I love how at 2:31 they edited in Dan saying "Particularly Good One" over his initial comment, with a sharp cut to Larry to avoid his mouth. His initial comment probably wasn't convincing enough for NBC. Not that seems to have been negative comment to begin with, it was probably neutral positive, so they beefed it up to sound more marketable. You'd think it would've been a better editing job as well... My evidence is the volume spike of the clip, the speed of the clip to fit the frame of his hidden words, and the beginning of the audio clip starting while Dan had not released the breath for his "Uhh" that he's resting on.
Yeah this was just, if he ever cared he doesn't care anymore. Dan Harmon has never really shown himself to be much for a back and forth conversation but all this interview has to it is a man reading off a list of questions to rainbow lightbulb.
that's always been larry kings charm, he is there to listen not to ask. that is why he is been doin it for 60 years. check norm macdonald podcast with him
The idea of a slightly senile out-of-touch old man as an interviewer is actually a pretty great idea. Though it's inadvertent here.. I'd like to see it pushed further. Case in point is Larry's "I was in three Shreks" line. That was funny.
Can't believe he mentioned Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. One of my favourite Comedies. Maybe people in the US don't really know about it. People NEED to see it. Such an amazingly weird meta comedy.
At 26:12 - larry smiles nicley and says "pleasure meeting you man" and seems to really genuinely enjoy meeting Dan. He offers Dan a handshake and as they come together all dan can muster to say is "all Right". Lol
Any writers notice Dan refers to a deadline as a "luxury"? I've never thought of it that way, I think he was trying to tell us(prospective writers) something...
Idea for a Community movie: Bring back Abed's girlfriend, Rachel, played by Brie Larson. She's a legit movie star now, as are many cast members, and could add some box office draw to the project. I think all fans liked the Abed and Rachel story line. Abed is a (the?) central character in the show, and maybe something could happen to him -- like he disappears, and the gang must get together again to find him; or maybe something less dramatic than that -- and this trouble with Abed could become the impetus for re-introducing Rachel. The basic problem a Community movie would have, of course, is that they are all too old to be in school anymore, and so how do you reassemble the ensemble without the classic setting of the show? I think Rachel is the key to this dilemma, however she is re-introduced.
I think since abed is kind of a reflection of Dan and he went off to Hollywood he could follow in Dan footsteps and we could watch him try to take some space in this overproduced reality while trying to keep in touch with his past, his friends from the community college
I read a really good fan script that had the cast coming back for Chang's gay wedding set in 2021 pandemic referenced. Jeff and Annie are platonic-co-parents of a one year old, Abed has a TV show based off of their lives called "The Study Group", Troy is worth millions, Britta owns a bar, and Shirley's business is on thin ice due to the pandemic and Andre is dead cause of it. It was really well written and captured the characters very well and carried their arcs through. I highly recommend reading it cause its probably the closest thing to a Dan Harmon written movie until the movie comes out.
It's refreshing to see a serious guy like Larry King be funny by actually attempting to be funny instead of unintentionally being funny like he and others have done in the past.
Seems like wether or not the movie will happen completely depends on Donald Glover .....aaand Glover doesn't seem that interested in making one soooo ...💔
Paradoxically, I think the two elements of DH's responses that really expose the animus of his self-perception are: 1) when he talks about the centrality of sincerity to his craft (i.e. when he talks about sincerity in comedy, struggling to learn how to stop living life transparently/out in the open, getting in trouble for being outspoken, etc.), and 2) _caring_ so much what people think of him that he is emotionally unable to separate self-perception from what other people think of him. At the intersection of those two notions is a zone of _extreme_ vulnerability that, in these times, many people choose to avoid by abrogating either the one tendency or the other. Instead, DH has (in the past, at least) thrust himself into the heart of that psychic maelstrom. It's what makes his work so singular and entrancing - in a sense, the dark secret to which he owes his success - but it's also what causes him so much grief in the public sphere.
Love Dan! Great interview! Although 4 years later, PC culture is ruining comedy. Being funny no longer makes you immune like Dan says. Dave Chapelle being a perfect example 😔
larry king some how takes pride in not researching his guests... why? I don't know. It's embarrassing and doesn't add any incite in to the person or their work. It's like a young person trying to explain the internet to their grandma, their frame of reference is so narrow and out of touch it's a pointless waste of time.
@@vimgeer That's not the reason. He comes to the interview from his own life and his own perspective, expecting to learn about his guest's life and perspective. Why research? I get that if you're interviewing a politician or something... This is more personal. That's why they're captured in a warm environment around a table. They know a bit, but not a ton and they ask some good questions while giving breathing room for a humble talk between two folks. Anything wrong with that?
pierce died in the show so i doubt he'll show up in a flash back. (a prequel for a movie would be very unlikely.) the movie could be about troy returning from his world roaming trip though.
Tbh, Pierce is the only one that might not return in the movie. He hated working on it so much, and feuded with Dan to the point where Dan got fired (obviously that wasn't the only reason, though) but Chevy stayed on, and then Dan came back and Chevy left. But meh, I don't need him. Troy and Shirley returning would be amazing though
Man, that sucks. I understand why he wouldn't want to return, but when he left there was a huge dynamic change. I didn't even realize it until he was gone and I rewatched the whole series, but Pierce held the group together.
