  • While in Detroit for the Woodward Dream Cruise, Fletch spotted one of his all-time favourite cars, a 1974 Replica Dodge Monaco Patrol Car and started up a conversation with the owner, former Deputy Sheriff Stacy of Lapeer County Police department for 40 years.
Stacy with his son Brandon, also a Deputy Sheriff caught up with Fletch to tell the story of Sheriff Stacy and the 1974 Replica Dodge Monaco 440 V8 Patrol Car and the replica rebuild. Stacy claims these cars were as tough as they get, capable of 140mph, fast and reliable, but heavy and not known for their suspension and braking.
Fletch a confessed Blues Brother's tragic, has his very own 1974 Dodge Monaco 360 V8, not a Patrol Car but the more up-spec Custom model.
He tells the story of trying to buy the vehicle from his friend Murray Park, a well-known Mopar collector for many years. Murray finally relented, and Fletch got his dream car and brought it back home to Australia.

Just FYI for the Aussies, the drilled hubcaps didn't come along until the mid- to later 1970's. The correct hubcaps for that car were non-drilled and had the Dodge insignia in the middle, with a red band around it. I can send you a picture of my brother's police car from back in the day, if you'd like. The police models had a steering wheel with a steel horn ring and a 140 mph "certified" speedometer, versus the 120 mph gauge on the civilian car. By the way, I LOVE that you Aussies are into Mopars. I hope to someday tour your country by motorcycle. God bless you!

Dahgum, I thought this was a recent episode, but it’s a year old. I still drive a 2008 Ford Crown Vic Police Interceptor for the police agency I work for and I’m doing all I can to hang onto it as long as possible. Way back in the mid-80s, almost 40 years ago, I worked at an auto parts store in Hollywood, Florida. Well, a local mechanic named Sal would frequent our store for his repair jobs and periodically he would buy and/or order the Edelbrock dual-plane intake manifold, the matching cam and lifter kit, a Holley 650 cfm carburetor, and a set of headers all for the small-block Chrysler 318 and 360 V8s. One day I asked Sal what he was doing with all those performance parts. He told me he was installing them on the Seminole Indian Tribal Police cars; back then the Tribal Police drove the 80s Plymouth Fury police cars. I doubt none of the local Police and Sheriff’s Office Agencies would be able to get away with that.

Another most informative show from Fletch, I was actually with Fletch and twelve other friendly Ozies on this Fletch Detroit tour. If you get a chance to do this next year, go for it. You will get to attend and be part of the Woodward Dream Cruise, a spectacle in itself. In addition you will get to see another 1,000 or so cars at various locations from the -20's through to today. If you enjoy good old American Cars and see Detroit for yourself and visit the original FORD Factory and other FORD sites, and much more, then I say do it. Thanks for the journey Fletch. Kind Regards Graham.

Wow wow I had one of these cars and LOVED my Dodge Monaco. I was also shocked at the commercial that showed the classic Charger! Completely different from an American Charger but still so coool. I thank you for this video sir!

The Charger in Australia and Brazil was based on the A body. In Australia it was made from the Valiant. In Brazil it was from the Dart.

The Monaco was not designed to replace the Polara. It was offered as a premium trim level of Polara(since they were actually the same car from 1965-1968. I. 1969+ they were still the same car but with a unique cost effective fascia and tailpanel for fleet sales or bargain models and a more extravagant fascia for higher trim models). In 65 the Chevrolet Impala has a premium trim model Caprice and the Ford Galaxie could be loaded up with trim to the Galaxie Limited(LTD) so this gave Dodge Division a way to bring in the value buyer who wanted premium features on his fullsize family car. Plymouth did it as well segmenting the Fury into 3 specific trim lines and adding onto that ad hoc, with VIP, Sport Fury and Fury GT to compete with the many offerings from GM like the Grand Prix and Wildcat.

I'm guessing this was an A38 package, going by the white interior. That dual snorkle air cleaner is from a ca 1985-89 Dodge B series van with the 360-4V motor

That blue Monaco rides better than a 72 Cadillac because of thr unibody construction and Torsion bar front suspension and leaf spring rear suspension.
Go around a corner at 25mph and you will see the difference. All that Cadillac body roll and tire squeal

    A. The cars had been unibody construction since 1957 so 1974 was nothing new.
    B. The 1974 models rolled out in August 1973. The fuel crisis happened from October to December 1973.
    C. All the manufacturers made cars the same size during this time so Chrysler wasnt singled out for anything
    D. Chryslers sales problem was because they had no models below the A body compact class to bring people at the same time. GM has the Vega as a subcompact and Nova as compact. Ford had the Pinto as the subcompact and Maverick as the compact. Chrysler only had the Dart intially then imported the Mitsubishi Colt while Plymouth imported the Hillman Cricket. But these cars should have been here 3yrs before.
