Im diagnosed with PCOD & I haven’t got my period since July 2019. That’s 9 months down. Watching this video made me tear up as I’m caught up with this idea of wanting to look a certain way and exercising 5-6 days a week.. I don’t exactly count calories or restrict foods.. I eat a balanced diet but I’m always scared I’m eating too much. But my body clearly needs more fuel. This mental struggle with the fear of putting on a few pounds is horrible
Ikr. I can't really stop exercising and eating more calories(even though i don't restrict foods) in fear of gaining weight i lost. But not getting period is always very scary. Don't know what to do
Also did you get your periods back? Please share because right now I'm scared of not getting period and also gaining weight if i stop exercising and start to eat more
I didn't know losing weight like this was gonna make me lose my period. I actually really really miss it. And I pray that I get it back! PLEASEEEE (NEVER THOUGHT I'D SAY THIS) why wasn't we taught this in school

@@shristiiikarki hi, yes, I got it back!! for me, I did have to gain some weight - I had to return to the weight I was before I lost weight. it was terrifying at first, but as I returned to my "restored weight" point, I realized it was what I needed to do. I am SO much happier now. I strongly recommend watching "Kate noel" on youtube, she helped me more than anything!
I lost my period from being overweight. I’ve lost 60lbs and gotten it back on a plant based diet but it’s come with severe pms (PMDD) it’s been really difficult as I feel like an entirely different person 2 weeks of every month. With the help of my doctor and continued weight loss I’m managing but I feel like more light needs to be brought to PMDD. Many people don’t know they have it. Pms should not be severe. Thank you for making this video Amanda, it’s really important.
Oh my god, I was so scared when I lost my period for months, I couldn't tell my parents, I lost over 20kgs, would do vigorous exercise and have no more than 800 calories a day. So I lost my period. The other day i watched this video, and I was like okayy... and now I have my period back after 6 months, after eating a lot more and exercising
@KATELYN NYAMANDE I have irregular period too, sometimes it just skipped for a month. I used to experience the same thing when I'm 12, my period come for an entire month, it was very light but it just won't go away. Your period can be very irregular when you're young. Just try not to stress and you should consult a doctor if you're worried about it 💚
I am 16 and I havent had my period for 3 months now, I am really scared. Thanks for the video! I am preety sure its because I have been loosing a lot of weight and excersicing a lot, I will definitely decrease my activity level and eat some mlre
I have lost my period a few times in my life. It is so hard each time. I lost it for about a year and a half before, and another time just for one cycle. It is triggered by restricting my food intake. I used to be a highly competitive figure roller skater. I have had a problem with overeating on healthy food since I was 12, and when I hit 15 I tried cutting calories to stay competitive or feel loved by men/ attractive. Now I make sure to eat enough. I have injuries from skating so I still skate but I skate for fun, and skate lightly, not too intensely. Anything involving what I eat affects my period. For instance, I eat vegan so I tried supplementing with a little bit of iodine, and it ended up really suppressing my appetite. It was so scary, because it messed up my cycle. I stopped the iodine. So far so good, because I eat enough. Also, hope everything works out for you
I have never commented but thank you for posting this! I used to have my period in highschool but after going through a pretty bad ED for the past two years, over exercising, and being on the pill for 3 years I have also lost my period. I am now 20 and at a much better place but I think I still need to get more comfortable with eating more and doing lighter workouts to get it back. Thank you for posting again!
I am in a very similar place minus being on the pill. I feel so lucky to have Amanda’s videos during this time. We’ll get through this as long as we put the work in! I wish you the best of luck. :)
I've lost my period for about close to 3 years now, solely relying on medication for the 3 years in order to keep my ovary active. Prior to losing my period, it came every 3 months and gradually became every 6 months and then didn't come at all. I didn't thought of it as a serious problem because everyone around me was saying that it was normal since I was somewhat only just beginning my cycle. I started my cycle when I was 12 and lost it when I was 15, so I didn't think it was 'just beginning'. Nevertheless, I didn't thought much about it because I have other more important things to do as I was nearing my exams. I was stressed, ate less, exercised more and was in a netball club. Then it hit me one day when all my friends was complaining about their periods and I have nothing. I realise that I needed to do something and so I went to multiple doctors but all they gave me was medication to induce my period and I didn't really trust them because my period was not coming naturally. Now I am currently trying to gain some weight and get my health back, my BMI was 17, now it's probably 18 or 19. I am trying to cut down on my exercise but I find it difficult to do it as I enjoy running and weight training. I'm trying my best to get my period back ❤️
I relate to this so much! I've been a distance runner (cross country and track) since seventh grade. I got my first period the summer between seventh and eighth grade, but it was never consistent. I would skip months, and it it was always very light and short. I asked my doctor about it, and she said it was normal to have an irregular cycle in the beginning. I started to notice the pattern that whenever I was on season and running a lot, I wouldn't get my period, but it always came back off season. Then between sophomore and junior year, I started to lose weight. It didn't feel very quick or drastic, but maybe it was. I did it on purpose because I felt physically uncomfortable in my body. I had pain when I ran, and it went away after I lost weight. The thing is, I'm at the end of my senior year, and I haven't had my period since the winter/spring of my sophomore year... I get so sad and heartbroken about it because I feel like I'm not a whole woman. I have some doctor's visits lined up, but I'm afraid they'll just want to put me on medication/birth control to induce it. Since quarantine, I've stopped running and am trying to get my period back naturally. We're all in this together. Sending love to all my ladies out there ❤️
@@apapercrane Yes, we're all in this together ❤️ however the only problem is that I'm kind of afraid of gaining weight. I'm still trying to make myself think that gaining weight is nothing to worry about

Hello ! Thank you for this video. I'm a teenager and I got my first periods about 2 years ago. At first they were coming every month but they got irregular first when I fasted (for religious reasons). They started coming every 2 ou 3 months . Meanwhile I started eating heathlier but nothing crazy. About a year ago, I had an ED and I wasn't eating enough ( ~ 1200 calories) and they were still irregulars. Now I'm still recovering (I'm addicted to calories counting), I exercice pretty intensly and I'm eating about 1700 calories. I haven't had my period since november and im starting to freak out. Adults around me keep saying that it's normal because I'm a teenager but I don't know what to do. I still have a pretty unhealthy relationship with food I'm scared of food and gaining weight.
Hi i have a very similar experience, actually. I know it seems difficult but slowly adding in foods you were restricting should help. You're still young and restricting calories isnt the magical solution to your problems, and can affect a lot as you get older. I had to deal with gastroparesis and a ton of digestive, hormonal, and bone problems because of disordered eating, and I was still eating around 2000 calories a day, but purging it through exercise. If you cannot reach out to your parents for help, I couldn't either, there are a lot of people online including councilors who are willing to talk it out with you. You still have a whole life ahead of you to focus on body aesthetics, so keep in mind that for now you should focus on your health. Exercising is definitely healthy, but make sure that you're not overdoing it, as that will also hault getting your health back on track. Im a teenager too so if you wanna talk about it just lemme know cause I totally understand how you feel.
Please stop counting calories. Eat 3 meals and at least 2 snacks. Eat enough fat and carbs and stop exercising. Your period is so important for your bone health, fertility and many more. I know it’s hard to recover from ED when your family thinks it’s normal. I had the same experience yet you should acknowledge that your health is priority and don’t wait for some help while damaging your body. Challenge yourself by eating fear foods one at a time and more frequently. Watch stephanie buttermore videos on all in journey and educate yourself
Hi, I just found your channel and it has been seriously what I need. Like you, I got really into fitness in college and lost some weight (around 20 lbs, but it was also because my diet had changed). I am only 5 feet tall, so that amount of weight is really high for me. I have not had a regular cycle in about a year now, and I am struggling to find someone who understands what its like to be a young college student already experiencing hormone issues. I absolutely love exercise and it's helped me a lot. I have to slow down, which is the hardest part. I hope that your channel can give me the strength I need to hopefully gain at least 10 pounds back. Thank you for this content, I really really needed it. Especially now.
hello. I haven't gotten my period for over a year now and lately i've been learning more about it and i can relate to a lot of the things that you said, even though I wasn't realising that i was actually restricting, not eating enough, stressing, being a perfectionist. It's a really weird experience and this kind of videos are really opening my eyes, thank you so much 💜 And i also have a question, because i haven't read anyone saying anything about it: Even though i havent gotten my period, throughout the year i have felt cramps and pains in my ovaries, stomach area and in my uterus (i went to a gynecologist and they checked me with an ultrasound and didn't saw anything wrong) so i'm curious if that has happened to someone else as well? And to anyone who is struggling right now: please don't lose your faith, even if it gets really hard always remember that you are learning so much about yourself rn, this is happening for a reason and it's going to lead you to a really beautiful place, where you feel like you belong and where you feel like you know yourself. We are in this together, it may sound cheesy, but it's true.At first i thought that i was totally alone in this and felt like such an outcast but now it turns out that there are so many people struggling with this kind of issues, so i hope that if you read this, you'll be able to see more clearly and most importantly remember that you are N O T alone and we are gonna get through this💜
Thank you so much for making these educational HA videos, they are so helpful! I struggled with anorexia from the age of 12 and because of that, I have never had a normal mensural cycle. I am now 18, no longer struggle with anorexia, am at a healthy bmi (around 21), yet I still do not have my period. I was on the birth control pill for about a year in a half, which my doctor recommended I go on so that not having a period would not affect my bone density. However, I decided to go off the pill a few months ago because I want to fix whatever hormonal issues I have and get a real period for the first time ever. It has been about 3 months now since I stopped taking it and, so far, I have no sign of getting a period. I am really hoping it will come back with time, but, if not, I know I am going to have to take other steps to get it. Although I weigh more than I ever have and am at a very healthy weight, I definitely exercise a ton and probably do not always eat enough to fuel all the energy I am burning (I have also been vegan for over 3 years and eat healthy most of the time, but definitely have a lot of treats). I was a distance runner for three years (just stopped in September when I got a stress fracture) and now I have switched to more weight lifting/strength training with less cardio, but still probably what a lot of people would consider a lot. I absolutely love working out and it is my favorite part of my day, so I really hope I don't have to stop, but I know that it is not healthy to not have a period. Anyway, that's where I am currently at and I am just trying to figure everything out, so thank you Amanda for sharing your story
I've lost my period for almost 3 months now and I think it's probably because of my eating habits. I never eat breakfast, I only sometimes have lunch because I forget a lot of the time, and at dinner my parents only give me small portions. I'm gonna try to eat more. I don't do any exercise but my parents always want me to.
14. Haven’t gotten my period last month or this month so far. Scared I might’ve lost it. I’m still trying to lose weight. Is this possible while still trying to get my period back?
Your situation same as mine..I tried to eat a lot and do a light exercise but still my period doesn't come..my stomach bloating and I got cramps around my stomach like people who got period but I dont have any period..
How y’all are you? I am 4:11 and I feel like the 2000 cal situation doesn’t really apply to me. I know I need to increase my calories but I am not sure if I should have 2000 cal a day.
Hi, loving your channel lately :D I just have quick question: I've been thinking I fall into the exercise category because I used to go running everyday for at least an hour which was on top of my weight training as well as being fairly active during the day so no doubt I lost my period but I just wanted to know: if someone was in the weight category, could they regain their period if they put on weight but the weight being mostly muscle? Or is fat extremely important? thanks :)
Where did you get 1500 calories as a BMR? I’ve used every single BMR & TDEE calculator out there and my BMR is around 1100 and my TDEE is around 1400-1500...
Hi Amanda! I can’t thank you enough for making these videos as I have lost my period again too. I thought I lost it due to quarantine and my whole exercise and daily routine being thrown off in general.. but it still hasn’t returned. Something feels very wrong internally. I have a question about how the loss of your period affects your mood? Is it common for this to result in mood swings and emotional problems? I am trying my best not to blame my horrible mood and emotions on the loss of my period but I really feel like all of this is affecting my ability to think positively. Hopefully this helps someone else out there too. Thank you!!
Hi! I love your video about how yoga changed your life can you tell me what type of plant you have in back on your left side I know one is snake plant but I wanted to know the other one’s name I really like it and want to buy it
I scrolled through your videos (newly subbed) and you seem to be struggling with HA for quite a period of time. Did you ever had it since you started the journey to recuperate it?
I don’t have HA but I’m currently eating around 1500-1800 and exercising 5-6 times a week. I don’t do intense exercise on all of these days. I’m afraid I’m going to mess up my metabolism but I feel like if I eat more I will gain too much weight. I am at a healthy weight. I don’t think it would bother me to gain a few pounds but it is still a fear but the fear of messing up my metabolism by eating too little is also there. I’ve seen a lot about reverse dieting and I’m curious about your thoughts on this. I want to increase my caloric intake but it is so scary to me and counting calories also gives me a lot of anxiety so I’m not sure how to go about eating the right amount. I guess I’m probably in the same situation as you when you developed HA but I don’t have it. Idk if any of what I said makes sense. I’m scared of eating too much and eating too little help lol. Edit: I forgot to mention I went through a like 4 month period about a year and a half ago where I was not trying (maybe subconsciously??) to restrict but I would get soo full on a very little amount of food. I could only eat about 800-1000 calories a day and I lost about 8-10 pounds very quickly without exercise. I was tired all the time but somehow still retained my period. I’m afraid this period of my life is what affected my metabolism and now I gain weight on very little amounts of food
I would HIGHLY recommend watching MissFitAndNerdy! She has a lot of videos about how to maintain a healthy metabolism while exercising :) I just discovered her channel a few weeks ago, and I've already learned so much!
I went through that exact same thing. For like 4 months a year and a half ago I also only ate 800-1000 calories and I lost 30 pounds. I feel like I literally wrote this comment myself. I did lose my period because of that time though. I'm currently all in to recover it. I would see an endocrinologist about your metabolism and they can run tests and see what's going on

Exercise will always be here!! Focus on your current health, now :) you got this love!
i lose my period whenever i decrease my fat intake so now i have to be careful about it!!
love how you are so aware!
Omg same!
hello. I haven't gotten my period for over a year now and lately i've been learning more about it and i can relate to a lot of the things that you said, even though I wasn't realising that i was actually restricting, not eating enough, stressing, being a perfectionist. It's a really weird experience and this kind of videos are really opening my eyes, thank you so much 💜 And i also have a question, because i haven't read anyone saying anything about it:
Even though i havent gotten my period, throughout the year i have felt cramps and pains in my ovaries, stomach area and in my uterus (i went to a gynecologist and they checked me with an ultrasound and didn't saw anything wrong) so i'm curious if that has happened to someone else as well?
And to anyone who is struggling right now:
please don't lose your faith, even if it gets really hard always remember that you are learning so much about yourself rn, this is happening for a reason and it's going to lead you to a really beautiful place, where you feel like you belong and where you feel like you know yourself.
Jenna Wilson exercise put your body under stress. Less exercise will help you get your period back
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and more information about HA. It’s been super helpful for me!
Yes, I was over exercising and no longer had my period.
So happy you've shared this video, it's going to help so many people :)
Did you get it back?
My periods are getting later in the month not in the middle of the week.? I'm feeling a little Bloated gassy and a little constipation.
How y’all are you? I am 4:11 and I feel like the 2000 cal situation doesn’t really apply to me. I know I need to increase my calories but I am not sure if I should have 2000 cal a day.
yeah same here...I think for us short people maintenance is around 1800 per day
Hi, loving your channel lately :D I just have quick question: I've been thinking I fall into the exercise category because I used to go running everyday for at least an hour which was on top of my weight training as well as being fairly active during the day so no doubt I lost my period but I just wanted to know: if someone was in the weight category, could they regain their period if they put on weight but the weight being mostly muscle? Or is fat extremely important? thanks :)
fat extremely important as well :)
Gaining muscle won't help at all because it just decreases your body fat %. You need to be gaining fat to regain your period, which means no lifting
im 13 and havent had my period iin 9 months because i was obsessed with how my body looked idk how to get it back
Get help sis ik it's hard but reach out to a school counsel
Where did you get 1500 calories as a BMR? I’ve used every single BMR & TDEE calculator out there and my BMR is around 1100 and my TDEE is around 1400-1500...
Everyone’s BMR is different but somewhere around 1300-1500 for many. I just used 1500 as a ball park
Thank you!!
Oh SUUUPER crazy for mood. Now that I’ve been going through it for these past months, I’ve noticed my mood and energy has changed dramatically
Any way of getting it back
Hello do you recommend intermittent fasting while recover?
Hi! I love your video about how yoga changed your life
can you tell me what type of plant you have in back on your left side I know one is snake plant but I wanted to know the other one’s name I really like it and want to buy it
I scrolled through your videos (newly subbed) and you seem to be struggling with HA for quite a period of time. Did you ever had it since you started the journey to recuperate it?
she did!
First time she lost it was due to ed and she got it back. Recently she lost it again
does masturbating stops your period? cuz it’s the case for me and after every month it becomes lighter until it’s almost gone
I would see an endocrinologist about your metabolism and they can run tests and see what's going on
I also recommend watching MissFitandNerdy on TH-cam! She uses scientific research to back up her claims and provides good info when reverse dieting
Is loosing periods that bad?
yes it is :) please see instagram.com/p/CQMkNgKLv5v/
Or an abusuve environment can cause stress
