visit up here. You must be so excited! We did have a chuck it!!! Ember lost that ball on the Dalton Highway and it was the best ball ever because she couldn't chew it up. Jim really Tries to make her retrieving just her duck but I've ruined her with sticks and the ball. OMG it makes her insane. I was a little happy when it disappeared. 😂😂😂. As you know she is totally obsessive! It's funny you mentioned that because as you can see we don't plan this out. I bet you can ever hear us behind the scenes. Like "wait, how did the peppers get in there?" I mean, Jim is impossible to film and I mean that in the best way possible. He just starts talking and throwing stuff in and kinda sorta looks at a recipe. So anyway, afterwords I have to go back and figure out what he did and put it into writing and I forgot to take a picture of it! We will get this worked out but the things he decides to throw in there are pretty darn amazing. Also, working with what we already have... Have a great flight up here, maybe we can meet up? Keep in touch okay? ❤️

I know retrievers can be OCD! Even my little Cavalier is a she is a distant relative. You are living the perfect life for Miss Ember! She has so many great places to swim! What I want to know is how you keep your camper clean!!! She is always in the sand and mud!
      I would love to get together! My son has 11 acres, plenty of room for you to park and camp! I don’t know what he has planned yet or if the state will make me get a second COVID test and wait for results, I should know on Thursday. I leave Friday. I will be there a week. I will send you my phone # on FB messenger.

    Beautiful...the water was like glass and you guys going outback even further was really nice...I can imagine how peaceful it was sitting there by the stream with the fire going.
    Ember was having a good time as usual...At one point you were quite far from the Van did you have your bear spray or a weapon with you?
    Tell Jim to entertain Ember so you can check the stream for 'GOLD" :) Wow that's a lot of food for just 2 people...looked really nice...
    Thank you both for sharing...

      Hi James.Yes that was a ton of food right? We went back for seconds and I think Jim snuck in the left overs to Ember. In a spot like that with shrimp and sausage we had to make sure it was cleaned up really well so it went in our bellies. Yes, I had protection on me. Generally about 90% of the time. Were I have it is completely comfortable to me and having been taught well to never show it is ingrained in me deep. So yes, had it on me while filming this time because he said "off road and river crossing" I hear "Oh, okay, I'll be walking and filming". 😂. Thanks for being here for us and with us James. Hope all is well in your part of the world. (I tortured myself researching Iceland last night, this is the longest I've had my feet on the ground in.......wow, I can't really remember). This loop we're doing is really helping ease that part of me that's very much like Ember to water.
      have a beautiful week. xoxo

    How do you wash your cooking stuff? I expect you don't want to use too much on-board water, yet don't want to risk stream water either.

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We do a combination of both. We will use stream water lake water etc to get the big stuff off then use our sink to soap clean everything. We also use purified water from rivers and streams through our life straw system.

    As she was driving out of the fuel station, I was wondering do you carry extra fuel with you?

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Miles, We don't currently carry extra fuel and have never had an issue with running low on fuel. When we start taking our adventures out of country we will carry a couple rotopax just in case. Stay safe!

    Found your channel a couple of weeks ago and love seeing your travels! A couple of questions, first how tall is Jim? I'm 6'3" and don't know if my wife and I would fit in that bed. Second does Ember know not to jump in the river when it's moving really fast? I can see how much Ember loves the water and that makes me a little nervous. Any way keep up the great channel and stay safe.

    • @WingsandWheelsAlaska
      @WingsandWheelsAlaska  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Patrick, Jim is 6'2" and we are totally comfortable in the bed but we would totally recommend trying it before you make the purchase. Wether it is seeing one on the show room floor or renting one always try before you buy. Ember has learned fast water and what she can and can't swim in which is nice. She completely avoids the fast water and we are still paranoid and holler at her to come pretty often even though we really probably don't need to but we never want to take a risk. Great questions and we hope to see you on the road some day!
