It's not about being realistic, it's about creating a fantasy world, and I love it. The glass-like sets of this production are gorgeous and really convey the transitions from sea to land to sea and so on.
I absolutely love the way the audience responds when they hear the melody to Under the Sea. I was just in a production of this, and that is when everyone goes NUTS in the crowd. We were literally on stage for three minutes while the crowd cheeres after that song!
I really wish that this longer version of this song about Fathoms Below had been on the soundtrack with Sean Palmer's part when he sing "This Is Where I Belong".
She used to ice skate when she was a teenager, and supposedly she had a great future ahead as an olympic skater, but her family couldn't afford her training, so she stopped skating and started singing
this show just warms my heart. it was the first movie i ever saw and the first musical i ever saw/performed. It will always have a special place in my life
I get to play Arista in this and my best friend is playing Ariel! So much fun! The character is completely opposite of me in real life, so it'll be... interesting. :P
thank you soooo much for uploading this it really helped me with a production of this that i was in over the summer i kept trying to find it!! it was one of my favorite preformances that i have been in i was ariel and my cast was amazing!!! love you all
Some Broadway musicals have a "test-run" of sorts before they actually appear on a Broadway stage just to see how audiences will respond to it. This is probably one of the performances of The Little Mermaid before it's Broadway debut, just like how Disney's Aladdin will show in Toronto before it's on Broadway sometime next year.
Thanks SO much for uploading these! Even if I did have a chance to see this (unlikely; I'm in Texas), I'm visually impaired, so when I see a play, everyone looks like tiny blank-faced dolls unless I use binoculars, and sometimes even then! Now I can see everything clearly from the comfort of my computer!
My all-time favorite musical! Used this recording for research before auditioning for ursula at George Mason University. Got the part, thank you Sherie Rene Scott! you're one of my idols
I think this is the day I went and saw it too. :) I thought people weren't allow to record it at the theatre, I've been to that theatre a lot, and I remember seeing don't record the show on signs.
THis reminds me when i was in the school play The wizard of Oz! Next year or the next time we are doing a play we are doing the Little Mermaid!! So excited!!
We're doing the Jr. version of this for my school's musical this year! So far we've been working very hard (even though the shows aren't until April)... its coming along very well
Also, they had budget cuts for the Disney movie, so some of the animation had to go, which meant cutting Eric's hair. As much as some people don't understand, the more animation there is in a movie, the more money it costs to produce it. So, if Eric has less hair, there's less animations, therefore they could make the budget they were given.
The Phantom (Erik) uses the guise of the Angel when he appears to Christine where as most others he is the Phantom or the Opera Ghost (and Red Death at the masquerade). Ignore the lyrics to the musical and read the actual book. Its a good read and you will notice the differences between the book and the musical.
Me too. I just finished my community theater's run of Little Mermaid Jr. and they left out so many beautiful songs. I was Scuttle by the way, so I lost one of my solos :(
Thank you so much for uploading the show! I hope it doesn't get removed though! :( I saw the show in March , and it was so amazing! I can't believe such a great show is now closed!
The Broadway production of The Little Mermaid was designed and directed by Disney. The only reason why Eric has long hair is because they wanted to do it that way. The original Eric that they were going to animate for the movie was going to have long hair, but they decided to go with the shorter haired Eric. They changed a few details just like they added more songs. They didn't want to copy the movie to the T or no one would like it as much. (I'm a theatre major, sorry. lol)
I saw this show and LOVED it! I hope it manages to find its way over to London! Doubt it ever will though - it didn't do great on Broadway unfortunately... It's a real shame that stuff like this doesn't get the credit it deserves
My school is doing the junior play and everyone is telling me I'm going to get the part for Ariel because I can sing but one of my friends wants to be Ariel too and she's now she's mad at me. I do really wanna be Ariel but I don't like how she's mad at me over a play😩
The little mermaid is one of my all time favorite Disney movies, if not my favorite. Prince Eric was always my favorite Disney prince and character. I like the guy who plays. Sure he may be in thirties and Eric was 18 when he married Ariel and he’s twenty-one in this musical but he still play him very well, has a wonderful voice, and he actually looks like could pass as I guy still in his early twenties.
i just want to see this so so badly.. its on the top of my list of shows to see. its one of my favorite disney movies and as soon as i heard it was gonna be on broadway i begged my parents to take me but sadly they said no.. so hopefully they do a national tour soon...
@TheGreenified O.O Sierra is my name, too. lol And The Little Mermaid was my first ever favorite Disney movie when I was only 2 years old. xD I've never checked out The Little Mermaid on Broadway all that much before, so I'm looking at it, now. xD Kinda wishing I could see it in person when I go this year, but I know its not playing. :
@bastiantotalhappy they didn't cut it it changed for the broadwayshow this was only a try-out. But i do think people don't get al the jokes like : He's such a crab. BTW i did not ever see the show but i thought youmend it was the part of the If Only reprise you mean

The overture is absolutely beautiful, gives me chills every time❤
Sierra Boggess is the most talented woman ever! She can sing, dance and even ice skate!!! She's also soooooo pretty!!!! :)))
Angelina Lim Where does she ice skate? I want to see!
She used to ice skate when she was a teenager, and supposedly she had a great future ahead as an olympic skater, but her family couldn't afford her training, so she stopped skating and started singing
Grimsby in this is played by Johnathan Freeman, AKA: The voice actor of Jafar... that amuses me lol.
I know!!! How crazy is that???!!!!
this show just warms my heart. it was the first movie i ever saw and the first musical i ever saw/performed. It will always have a special place in my life
We're doing this for our spring show next year and I'm stage managing! I'm so pumped.
I wish I have this Broadway show on DVD along with the other Disney Broadways.
I love how The World Above's tune is used for how much he loves the sea... perfect touch!
I get to play Arista in this and my best friend is playing Ariel! So much fun! The character is completely opposite of me in real life, so it'll be... interesting. :P
thank you soooo much for uploading this it really helped me with a production of this that i was in over the summer i kept trying to find it!! it was one of my favorite preformances that i have been in i was ariel and my cast was amazing!!! love you all
Sierra Boggess should have played Ariel in the live action Little Mermaid! That would have been good
6:47 HE HEARS CHRISTINE DAAE!
I miss doing this show so much!!!!! I was Ariel in TLM Jr. It was one of my favorite shows!!!

Broadway_For_Good nice! My best friend wants to be Ariel!
My school just got the rights to do this show, not the junior version, for the spring musical. I'm incredibly excited!
I'm about to be a seagull, an instrumental fish, a maid, and a princess. I've never been more excited for a show before!

Thanks SO much for uploading these! it is called an overture when the orchestra plays before the stage stuff starts.
it's lie a musical introduction to the play
We're doing the Jr. version of this for my school's musical this year! So far we've been working very hard (even though the shows aren't until April)... its coming along very well
I just got cast as Ariel!!!! Hoping to do sierra justice

Sierra Boggess is to play Christine in Andrew Llyod Webbers Sequel to the Phantom of the Opera- Love Never Dies.
If I'm not mistaken that is the Angel of Music herself, Sierra Boggess.

@TheDJDanceParty your so lucky you got to see it live i really wanted to see it but sadly it no longer plays :(
Prince Eric reminds me a little of Gaston.

My school is doing the junior version and I can defiantly see differences between the broadway and junior versions.
I really wish that this had been the remake movie of the Disney animated movie's The Little Mermaid.
Sorry to hear that, dude. I give you my dearest sympathy.
i just want to see this so so badly.. its on the top of my list of shows to see.
its one of my favorite disney movies and as soon as i heard it was gonna be on broadway i begged my parents to take me but sadly they said no..

pit orchestra violinist in this. such an amazing score.

Sierra Boggess is an angel. No wonder she played Christine prior to this show :)
Ooooh! Yay! I've been wanting to see this so bad!
I live how theres a twist.
i think this show is a lot better then what people give it credit!
Eric sounds like the traveling Broadway's Marius from Les Miserables.... I think he somewhat looks like him too. I wonder if it is him.
This musical is comming to holland and i gonna to see this.... Can't wait!!!
@livelongnprosper92 Norm Lewis for the win! I was thrilled when I realized. It's so cool how he's able to portray such different characters.
@TheGreenified
O.O Sierra is my name, too. lol And The Little Mermaid was my first ever favorite Disney movie when I was only 2 years old. xD I've never checked out The Little Mermaid on Broadway all that much before, so I'm looking at it, now. xD Kinda wishing I could see it in person when I go this year, but I know its not playing. :

I love Sierra Boggess, who play Ariel and Sean Palmer, who play Eric.
The costumes are amazing
Too bad they didn't keep the If Only instrumental in the overture for the Broadway production. It sounded beautiful.
Actually the Angel of Music is the Phantom not Christine. But yes its Sierra Boggess
