  • ALL people reach a crossroads in life,...some with loved ones,...some with the work they do,....& others with their passions. It often times forces people to make decisions that will alter their lives,...& in this case the course of METAL history. On May 25th, 2019, I had the distinct pleasure of sitting down with one of San Antonio's MOST revered & respected musicians; a man whose history in San Antonio metal runs deeper than anyone; a man who took his desire for drumming & the drive to succeed in music & carved his own path to success. This is the story of our prodigal son, Mr. Dave McClain! Now, in 2019 he has come full circle,...found peace (& happiness) again in his heart & is continuing to add to his journey's story. SO, in the hour long interview below you will see & hear Dave recount his story in 3 main parts: S.A. Slayer, Machine Head & Sacred Reich. With regards to the 'early days' Dave recounts the impact Joe Anthony (The Godfather) had on the scene, the Jarzombek brothers, how Donnie Van Stavern pushed him to be the best, how competitive the scene really was & how Jason McMaster almost became the singer for SA Slayer. Speaking on Machine Head I chose to keep it light & positive & thus, he shared how Robb Flynn's drive in the early days was inspiring, how 'Ashes Through the Empires' was a turning point in the band's career, how the band struggled to live up to the 'Burn My Eyes' release & how near the end the stress of it all caused much anxiety in his life. Looking to the here & now with Sacred Reich Dave discusses this long relationship with Phil Rind, the band's upcoming Metal Blade Records release, 'Awakening' & how they are working to get the band back on the map. Of course, there is much, much more, so grab a cold one & sit back & enjoy this HISTORICAL chat! I would like to send a special 'thank you' to my videographer, Thomas Casanova for ALWAYS coming thru in the clutch & doing a fabulous job,.....AND to Dave himself; there is hardly a more humble, modest man in heavy music that I have ever met in my 23 year career. You are what's best in people. His goodwill serves us ALL well & its my pleasure to deliver him to ALL our Followers around the world like never before. ~ El Mero Metal
