This would be the EP that Machine Head recorded as "The Power-3-0" aka Rob Flynn (Guitars & Vocals), Adam Duce (Bass), Dave McClain (Drums) hoping to get signed to a record label after their old deal was completed. Including the radio-style song called "Pins and Needles", and an Electronic Press Kit for the companies, also hoping they can get signed on the strength of their previous efforts. Nearly every record label in the music industry rejected the four track demo. If memory serves me right, they went to work on the album on their own, which became "From Ashes To Empires" and only Roadrunner UK actually listened to it as the songs were perceived as being too long. Then after the European success of the album and tour, Roadrunner Worldwide took a second look and the rest is history. Have to say that this version of "Descend The Shades Of Night" is awesome.
I never knew that pins and needles was a part of the the 4 Track Demo EP.
I just knew that some labels wanted to have a radio single and that machine head has recorded a demo (pins and needles) for it.
But I thought they took the the decision to take the song out before they had started to send out demos to labels.
I always thought that my limted Edition from "Through The Ashes", which has a 4 Track Demo EP inside, was the demo back then ....

Wow, i didnt know that the instrumental of ¨Pins and Needles¨ where later part of ¨Army of the Sun ¨ in Roadrunner United (one of the best songs of that album)
Yeah, it was the "radio single" they ahould make, back then.
They talked about it on the documentary which was a part of the "elegies" dvd.
Ever since that DVD I spent years looking for Pins and Needles.

My god "army of the sun" infinitely better than "pins and needles"

Any A&R guy who passed up on this should now be living in the gutter. Although, maybe the struggles of this period forged Through the Ashes of Empires, so I wouldn't have had it any other way.

I heard pins and needles on elegies and I don't think Robb liked it it was a forced single from the labels and all that but I liked it it made me rethink disturbed and mudvayne and they're supposed sellout songs too here in 2022 with catharsis I hear a lot of this one song in that whole album idk if that's anywhere close to the margin but it's just what I think
