It does my heart good to see young people playing challenging music at such a high level. Congratulations to Yu Tamaki and all the band members.
And of course, praise also to Ian Bousfield.
Ricardo Mollá - your music inspires around the world.

Oh this is where that fantasia concertante melody came from! ❤

Actually it is the contrary! Fantasia Concertante was my first piece and the I adapted a few melodies for my Concerto for two trombones 😊

Man... I like everything about this video. The multi-cam production & direction; the sound quality; the conductor; the youth of the well rehearsed ensemble; obviously the soloists - the virtuosity required to go phrase for phrase with possibly the greatest player on his instrument in the world. The solo parts are written to showcase everything that can be done on a trombone, trading intricate licks with woodwinds, the rest of the brass section, and the percussion. If there were anything I would wish for it might have been for a more climactic development of the ending of the production - I think that it's in the writing - but for me the size of the piece and the development should have left me gasping for air, and it didn't. I don't know if the recording levels didn't allow for the dynamic development into the final phrase - maybe in live performance it came through, but I didn't hear it from the audience either - they sound appreciative rather than thunder-struck. It's possible I've spent too much time around the DCI world, where 70 brass and 40 percussion hammer the climax home, but I have to assume with the best soloists in the world, a more than capable ensemble, terrific conductor, and beautifully written development, the video might have captured more explosiveness at the very end - it's there in the score as I hear it. Oh well... I'm 69 and my ears were brought up in a different world. I want to feel like I've been slapped in the face, blown away. This was only great at the end, and my inner ear wanted magnificent.

¿What model of trombone is using Tamaki?¿ Is it a Bach model La Rosa?
