Carla Azar’s a great and dear friend of mine, and my first drum instructor. Superb drummer, songwriter, singer, and human being. You picked a soulful drummer to learn from.
Thanks for the tutorial! From the time I heard Turnstile Blues in 2004 I always wanted to learn how to play that drum part. It's tricky but ya make it look easy!
Honestly this is an amazing instructional video. I like the way you deliver each groove and build on each run. You don't linger anymore than it takes to learn the beat. Great job keep it up.
I cannot show enough appreciation for this vid, I don't even play drums. I can now clearly make out each hit and I'm sure you've helped a whole bunch of people learn some of these very underappreciated songs, thank you man
Autolux has been a spectacular vehicle for Carla, but I still have a deep soft spot for her tenure in Wendy & Lisa (of Prince fame) as their groove mechanic. Tunes like Honeymoon Express and Skeleton Key were approachable but had a distinct weirdness about them that made them way more interesting.

Holy shit. That rules. Can’t imagine her as an instructor. You are very fortunate
She’s a sweet gal. And she is HELL on those drums. Great singer, too. It’s been nice being her friend. I still learn a lot from her.
Can you tell her she's fucking awesome please? Sincerely, every TH-cam comment on every autolux vid
Happy to!
That's super cool, tell her she's been a big influence on my drumming. =)
I admire Carla's drumming. It's so unique, I'm trying to learn her feel of groove for almost a year I think.
Great feel.

Anyone know if Carla has published loops anywhere. Would be happy to send her some compensation for inspiration on some guitary improvisation.
Thanks for this! I play guitar, bass and piano, wanted some grooves to play for original recordings. Your approach is 👍
Thank you!
Great
